Her battle with the brothers sounded like the Plastic Ono Band
I really, really hated her *before *she made a big deal of being offended by Ne-Yo not being overwhelmed by her beauty. *Now *I want her to die in a fire.
I feel bad about OtherErin’s father, but not so much that I want to hear her sing again.
I like Angel, but Katrina kicked her ass all over that song.
Recap of last nights battle round.
I watched some last night switching back and forth with dancing stars. I’ll watch all this weeks The Voice later this week.
Team Red
As I pointed out above, Erin sounded like Yoko Ono whereas the Shields Brothers actually got better with a little bit of coaching. For me it was a no-brainer but I apparently forgot this wasn’t The Voice but rather The Vagina. No way is Cee-Lo going to be able to mold her.
Team Blake
I never liked Gwen’s voice and was shock when she was picked. I know that a lot of these shows have contestants that feel entitled because they worked hard at singing but when Gwen said how hard it was for her, I was like, “Yeah, no one else has ever worked hard to be a singer.” especially how Erin was missing the deathwatch on her dad just so she could compete. I’m glad Erin was the better singer just so Gwen gets booted.
Jermaine and Alyx. I had this one pegged before it started. Jermaine wins. My only question is why pick a song no one ever liked? Is Blake that out of touch?
Team Moron 5
Nathan, if you want to win a battle round, don’t miss your cue to start singing. That and don’t suck. As for Pip, I think my sister had a pair of pajamas growing up that matched your pants.
Katrina was better and looked like a cuter Susan Boyle. Angel was not that good and looked like a crackwhore that gives handjobs for meth.
Team Xtina
I honestly remember nothing about this duet. <yawns>
Thank you for those links. Her blind audition was amazing, but her battle round sucked. She just couldn’t connect. But seeing her in those reinforces my opinion it was a one-off on the song choice and she does have ability.
She sounds like a clown. She’s fully as bad as Lee, the shaggy haired guy who had unintelligible lyrics and didn’t know it. She looks ridiculous, and sounds worse. Cee Lo picked her because she is “unique”. Hint to the judges, unique =/= good. There has to be some good in there, too.
The guys did better and grew more than she did, and they overwhelmed her. She was too quiet and bizarre. Personally, I don’t think the guys had a shot of winning this show, so if they’re eliminated this round or next doesn’t really matter in the end, but they were hands down better than Erin, so it sucks they didn’t at least get that victory. Oh well, garage band rock will go on.
Jermaine was better than Alyx, but I was expecting Blake to pick her because she was coached by his wife. That seems to be his trend.
I’m not really a country fan, and normally would have gone the other way, but I thought Gwen did a better job than Erin. They did a great job, and blending the two styles worked for me. I love the song and it was a good match up and good mix. I was surprised Blake didn’t go with Gwen on style, but maybe the emotion of her dad colored his judgement.
Nathan did pretty good, but Pip was better. It was close.
Going in, I liked Angel over Katrina, but Katrina did the better job singing, better range and ability.
“No Air” is a strange song, there’s apparently something weird with the pacing of the song. The first two lines are on one rhythm, then the third line comes along with too many words for the beat or something. Happened in both singers’ sections, so it’s clearly something with the song. Made it hard for me to judge the song. I thought Jonathas was better, but Christina went with the female. Meh.
Finally got to see all of this weeks battle round.
Erin put Blake in an impossible position. She’s out there singing while her dad is dying? There was no way in the world Blake wouldn’t pick her. I really like Gwen’s voice but she had no chance at all under these circumstances. I think Gwen deserves another shot. I don’t know how it would work, but there was no way Blake could pick her. There should be rules against this sort of thing. It’s just not fair to lay something like this on the judges right before they have to make a life changing decision.
I strongly dislike Erin Martin. Her attitude and coachability sucks. Cee Lo put her against the one team that I knew she could beat. The Shields Brothers were such novices. I just don’t like Erin’s style of singing. Her voice was off key most of that song.
I was glad to see Jermaine Paul advance. I can’t help but wonder what’s been holding this guy back all these years? Why was he stuck as a background singer?
Pip is really good, but I see him doing musical theater. I can’t see Pip as a headliner.
Katrina is someone that will get stronger as the competition rolls along. She’s shifting back from office worker bee to singer. As she gains that confidence I see her making the finals.
Hmm, just noticed we got two Erins.
Just to be clear. Erin Martin is the scrawny black lady that performed in that ridiculously under dressed costume. Had loads of attitude and completely uncoachable. I loved Ne Yo’s comment.
Erin Willet is the heavyset white lady that lost her dad. I feel really bad for her. But, Blake shouldn’t have been told until after she performed against Gwen.
March 26th - first battle, James vs. Wade for Cee-Lo - never before has a song been oversung that much by so many. Jee-zus!
Oh my God - how on earth could Cee-Lo pick that over-singing, melodramatic, pitchy idiot? What the hell was he hearing? I heard someone desecrate a lovely song.
“True Colors” - James and Wade - I thought that Wade had a little more range and would have picked him, but I guess all of the judges liked James better.
“Love Song” - Mathai and Nichole - I didn’t really like either. I thought that Mathai’s voice was too high piched & wobbly and Nichole’s voice was too weak, but I thought she did a tiny bit of a fraction better than Mathai and I would have picked her instead of Mathai.
“Satisfaction” - Moses and The Line - I didn’t feel that they got an equal amount of time. I thought that Moses got more time and so was able to show off more of his talent than The Line, who I thought was equally as good. But I thought Moses did have slightly more attitude so I picked him and finally agreed with the deciding judge.
“Easy” - Karla and Orlando - I didn’t like either ones vocal style, but I thought that Karla had a stronger voice. I agreed with Christina that neither was dynamic enough.
“I’m Yours” - Naia and Jordan - I thought that Naia’s voice was too weak and breathy and that Jordan should have been chosen.
“Faithfully” - Tony and Justin - I didn’t really like either, but I guess Tony did a slightly better job. He had a little more range at any rate.
This was a strange night for me. Overall I thought the performances tonight were the weakest.
The best song was Faithfully with Justin and Tony. Justin reminds me of Joe Cocker and I really preferred his voice on Faithfully. But, Tony is the better, more versatile singer. Tony could easily win the Voice if Cee Lo can get him to sing with more emotion and feeling.
Easy like Sunday Morning has always been a big favorite of mine. I liked Orlando better, but Adam choose Karla.
I was very pissed at Christina for pairing a country act with hip hop. Why did Christina pick The Line if she was going to screw them over like this? Its a shame they weren’t given a decent chance.
I think Christina’s team is the weakest. Sera Hill and Jesse Campbell are the only two members on her team that I like.
I’ll predict now that I see Tony Vincent, Sera Hill, Tony Lucca and Katrina Parker in the final four. We’ll find out in a few weeks if I got any of the top four right.
Recap of the fourth battle round.
When Tony was singing directly to his pregnant wife in the stands, I thought “I don’t care how good the other guy is, there’s no way he’s losing this.”
Ugh - if Tony doesn’t get bounced soon, I don’t know how I’ll be able to watch any more - I hate his screechy, histrionic singing with a passion. Get him to sing with more emotion and passion? Maybe get him to sing with appropriate emotion and passion.
I don’t love Tony’s voice, and his Broadway was showing for serious. However, my biggest issue with him (with all apologies if he is actually experiencing any health problems) is that you can’t be that skinny AND bald. You have to pick one, or people are going to assume you’re in chemo.
Agreed on both of these.
The amount of time is an editing thing, they actually do longer performances that are edited for time. So they may have been a bit better balanced on time and lines. Moses had better flexibility and adaptability. Even though I’m not a big hip-hop/rap fan, he won to me.
Orlando wasn’t bad, Karla I liked her tone a bit better but she was weak voiced. She just wasn’t Bertha. Still I like she won.
She did better than Jordan, though he had the bigger challenge. That song was slanted in her favor, being right in her niche where Jordan is a country guy. She was better than I’ve seen her, which doesn’t mean I like her tone, but she was okay with it.
I thought their’s was the best pairing and best performance of the night. It was the most balanced. Tony came out, and was there with the notes and emotion, then Justin stepped in and was amazing as well. They both put it on the line. I gave Tony the edge on variability and range, but Justin sounded great.
His style is very Goth, and coupling gaunt, pale, and bald does come off as unwell.
While Blake said that they both had pitch problems, I think it’s funny that he said to Naia, “I heard you miss some notes there. Some of them weren’t there at all, it was just breath” but went with her anyway because of her “experience”.
I hope it was just nerves and she gets better in the live rounds.
Blake has a preference for girls with funny voices.
I don’t think The Line was screwed. They had to blend country with Moses and his hip-hop. Christina did a fair thing in taking a popular rock song and making both sides try to adapt it to their particular style. The music director has to be clever to blend styles for each. I just don’t feel The Line came through on their part.
Whereas Jordan I do feel was a bit screwed. He’s a country song, but that song was much more pop reggae, and didn’t have much of a country feel. He was really stepping across genre lines while Naia was right in her groove zone. She should have been better in her own wheelhouse, as it were.
As far as the next stage, I’m interested to see if Chris Mann can find a way to make his classical opera training transcend into pop music in an effective way. If he can find the right way to use it, he could pull off something original and creative, hitting those buttons the judges are harping on. He does have vocal ability. But I’m leery that he will be able to find that niche, and will get lost to the crowd by being too different. We’ll see.
From Team Adam, several have good strong ability
Tony Lucca, Kim Yarbrough, and Pip all are great. Katrina Parker is okay, but I’m not really rooting for her. Mathai is odd voiced and off pitch, and Karla Davis was too soft, though I think she’s fun.
Team Blake: Jordis Unga is pretty good (except her last song stunk), and Jermaine Paul is very good. Erin Willett was okay. RaeLynn, Charlotte Sometimes, and Naia Kete all have weird tonal things that annoy me.
Team Xtina: Chris Mann, Jesse Campbell, and Sera Hill all have very good ability. I kinda like Chris Mann, but expect Jesse or Sera to be her top pick. Moses is an odd fit for this show, and I don’t care for his wardrobe either. Lindsay Pavao has that odd voice thing, and Ashley De La Rosa is blanking out to me - she had issues with that horrible song, No Air.
Team Red (Green): Tony Vincent and Juliet Simms are the ones I like. Jamar wasn’t bad. Cheesa was not bad, but I thought Angie was better, and she didn’t really hit that high note she was supposed to. James Massone did okay, but Erin Marin is the squeaky voiced model chick with tall hair and no talent.
My faves: Tony Lucca, Jordis Unga, Chris Mann, Tony Vincent
Man, I am impressed you guys can keep them all straight.
I don’t think they were screwed on song choice, but I think they *were *kinda screwed on arrangement. I feel like Moses was given a much larger proportion of the song, ergo more opportunity to shine. I don’t have a problem with his win, but I can see why The Line was pissed (although that girl lost major points for showing it, learn some grace).
