The Walking Dead; 1.06 "TS-19" SEASON FINALE (open spoilers)

Or not.

Man that was a grim episode. I wound up having two nightmares about the end of the world after watching it.

At the same time, there was a lot of dumb too. If Jenner had decided it was best to let them all in, give them a comfortable 24 hours, then euthanize them, we would expect he would have played off the countdown clock as something innocuous, and no one would have realized what was coming. It makes no sense for a character who is not presented as an amoral bastard to deliberately terrorize everyone, even if he is planning on killing them all, because his motive is actually pretty benevolent given the situation. But of course that couldn’t happen because the show would be over, so we get him acting totally inconsistently because It’s In The Script.

I agree about the three leads being pretty unwatchable. Darryl is my favorite character, I think. He reminds me of the mayor from Jericho: it seems he’s meant to be a bad guy, coming up with reprehensible ideas, but actually he’s the most reasonable, practical person in many scenes. If they’d had him threaten to torture Jenner, rather than threatening to kill him, it would have sealed the deal.

I don’t know if I’ll tune in next season. I generally like zombie stuff, but the careening between stupidity and suicide-inducing bleakness is a real turnoff.

The Dahlonega and Helen areas might not be too bad either: mountains, unpolluted streams, lots of small farms that may have some livestock still alive, relatively sparsely populated (certainly compared to Atlanta), and probably lots of guns in the houses.

And those same gun owning farmers are the most likely to still be alive. The question is whether they’d welcome a bunch of able bodied workers or reject outsiders at all costs. The former scenario could turn out to be even worse than the latter. This is almost the exact same way feudalism in Europe started.

Actually there are a couple of KKK and Aryan compounds up there somewhere that probably have stockpiled food and ammo. Daryl would probably know where. The bad thing is that if they survived they’d probably put up a big fight rather than help, but the nice thing is that whether the Klan/Aryan members survived or not you wouldn’t fell bad shooting them in the head and taking their stuff.

Nope. But she was boring and whiney on Prison Break, and is boring and whiney here. That is one actress who definitely should be waitressing.

I think the actor playing Rick, Andrew Lincoln, is okay. He’s written as a Dudley Do-Right and there’s not really a lot for him to work with and still be in character. Maybe next season he’ll get more depth. I agree about Lori and Andrea, though (and Amy). Annoying as hell. The characters I enjoy the most are Dale and the guy who got infected that they left behind.

I was just going to chime in that, even though I’m loving the show, I find none of the characters particularly likable. But now that you mention the left-behind dude, yeah, he was good.

In truth, my favorite characters are the walkers.
mmm

“We don’t…rape…the LIVING!”

Was there some dynamic that I didn’t pick up on between T-Dog and Jacqui? Maybe something in the books that they didn’t elaborate on in the series? When she decided to stay and T-Dog was begging her to come with them, she kind of stroked his face like they had a history.

I really wanted to see Morgan show up in this episode. Out of all of the characters so far, it seems his is developed the best and is the most complex. Not bad for being in only 2 episodes.

Neither of those characters exist in the books.

Heh heh.

Why didn’t they suggest tapping into the fuel for the CDC FAE to power the generators? There had to have been barrels or tanks situated around the joint.

Because Jenner was suicidal and he though letting everyone else die along with him was an act of mercy. By the time he told them what the countdown and “decontamination” meant they were already locked in and it was too late to do anything. Also this episode was poorly written.

I had the impression they might be siblings or cousins. Probably there were deleted/unfilmed scenes to flesh them out better.

The wide shot of the explosion was one of the most underwhelming effects sequences in recent memory. I wonder if they spent a ton of money on it and then felt like they HAD to show it no matter how badly it sucked.

They should have talked to the Mythbusters guys - they have footage of what, a billion explosions by now?

Supposedly every zombie death on the show:

here.
