The Walking Dead; 2.09 "Triggerfinger" (open spoilers)

That was tense and scary, something this show should try to be more often.

I can’t get worked up about the insta-night “problem”. At all. Scary situations are scarier in the dark.

My biggest problem is with the idea that they’d try to amputate that kid’s leg in that situation. Fuck it, he’s gonna lose the leg anyway, you pull him off the fence as quickly as you can, get the hell out of there, and deal with it at the farm. That said, I had no problem at all with them NOT leaving him there. I also would have had no problem with a mercy bullet, they clearly went above and beyond, but good lord I will never understand why anyone thinks that it’s okay to leave someone to die screaming as zombie snacks. If there is ANYTHING that you can do to prevent that from happening to another human being, you do it, or you’ve stopped being human.

Also annoying; “I should have left with you when I had the chance.” Um… what’s stopping you now?

And if Hershel’s daughter is turning walker, she’s taking her sweet time about it.

Also, Hershel Walker. Heh. How is this the first time I thought of that?

At least the writers were smart enough to have Rick and Glenn take the guns from the men Rick had just killed. I was sure that option would be ignored.

As for the kid impaled on the fence, why didn’t they try shooting off the barb that topped the fence so they could more easily remove his leg? Dangerous and might not work but worth a shot…

Not without its flaws but probably the best episode I’ve seen of the show.

a) bullets are scarce
b) bullets bring zombies
c) you might wish you saved that bullet

Rick’s answer should have been what they did first - but I loved Glen continuing to ‘move’ the leg up and down torturing the injured.

Wouldn’t the kid that fell on the fence have passed out from the pain anyway?

I think that even with that much pain, that much *fear *is sufficient to keep a person conscious.

Nitpicking, but this is not correct. Herschel wanted to put a bullet in the kid from the minute they found him, Rick didn’t want to leave him. Glenn said, “Can’t we just take the leg off?” and then Rick asked if the hacksaw was still in the bar (or where ever). When the kid was impaled, Hersch DID say something like, “I don’t want to see any more killing, BUT this is torture” with the implication that they should put the kid out of his misery. He only agreed to stay and do the amputation when it appeared Rick wasn’t giving him an option.

BTW - Did anyone else expect to see a bite mark on Lori when she was taking her shirt off in the tent?

Expect? No. Hope? Most fervently.

Lori annoys the crap out of me, and I really, really want zombies to eat her.

Good and true but the zombies were already on their way due to previous gunfire and all the screaming. Glenn was already wasting ammunition by blasting away at the zombies with a shotgun (at a distance is a shotgun really all that effective?). And I think it would have been worth risking one bullet as opposed to taking the time to saw the leg off.

Same here. This wasn’t as good as last week’s episode, but it was still very good. I was on the edge of my seat for much of it.

Sure, there was some silliness, but overall I like it when their put in desperate situations have to do desperate things. Saving the kid on the gate was in character, but putting a bullet in his head would’ve been, too. The other guy was being eaten alive by Walkers, so it makes total sense to just let that go. I assume that once you’re actually bitten by a Walker, you’re toast.

Daryl is getting a little annoying, though. Whoever said he was a “grate ally” upthread just hit on a fantastic Freudian slip!

I don’t know what they are going to do with Lori when she starts showing, because no on that skinny can be pregnant. Well, I guess they could, but it sure don’t look right.

The other scene that bugged me was when Dale, Andrea, Shane, Carl, and Lori were sitting in the parlor, and Lori was confronting Shane about his lie. The others very politely left the room so those two could talk. They were treating them like you’d treat a couple who needed privacy to hash something out. I can see them doing that for Lori and Rick, but not for Lori and Shane. What Shane did affected all of them, not just Lori.

It’s also hard to fathom that they all just went to bed, apparently not worried about why Rick, Glenn, and Herschel hadn’t returned. Lori can’t wait an hour to look for Rick, but she’ll wait all night?

I can’t remember, but was the guy behind the bar shot in the head? Because if he wasn’t I think that officially settles the “Do non-bitten dead people come back from the dead?” issue.

We were shown 3 shots last episode - we heard 4 shots this episode - so, I’m thinking he was after the fact.

d)his screaming in pain & terror will distract zombies that otherwise would’ve noticed you.

I agree that the whole day/night thing was incredibly stupid and amaturish. Was this some kind of botched omage to Plan 9?

Shooting a 1" thick cast iron railing point blank with a handgun is likely to be
d) ineffective
e) extremely dangerous

That is to say the bullet would probably just shatter and richochete in an unpredictable direction.

Possibly. It would depend on what kind of choke he has on that shotgun.

And he could’ve been using slugs instead of shot.

I was a little shocked by the little house on the prairie at dusk shot.

I don’t get why they don’t have black-out blinds or some other light blocking covering over the windows. I would think that they wouldn’t want to advertise this house is full of live people by showing lights on and people moving around inside during dusk and darkness.

That, and I wonder at them wandering around outside by themselves in the dark. Do they really believe that the place is *that *safe? I mean, this isn’t Buffy, there’s no spell to prevent walkers from crossing the property line.

We were shown four shots last episode. The slim guy got one to the head, the fat guy got two in the chest and, after he was already down, one more to the head.

I don’t understand why they don’t just build a wall. The zombies aren’t that nimble, and they certainly aren’t smart enough to get a ladder.

That’s my biggest problem in general with this show. The zombies aren’t really that big of a threat, they move slow, are mindless and don’t have weapons. So in order to get in trouble the characters have to act like idiots in order to continuously get in situations where they’re totally surrounded by zombies.
