The Walking Dead; 4.08 "Too Far Gone" (open spoilers)

Lets just put an end to this debate right now.

For the most part, I thought it played out about exactly as I would expect it to play out. The Governor and his new band of idiots think they are invincible with their tank. They storm an unfamiliar armed fortress . Get whittled down one by one. The tank gets all bogged down in the maze of concrete and steel after wasting most of it’s ammo blowing holes in rocks. Some badass tosses a grenade or Molotov cocktail into an open hole in the tradition of 80 years of urban armored combat. So on and so forth.

Plus it’s a battle for Christ’s sake. You can’t expect that everyone is going to cross every “T” and dot every…lower case “j”.

Sometimes when I find myself taking the show too seriously, I remember it’s about zombies.

That was the mid-season finale, when we finally found Sofia. Farm-aggedon is a new term for the season finale, when Herschel’s farm was overrun.

That was an awesome episode.

Ah, I stand corrected, thank you. And with that I bow out of caring about TWD.

Finally caught up again.

First, I thought it was a good ep. Lots happened, and lots got resolved.

The Gov was nuts and had no intention of taking the prison. Well maybe if they went along with it all nice and no one on either side spoke to each other about any of it, but he didn’t expect or even want that. Herschel and Rick were about 3/4 the way towards convincing the Gov’s people to quit so he had to force the issue by cutting Herschel’s head off. I’ve also thought Herschel was a dead man for awhile, so I’m not sad really. The creepy part was Herschel’s head didn’t come right off like when Michonne does her thing. All mayhem and shooting but Gov had to follow Herschel as he crawled away and keep chopping and chopping chopping. Hershel personified everything good and decent and rational the Gov had rejected ages ago, and he had to utterly destroy it. Poor Herschel, it’s like he almost wanted to die, getting bitten and having his leg amputated by amateurs, healing from that and getting coughed right in the face by someone bleeding out. I thought for a moment he’d survive the neck would. “Damn it! I’m still alive!”

About Carol, I’ve said it before and I’ll bore you again: I think Carol is smart and strong enough she could have pithed the two patients, loaded them on a stretcher or something and disposed of the bodies a little better. Or, she could just do it, set them on fire and call for help. “Help, they died and turned into walkers and I barely escaped!” Instead they were dragged out leaving a clear trail to a nearby door. “No one will find them here!” That just seems more like the kind of thing a child might do. During the “previously on” segment at the beginning, they always show a body being dragged around a corner but no clue who it was. Then there was the disturbing way our taxidermist walker-whisperer crack shot lesbian killer was slowly swirling around all the blood and goo coming out of that patient.

It is funny how people who nonchalantly wave there gun off to the side and head shot three walkers, can’t hit the broadside of a prison wall except by accident.

I’ve read “Herschel was smiling before the gov beheaded him, what was up with that?” and I think Herschel was in a way looking forward to exiting that awful, mad world. I also think H’s death took some wind out of the sails of the governor being killed. That should have been the high point (because we’ve all been waiting for it for so long).

One thing I’m confused about - when Rick was investigating the murders, they made a point of him looking at the door frames - one had a bloody hand print fairly low to the ground, and I believe another had scratches that looked like fingernail scratches. Am I misremembering that?

If not, then how does that make any sense? Carol wouldn’t have dragged them out alive and then killed them, and in fact she said she killed them first if I recall.

I wonder if it will turn out that one or more of Carol’s children became unhinged by her constant training in weapons and walker-killing, and killed those two. Carol is covering it by claiming she did it, both to protect the kid and because it would expose the fact that her unauthorized training in violence had messed up at least one kid.

That would also explain the mutilated rodent - unhinged kid.

Hey, I posted the idea first!

Sorry! Didn’t see that.

Nah, he was proud that Rick “came back” and was willing to put aside the past and try to negotiate a merger with One Eyed Willie.

I think Hersh had come to terms with the new world and how he fit into it and wasn’t in a place where he welcomed an exit. Back after Barnageddon, maybe, when he first lost his leg maybe, but not there and then. Certainly not with his daughter watching.

You’re the first one in this tread to post it, and I agree with you.

I think theR was the first one to post that it wasn’t Carol and could have instead have been Lizzie here. This was back in the thread about the episode where Carol first confessed to Rick.

Thanks, Keweenaw. I stand corrected.
