The Walking Dead; 5.07 "Crossed" (open spoilers)

And where did he come from? Is he giving blowjobs to the guards as quid pro quo? Or maybe Dawn likes GILFs? That whole bit felt really ginned up to create some sort of tension.

Another “Meh” vote from me. I enjoyed seeing all the plots moving forward in one episode, but overall it was kind of a sleeper.

Just a thought : Will Gabriel run into Morgan??

There I disagree. The GREATM bits were by far the most interesting. But then it’s character stuff that interests me most, not action.

I must point out that Father Gabriel is an idiot. He went to a ridiculous amount of effort to sneak out of the church when it should have been obvious that neither Carl (charged with taking care of his baby sister) nor Michonne (charged with taking care of Carl) was going to follow him, and then left his weapon behind. If he simply wanted to commit suicide, I could suggest several better ways.

I was actively vexed at that idiot when he asked if Michonne et al were going to take the cross as well.

Dawn told Beth that because of Beth’s outburst, there was nothing Dawn could do to save Carol. But Beth could, so she gave Beth the keys.

The coughing ruse was required because Beth was not openly given permission to help Carol. The official word from Dawn was that Carol wasn’t worth spending any further resources on.

Oh, I cannot argue the man is an idiot. More so than the usual cast of characters who frequently take actions that for the most part don’t make much sense. I think randwell put it best with:

Except to me, this one seemed especially ridiculous.

Dawn gave her the key, but told her that she didn’t trust even her right hand man with it. Beth could not openly stroll up to the cabinet and grab what she needed to save Carol. That would expose Dawn’s complicity or force Dawn to put another beat down on Beth. Beth needed the older guy to create a distraction. I think she should have put more weight into the doctor’s statement about Dawn being not what she seems. He didn’t seem to like that she gave Beth the key to the medicine cabinet. Not that I particularly trust him either…

Beth’s makeup was particularly distracting in this episode. The cut on her cheek was like a mirror image of her eyebrow. It looked cartoony and weird.

Gabriel is just ten kinds of stupid. I get that he is weak. I understand why he is frightened by these people. But Carl flat out said that you can’t stay in one place for very long. They will be moving along. Gabriel is free to stay in his church after they go. I also have a hard time believing that he could pry those boards up so silently.

Sasha’s stupidity drives me crazy. I don’t understand why she trusted that guy. Don’t turn your back on a hostage. Ever. They should not have left her behind with a guy named Bob, Tyrese should have known better.

It’s all well and good that they are trying to get Carol and Beth out of Grady, but I don’t know how they can safely move Carol without endangering her further. Unless they grab the doc as well. It will not be a straight up hostage swap. There is going to be a bloodbath.

Every week, I think they can’t make Daryl any more badass, but then he bowling balls a zombie head into a weapon. They need to stop. He is sufficiently awesome, they don’t need to endlessly up the ante.

They seem to have invested a bit in the doctor and Dawn, I wonder if one or both of them will end up with our band of misfits after whatever dustup happens next week.

But entirely in keeping with Gabriel’s character. The only problem with the scene is that he survived.

I don’t mind Sasha’s lapse with New!Bob much either. She’s grieving and a bit irrational, and he managed (by accident) to push her buttons in exactly the right way to make her make that mistake. She’s got feelings, and I don’t want a cast of Vulcans.

No reason to think it was especially silent. Even newly emotionally healthy Michonne is pragmatic to hear the ruckus, figure it out, and say, “He wants to sneak out? Fine. Who gives a fuck?”

(Just to be clear, I have no knowledge of this show other than what is shown on AMC’s Walking Dead and Talking Dead and, of course, this Straight Dead Message Board. I’m only speculating on what might be possible.)

When I saw Dawn give Beth the keys to the drug cabinet, given Dawn’s paranoid behavior, I thought this could be a test. That Dawn wanted to see who Beth would interact with in order to steal medical supplies, which of the guards she could fool, and how she did it. Strawberry Santa dude could end up on Dawn’s “hit” list and the three guards who were distracted by his phony choking could get a stern talking to. Or beating.

Gabriel is in shock. Severe emotional stress. Nothing he does makes any sense. When members of Rick’s group lost it, there was usually someone there to help them thru the bad times. Gabriel has been on his own, a result of his own actions, but still alone. No one needs to tear up floor boards when they could have just walked out the front door and kept going??? Stepping on a nail leads to infection, tetanus, slowed escape response time, fever, and is a sure fire way to become walker chow.

Abe needs a mission in life. Give him a new mission and he’s good for another 1000 miles. Or another season of shows.

I still want to see Gabriel and Eugene fight the zombies gladiator style. I have some sympathy for Eugene but none for Gabriel as he’s not only a coward but one who has already proven he’ll let people die rather than endanger himself in the slightest/ They need to let him keep going; I hope it’s not al l a setup to for a “Coward of the County” redemptive act of self sacrificing bravery. Eugene might be worth keeping if he’ll learn to fight- if he doesn’t then give him some pecans and a road map.

Why did the walkers outside of the hospital look so different? I must have missed something; they were a lot “juicier” than most.

Agree. Give him a mission, aim him and shoot. He’ll git 'er done.

I do hope they’re not setting Gabriel up for a self sacrificing redemptive act of bravery; that would be lazy writing.

According to Talking Dead they had been napalmed in an aerial attack witnessed by some of the characters back in Season Two.

Who cares where he came from (there’s clearly other patients there), where are they suddenly getting fresh produce from?

Rooftop gardens, I believe. They’ve got a fairly good setup.

I think you’re right, I forgot about that.

What about a self-sacrificing act of bravery that ends up as an epic fail?

That might be nice. Particularly if it sets the trees on fire and makes them finally get out of the damned Georgia woods.

Yes, and writes out Gabe!

Aside from the Washington fiasco, have they been trying to get somewhere, or just find a relatively safe place, like the prison?

Eugene’s worth keeping around. He lacks physical confidence, but before his beatdown he was beginning to address that, and of course he knows useful things; it was he who taught Rosita how to purify dirty water, for instance. And Tara, Rosita, Maggie, and possibly Glenn like him enough to forgive him and are moral enough not to give him a death sentence. I think he can learn. And since zombies are only dangerous in packs and when they get the drop on him, he’s not so bad as to merit abandoning. If Herschel were alive and on the road he’d be a liability, but they’d keep him along even if Maggie, Beth, & Michonne didn’t love him.

But Father Gabriel is contemptible. He deserves to be exiled much, much more than Carol ever did.
