Rick went towards the RV with the intent to drive it down the road where the back half of the herd (the front half was not distracted by the horn) of walkers would come out of the woods, and use it to lead them down the road away from Alexandria. You can see at the end, that’s where he ended up, but some stray Wolves attacked him in the RV. After he killed the Wolves, he tried to start up the RV as the herd approached, but it wouldn’t start. Final shot of the herd coming out of the woods and surrounding the stalled RV, so Rick has no means of leading the herd away. So half the herd is now heading straight for Alexandria, and Rick is trapped in the RV.

Glen, Michonne, Nicholas and the rest of the crew were to head back towards Alexandria through the woods, but it took them a long time because two of them were injured: Annie had a twisted ankle and the other guy was accidentally shot in the leg by “bucket hat” dude, so they detoured into that small town because Nicholas had been there before on a supply run.
it makes no sense that they weren’t already ripping at and eating his fase, since it was exposed and moving. There is no reason that they would stop.
Yet, Glenn lives!
I know nothing of cars, but I didn’t know an automatic “can’t be pop-started”! I had no idea.
Only a manual can be started? In that case, in a world where the majority of cars are automatics, NO, the characters can’t just bust open the ignition and start the cars up for a smooth clean getaway, could they now??
One must always keep this in mind wrt to this show.
To add on to what everyone else said, Morgan heading back to Alexandria before the horn went off. He was going back to let everyone know they had to start the plan a day early. That’s why he got back before everyone else.
Party dip. Oh my god. I actually LOL’d.
I believe that an automatic transmission will push start at 50 or 60 MPH.
I know I’m putting this is the wrong episode thread but I just had to share. A friend of mine said that for the great “zombie drive” they should have used an ice cream truck. Because nothing could be funnier than a thousand zombies following a truck playing a canned version of the theme from “The Sting”.
I believe that Turkey in the Straw is the traditional tune, with an occasional creepy, “Hello!”
I saw a billboard for a “Zombie paintball” hunt. :dubious:
Regarding Rick’s hand, there’s an interview that I read on my phone where they addressed this with the Greg Nicotero, the executive producer. Here’s what the question and answer were:
Question:
Some viewers were confused about Rick’s hand injury, about whether he cut himself or was bitten. I thought he cut himself. Can you confirm that?
Answer:
Yeah, when he comes upon the walkers on the street, there’s one walker that had a machete buried into his shoulder. He stabs the first walker, and breaks the handle off of the knife. That second walker attacks him, and when it lunges at him, he puts his and up and his hand gets cut from making contact with the machete that’s sticking out of the walker’s shoulder. So he didn’t get a bit, he got cut on the machete. I think it ends up happening so quickly that it was , I think for some people it was a little bit hard to follow, only because it was just over before it started.
Somebody call me when Rick, the wellspring of stupid, is dead, then I might start watching again.
I personally agree. I can think of LOTS of things that would be hilarious during the Zombie Apocalypse. But I don’t think Robert Kirkman would give the okay on that.
One of the only things that made one particular zombie novel I can think of worth reading was when one character spotted a zombie wearing a hand lettered T shirt that said IF YOU CAN READ THIS PLEASE KILL ME. I’m a bad person, but I thought that was funny.
And I also don’t think they’re ready to devote any of the budget to digitally erasing Andrew Lincoln’s hand for the rest of the series.
Why not do it the way that Merle’s was? With the cap at the end?
Yes, we’ll be sure to do that. Stay near the phone just in case!
Comic
Spoiler
Did the Governor cut Rick’s hand off in the comic?
Yep.
Pop starting is used to start a manual with a dead battery or starter motor…
Push in the clutch pedal, put the transmission in first
Get the car rolling forward to about 5-10 MPH minimum
Release the clutch pedal
If you’re going fast enough, the engine will start.
No, no, no. It’s a zombie parade, everyone knows that!
They just need some elephants and so forth to make it fun. Maybe a Zombie Queen and her court.
They already had decorative balloons on the RV.
I’ll suggest Enid as the Zombie Queen. (cue the calliope music)
On reflection, Glenn surviving in some contrived and arbitrary way wouldn’t be a deal-breaker for me because the way he was endangered was so contrived and arbitrary in the first place.
