Btw, I’m not arguing that TWD has amazing writing, or that they are never inconsistent, but just that the Glen surviving thing is not really a very good example of that because it is perfectly in character for Glen to have gotten out of that situation, that’s all.
As for the writing in general, well its a zombie show based on a comic book, so I like to keep my expectations realistic based on what I’m watching.
My problem with that scene is not that Glen found found the hiding place. It’s that he wasn’t consumed or seriously bitten before he found the hiding place.
If it was a matter of Glen falling, the walkers are coming fast, and Glen makes his way under the Dumpster, I’d totally buy that. But they showed Glen on his back, engulfed by a pack of walkers, and him lying there long enough for a nice scene of him screaming while Nicholas’ entrails were pulled out Braveheart-style.
For him to escape, I have to believe that Glen was lying on the ground for some time with walkers all over him and Nicholas, yet for some reason not a single walker bit Glen or tried to pull his leg off, etc. Somehow, just having Nicholas lying on his chest protected Glen from any deadly contact with the walkers that were all over them. The walkers don’t like Glen’s legs? They only want white meat?
I dunno, I’m coming around on that scene. The front row of zombies are all going for Nicholas’ tasty intestines - given the choice between that and Glen’s scrawny, covered legs, it’s an easy choice. That first row is bent over, so the zombies behind them can’t push through enough to get a good bite in.
Yeah, it’s a bit of a fan-wank, but I can suspend disbelief enough to accept it.
That’s actually a good point we haven’t considered yet. Perhaps the walkers are gourmands, and Asian meat simply doesn’t have the same “zest” as other meats. I mean, have we ever seen them eating an Asian on the show?
The church has been shown to be in disrepair and it got some serious, recent knocks, but I got the impression that it was the constant, growing pressure of zombies that finally tore it down. I thought that was why Rick and Nameless Man started reinforcing the wall at that spot, to make it hold up a little longer. But maybe I misinterpreted it. I didn’t pay that much attention, as I think it’s getting pretty ridiculous at this point.
Generally speaking, credits aren’t linear in terms of prestige. First is best, yes, but last is also considered a prominent position. Especially if there’s an “And” right before the name.
Not sure if that rule applies to tv shows, or it’s just a movies thing. If not, then I agree with you that Carol should be just above or below Glenn.
Yeah, like The Big Valley had Miss Barbara Stanwick at the end. The key being, at the end. The credits roll quite a bit after what I noted, putting Carol in the middle, not the end.
I know it’s all about whose agent can negotiate the best slot, but maybe Carol needs a better agent.
I just assumed that they carried off any Asians before eating them. Even in death Asian carryout is popular. Of course, you eat some Asians and in a few hours your hungry again.
I’m wondering if Daryl, Abe, and Sasha will survive their encounter with Negan’s bikers, or in Negan’s society. If Negan now owns the truck, the fuel, the weapons, and everything in the glovebox, I assume they (writers and bikers) assume that Daryl, Abe, and Sasha also belong to Negan. Will there be another miraculous escape, a rescue, or will there be another - da da da daaaaaaa - death of one or more core characters?
Finally got around to this episode and the DVR. Thought it, like most of the rest of this season, underwhelmed. Hey guys, I just remembered that if we smear zombie guts on ourselves, we’ll be invisible to them. Ok, so there was that. Also, why does the whole group have to leave? Rick just said they have enough supplies to last a while. Mom and kids could have stayed in that house. Rick’s first plan wasn’t terrible, go get a car and drive enough of them away to safely rebuild the town.
Now that’s a good point. They need to get one or more fighters/thinkers out, and the rest can hide a while. They don’t need to be taking a mouthy brat through a crowd of walkers…
Corl and what’s his name jealous teen had a fight in the garage which resulted in zombies breaking into the house. So that bunch don’t necessarily have to leave Alexandria, but they’ve got to get out of that house. All of them, unless some want to barricade themselves behind a flimsy bedroom door or something. That entails going through a crowd of walkers. And going to the armory to get some extra guns and things makes sense as a destination, as long as you’re out and about anyway.
Meh, maybe mouthy kid would make too much noise even to hide behind a flimsy bedroom door. Best dispense with the door and get him right in among the walkers without even flimsy protection, eh?
ETA: I’ve been watching some old eps on Netflix. I don’t know who started that ‘Corl!’ thing, but damn, Rick can’t seem to stop shouting it. “Corl! Cooorrll!”
