The Walking Dead; 6.12 "Not Tomorrow Yet" (open spoilers)

Rick: We have to fight them over there so we don’t have to fight them here!

Take the motorcycle guy prisoner and hope to make a trade.

Four minutes in:

“What is it?”
“It’s a building with a steeple. But that’s not important right now.”

I said that exact same thing, Bryan

I was thinking that she just might do that, as well.

Everybody’s been loving Abe’s weird non-sequiturs, but I have to say “Same reason dingleberries 'r brown! That’s just the way shit is!” was just a little too absurd and childish.

But I know that I will one day say it, and it will be glorious.

The writers really ran afoul of Wheaton’s Law when they were writing Abe Ford’s break up speech. Sasha won’t want him when she hears how he broke up and Rosita won’t take him back. Maybe the writers were writing from extremely personal experiences? However, Rosita did seem to be back to her ol’ self the next day while she and Carol were discussing Morgan and Denise helping the Wolf.

Rick’s group needed a better plan, and more surveilance, before physically attacking Negan’s group. If you can’t get them all, don’t attack yet. You know they have firearms but how many and how big? Machineguns? RPG’s? 105mm? 120mm? Flame throwers? Armorer vehicles? Do they have radios and what is the range of the transmitters?

Should Rick’s group attack Negan’s group? That answer is yes. Negan’s group had three strikes against them. First, there was the info Daryl recieved during his run-in with the run-a-ways who eventually stole his scooter. They didn’t paint a glowing description of the group they had fled from. Second, Negan’s bikers didn’t leave the impression that Negan and Co. were open to friendly persuation. Third, the Hilltop crew haven’t had anything nice to say about Negan, his henchmen, or his methods. And Negan/Negan’s group tried to force Hilltoppers into killing the Hilltop boss. Fourth, one of Negan’s henchmen kept pictures (they have cameras?) of slaughtered bodies on the wall next to his bed. This was discovered after the decision to attack had been made but it does suggests, again, that Negan’s group doesn’t care who they kill, or why.

Preggers Maggie should not have been going along on this assault. Defending Alexandria is one thing. Seal Team 6 operations don’t require Maggie’s I’m-killing-for-2-now heroics. It seems that the drama between Carol and Maggie was required to allow some of Negan’s henchmen to escape (out the back door?), capture Carol and Maggie, and create more drama for next weeks episode. That’s just good TV.

And Morgan’s welding? He might be building a cage similar to the cage the Cheesemaker had built? Morgan still needs to believe, really believe, that the Cheesemaker was right about everything or Morgan might lose his mind again.

How can one lose something that is already lost?

Yeah, I agree. Maggie is still fully capable. Carol’s need to be the mother was the problem.

I think that episode was not bad, all things concidering.

They really need to find a supply of grenades, if they are going to do any more sneaking around commando raids.

Not sure what Morgan was welding, but without a cup on that mig gun, its not going to be very good.

I think Carol is going over to the Darkside, her response to Rosita regarding Morgans dissent in the church, was not Carolish.

Declan

I fear that the budding romance between Carol and Tobin (?) does not augur well for at least one of them.

You have more control of a situation if you first choose the battlefield, and then make them come to you. And don’t get into a situation where the bad guys can follow you home, if that’s at all possible.

How many fighters can Negan afford to lose before this becomes an all out war or Negan moves away? Is it a Governor-like “all of them”? Ellis Dee mentioned a body count of 21 at the outpost. Sasha and Ford had killed several after they had been ambushed on Take Your Walker To Someone Else’s Work Place day. And Daryl blowed up 8 bikers with the RPG. That’s over 30 dead.

A group that started with 50 fighters might move on. A group with 500 fighters might decide to get even.

I assume that the Hilltoppers, and Rick’s group, believed this to be Negan’s only compound. As it turns out, this was only an outpost. Oops.

Yeah, the huge success they had on this operation leads me to believe their numbers are much much greater than Rick thinks.

Spring is in the air
Blood is everywhere
Yadda, yadda, yadda.
Look at the flowers.

(OK, it needs work  )

The main characters are starting to hook up. Why not Carol and Tobin. And what about ol’ one-eyed Carl?

Just got around to watching it, loved this ep. - it’s the best one they’ve had in a while. Really liked this song and the tone it set in the closing sequence:

Arsonist’s Lullaby - Hozier

I’ve read the thread but had a few questions I haven’t seen touched on yet:

  • Was there significance to the wall of Polaroids of smashed-in heads? It seemed like kind of a trophy case and a gorier analogue to Carol’s kill-count diary that we see her tallying up.

  • We haven’t seen Negan yet and there was this deliberate mystery about his identity right before the incident with motorcycle guy and the woman’s voice on the walkie. I know in the comics it’s a male character, but I got the distinct impression this woman is going to be Negan. The comics certainly aren’t canon for the show and we’ve seen plenty of deviation already. Anyone else think Negan is going to turn out to be this chick?

  • Abe and Tara both said they were leaving and not coming back after the raid. Where are they planning on going?

  1. the Polaroid pictures were, according to what I’ve read, pictures post Negan and Lucille. People that he’d beaten to death.

  2. all the articles and imdb.com list actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan as playing Negan. If Negan is female, it’s not just the audience getting screwed with.

Good point!

There have been pictures of the Negan actor released, and he is a guy.

Hm, well she clearly came across as a leader-type. Too bad, that would have been a great twist that nobody expected.

I could see her as a high lieutenant/second in command/mini boss before the Big Bad
