The Walking Dead; 6.14 "Twice as Far" (open spoilers)

It always amuses me when people on this website explain about biting through denim, how a crossbow works or why the people on this show are so stupid.
It’s a TV show based on a comic book !
If this show ended tomorrow, the writers would be writing for a cop show or western or whatever. Just because they write for a TV show doesn’t mean they know anything else about the world, and it shows.
I think that this would still be an interesting show if the people had more than one brain between them and used a little common sense or, at least, learn something from their experiences.

How about this piece of stupidity? The characters have automatic weapons that they routinely use in ‘rock & roll mode’ – i.e., automatic mode. In this episode, Eugene points out that ammunition is like gold. In one or two previous episodes, the characters were low on ammo. And yet they blast away at 600 rounds per minute. It makes no sense in most of the situations they’ve used them. Single shots save ammunition and yield better results. (I’ll allow for running Bad Guys, but still…)

And where did they get the automatic weapons anyway? Rick had some from the Sheriff’s Department armoury, but I think most LEOs only have semi-automatic versions. Some can be picked up from dead military personnel. But there sure seems to be a lot of machine guns in Georgia. Did every gun nut illegally modify his or her AK-style rifle?

The answer to this question is obviously “Yes”.

If I remember correctly Rick got a lot of them from Morgan. Morgan had gone back and looted the rest of the police station. When Rick and Michonne (sp?) came upon the broken Morgan they took a sack full of guns and ammo.

Yes, I mentioned the Sheriff’s station. Still, I think most stations do not have automatic rifles.

In the ZA, I don’t think anyone will be particularly worried about the feds coming to get you for dropping an auto sear into a semi-automatic weapon to make it fully automatic.

It’s not a matter of the feds coming to get you. It’s that most police and sheriff’s offices just don’t have them. It’s trivially easy to modify an AR-15 into an M-16 if you can get the parts and can machine an auto-sear. But after the ZA you’re not going to be able to find the parts. (Unless you scavenge military weapons, in which case you’d just use the military rifle.) I don’t know how difficult it is to modify an AK to selective-fire, but I’ve seen the procedures for a Mini-14 and it requires some machining.

Or just get a bunch of Canadian C7s.

Poetic license does wonders for the armory.

I want a scene where Carol tells a guy: “You know when I said I wasn’t able to kill any more?”

Guy: [desperate, nervous] Yeah! Yeah! I remember!

Carol: I lied. [drops him off a cliff into a valley of zombies covered in razor blades]

Seriously, if anyone doesn’t think Wolf Carol was the most awesome thing about this show, then I just don’t know WHAT to say.

I think Carol will be captured by Negan and company, and take him out.

Well, probably not a Western. I don’t think anybody but me and maybe Oakminster misses those.

My guess is shes the next to die, as in she gets captured and they drag her up to the gates and off her to show they mean business.

as for the biting a dick through denim, not all denim is equal and I would love to see which of you wants to volunteer your dick for the mythbusters ZA edition.

TV speculation/comics spoiler ahead:

Given that they transferred Abraham’s manner of death to Denise, and teased us with Glenn and the baseball bat, I would not be surprised if Carol’s head ends up on a pike the way Comics!Rosita’s dead, or get her head smashed in by Negan a la Glenn.

Meh. I don’t mind if the characters are stupid. First you have to accept that there is a zombie apocalypse, which is kind of stupid. Well, ok, but the horror wears off after awhile (unless you throw in a dead baby or something once in awhile), the characters themselves regard zombies as old hat treat them cavalierly.

To keep up the thrill of the first season, surprises and new broken rules are needed. Characters who are stupid in a wholly novel way? Indecorous, but relatable to pretty much everyone. Man vs. Moron is perhaps the most veracious of (post?) modern literary forms, so durable it can be stretched to the limits of imagination in the 6th season of a ZA series and we are all still watching it.

Eugene’s big scene seemed like his nerdy, semi-failed attempt at badassery-imitation of Cock Puncher: Cock Muncher! I’ll be surprised if he pulls that move twice, though.

Carol is my favorite character in the show, but if she’s stupid enough to purposely wander around, alone, in the ZA, then it’s time for her to go.

She did alright when Rick kicked her out.

  • You don’t need to bite through the denim to cause pain. If someone grabbed a man there and gripped down, ythey’d be in pain, no doubt.

  • As for all the automatic weapons, I seem to recall Alexandria already having a fully stocked armory when Rick and Co. arrived. Heath and several others were going out on runs, but they didn’t have to use much ammo against walkers because 90% of the ones in the area had fallen into the quarry.

-Denise was also a psychology major IIRC. This is why she went out - she had to prove to herself she could do it, and then she’d be able to tell Tara that she loved her too. I’d feel pretty safe my first time out if I had Daryl and Rosita with me.

-They never did explain why Daryl was leery of taking the tracks at first, but once Rosita took them alone, he was assured there was no risk in taking them on the way back.

She was a psychiatrist (an MD).

Adam is ready!
