The Walking Dead; 6.14 "Twice as Far" (open spoilers)

This reminds me of the complaints about The Dark Knight Rises. How did Bruce Wayne get back to Gotham? Who cares? There’s no reason to show anyone going back to pick up the doctor’s body.

Eh, I suppose. Although they are taking a risk by making a run just for that purpose. You could make the argument for showing it to be that it would emphasize the importance they are placing on keeping burial rituals alive, and burying her within Alexandria. Which they are sorta doing by showing them burying her at all; it was just weird that her body materialized there when they wouldn’t have had a way to take it with them.

They’d been walking along the train tracks for an unspecified length of time. There’s no reason to believe they were far from where they’d left the truck. Also no reason to assume that Abe didn’t also have transport nearby.

YES this was another problem of the highest order of stupid. I don’t care how many bullets you’ve fired off in the zombie apocalypse, it is going to be far easier to FIND more ammo than it is to manufacture new ammo. The military and police forces keep an absurd amount of ammo on hand. There should be plenty of places to resupply. “Bullets are the new currency”? No, FOOD is the currency. But I guess that’s not as exciting.

Getting tougher to watch. Just an endless series of stupid, nonsensical decisions by people who by now should know better.

When the william tell moment happened, I just kept thinking…

“She’s monologuing! Watch the tree line! WATCH THE TREE LINE!”

I looked @ simwife and said ‘she;s giving the death speech’.

Originally, I wanted to like the doctor. But after her stupidity in that episode, I was glad to see her gone. Survivsl of the fittest, doc. Do they not teach that in biology class?

So freaking stupid. More than the usual stupid. After cancelling cable, this is the only show that I actively purchase and that is not going to happen next season.

It’s absurd that in the south this is the first time that anyone has thought about reloading ammo. You can’t bite a dick through jeans. The doctor was asking to be killed. You don’t split the group because of pride. You don’t take newbies on zombie journeys. You don’t grab the cooler in a zombie car before clearing the threat. You don’t walk two side by side with the newbie trailing 20 feet behind. When standing guard in the tower, you don’t stand upright fully above the wall presenting as large a target as possible. Sasha doesn’t miss from less than 50 feet with a rifle and cover position against people with no cover. Carol is stupid now. Daryl doesn’t know how to drive a stick shift - yeah fucking right that’s bullshit. Carol’s holster doesn’t even cover the trigger of her pistol. Abe and Eugene talk like comic book store Simpson’s poor parodies.

I actively want characters to die and when they do, like the doctor, rather than feel bad, I think, finally! The show seems to be trying for some kind of artistic message that they handle like they are using potatoes to write and it comes across as poor characterization and a complete lack of dramatic tension.

Uggh and I really really want to like this show.

I still contend that you could, at least enough to cause a pain reaction. Try putting some kind of spring-loaded metal clamp on your dick over jeans (without underwear though, who has time for that in the ZA?) and see if you feel it.

Mythbusters retired just a bit too soon. This coulda been their magnum opus.

To paraphrase Capt. Jack Sparrow, “But why is the Carol gone”? What demons or non-ringing phones are running thru her mind? Does she have a bad case of Morgan-itis?

Can anyone stop Daryl from looking for Carol?

In this episode, Doc Denise and Eugene wanted to step up their game. Other people are defending the residents of Alexandria and they want to play a bigger role. Carol’s boyfriend, and the former Mayor’s son (Tara’s friend w/(boring)benefits) seem to be OK with staying safe and close to home.

Ford and Eugene had a very entertaining conversation during their walk in the alley. I wonder who writes for them? (Jase Robertson and Uncle Si from Duck Dynasty? hehehe)

Ford - Guard duty, weapons training, changin’ up the hairstyle, swiggin’ some swagger with the ladies, spittin’ game.
Eugene - If you don’t spit game, you are game.
F - Man seems to be changin’. At least tryin’ like hell to. Makes me curious… what… that’s… about?
E - It’s simple really. As with any RPG, tabletop, electronic, or otherwise, a key to survival is allowin’ ones self to be shaped by the assigned environment. And doin’ so, a broad range of capabilities are aquried allowin’ one to flip the script and use said capabilities to shape said environment for maximum longevity. I’m sayin’ I’m in the proccess of said stage two. I’ve changed, adapted. I’m a survivor.
F - Keep tellin’ yourself that.
E - I’ve changed, adapted. I’ve become a survivor.

Doc Denise never had the time to adapt to a full-time, eyes-in-the-back-of-your-head, 360 degree danger-zone mentality. She never saw the truly horrible things that are a fact of life outside Alexandria. But she was willing to learn and was learning. She never had time to learn that yelling about a cooler draws bad guys and walkers.

Unfortunately for Doc Denise, Dwayne hadn’t adjusted to the “kick” of a crossbow, yet. (Crossbows and bows leap/recoil forward, away from the archer.) Dwayne missed Daryl (the only one present who would tell everyone what really happened the last time these two met) and hit Doc Denise. At least the Hilltoppers still have a doctor.

Eugene demonstrated a situational awareness that he didn’t use to run away. Eugene created a diversion by alerting both the Saviors, and the good guys, that they weren’t alone. While Ford had been behind the barrels, he began firing from his new position in the woods. Ford wasn’t where Eugene had told the Saviors he was. I assume Daryl and Rosita would have continuously been looking for a way to take control of the situation. Eugene responded the same way Rick did with the Claimers. Bite something and hold on. Rick chose to bite the lead Claimer’s neck. Eugene would have needed teamwork/assistance from Daryl or Rosita to kill Dwayne. When I nod my head, you hit it.

Eugene’s biting diversion was all Daryl and Rosita needed to rearm themselves and take the fight to the Saviors. Unfortunately, some of the Saviors (5 of 9?) escaped.

And we brought the good eye back for Carl.

(What? Too soon?)

He was holding a pistol I think. Dude bites my dick I’m shooting him in the head. Not stand there for 30 seconds screaming.

And here’s the thing about splitting the 3 of them on the way to the store - it was totally pointless. Not pointless from a plot perspective, pointless from a writing perspective. If they stayed together and walked to the store not taking the tracks, the rest of the show could have remained unchanged except for a few words of dialogue. The writers make the characters do stupid shit like that for no purpose, no tension, no character, nothing. Just stupid for the sake of being stupid. It wasn’t even good filler because it took no time.

Bows do not ‘leap forward’ from the archer when an arrow is released. If you shoot a bow with a relaxed/open grip, after the arrow leaves the bow will just fall from your hand. Watch an Olympic archer.

Why does Denise’s girth matter?

At any rate, they made more than one trip. We don’t need to see every single detail. We never see any of the characters on the crapper, but that doesn’t mean everybody has been holding it since civilization fell.

I have. I’m also an archer.

My point was that a bow/crossbow recoil away from the archer when fired, which is different than the felt recoil experienced when shooting a firearm. The bow’s limbs move forward, the string moves forward, the arrow/bolt moves forward. The bow’s momentum is away from the archer. Something must prevent the bow from leaving the archer’s hand.

Target archers can chose to keep one finger on the back of bow’s grip, or may opt for a finger sling or wrist strap to help prevent the bow from jumping (leaping) out of the archers hand when they loose an arrow. Light poundage target bows would recoil/jump/leap less than a heavy poundage hunting bow.
Notice the black strap (finger sling) between the archers thumb and forefinger and the two finger tips resting on the back of the bow.

Notice the grey finger sling, and that the archer has no fingers on the back of the bow.

Parts of a Recurve Bow

http://www.archery.org.au/FAQs/Equipment/What-are-the-parts-of-the-recurve-bow

I used to shoot heavy tackle open sights in local competitions with a 75 lb pull compound. I used an open grip with a bow strap. I don’t recall any forward motion of the bow at all. Vibration, yes. But I would always just catch the bow as it began to fall.

I haven’t watched Olympic archery for a long time, but back in the day a standard technique was to shoot with a completely open grip and just let the bow fall to be caught by the strap after the shot. I don’t remember seeing bows leap out of anyone’s hands. They just fall down.

But it’s been years and years since I did any serious archery, so maybe I am misremembering, or the force you are talking about is very small and I just never noticed.

And that’s when Denise said to Rosita, “I didn’t mean to pick him over you.”
