The creators of Breaking Bad have been quoted as saying they were surprised that no matter how terrible Walter White was, people still supported him.
Personally, I find it surprising that after all sorts of genocidal acts in the past century that anyone thinks it unusual that humans can be convinced to murder, maim and torture – and do it without any regret.
“per se”? He’s not a drug dealer because he manufactures drugs and sells (aka deals) them to others??? That makes him a drug dealer AND a drug manufacturer. He’s a character of those who deal dangerous and illegal drugs to other drug dealers who don’t care who uses the product as long as they pay for the product. In advance. Before they overdose, are arrested, or are killed committing a crime in order to get the money to pay for the illegally manufactured drugs. Obviously, some people (viewers) find the life and times of drug dealers to be more interesting than others (non-viewers) do.
People bring their own real world experiences with them as they view TWD, BB, FTWD, HIMYN, Friends, or The Dick Van Dyke Show. Some people like the actors, or the characters, or the writing, or the directing, or the special effects, or the action, or the location. TWD production brings enough to the table to draw, and keep, a big audience season after season. The audience seems to enjoy the show so much that they are even willing to spend time watching the Talking Dead in order to better understand the backstory, character development, and to find out what the writers/directors/editors failed to make clear during the actual show.
I mostly meant that he doesn’t have the first clue about “dealing drugs,” so he has someone else, who already does it, do it for him. He makes it and hands it off. But you’re right, ultimately he profits from the sale of the drugs.
I don’t really wish to drag this thread any more off topic. So…
How about that finale? It’s gonna be Glenn. Unless off-season focus-grouping or Twitter analysis causes them to chicken out.
How about if next season is a replay of this season, but from the Saviors’ persepective, and climaxes in the exact same scene! Bonus points for making that one a cheap cliffhanger, too.
The POV theory (it must be Glenn) does make sense. Tracking the Eenie Meenie Miney OH NO theory (another popular online theory) doesn’t seem to work. The last name Negan mentions before selecting someone is Rick. Maggie and Sasha are next to Rick. Abe and Aaron are the next closest. Did Negan walk past 5 people to select to Glenn? Or three to select Eugene? Negan almost killed Maggie because she looks sickly.
Kneeling left to right (audience view looking at the actor’s faces) -
Glenn
Rosita
Daryl
Michonne
Abe
Maggie
Rick
Sasha
Aaron
Carl
Eugene
EMMM (on camera) selections -
1 Rick
2 Maggie
3 Abe
4 Michonne
5 Daryl
6 Sasha
7 Aaron
8 Carl
9 Michonne
10 Eugene
11 Sasha
12 Rosita
13 Aaron
14 Glenn
15 Maggie
16 Daryl
17 Abe
18 Carl
19 Rick
???
OTOH, Chandler Riggs (Carl) posted to the Talking Dead that he still didn’t know who was killed, and he’s an insider. Personally, I believe that the logical conclusion doesn’t mean as much as the executive producer’s final decision. HA HA. We fooled you. It was Maggie.
I am blown away by how many people seem to be genuinely surprised/shocked that they didn’t show us who dies. You’re serious? Forget whether you are new to TWD…are you new to television itself?
Season 1
The group just tries to survive, and in the penultimate episode they decide to make for the CDC . We get a tense episode in which they don’t get blown up at the end. There’s a small cliffhanger: What did Dr. Jenner whisper to Rick?
Season 2
After spending time on Hershel’s farm the finale finds the group camped out on the road, very close to the prison. The cliffhanger is ‘What will happen when they find the prison?’ Oh, and the Season 1 ‘cliffhanger’ is revealed. The audience had already figured it out.
Season 3
No cliffhanger. Andrea croaks herself.
Season 4
Rick and his subgroup are captured by the Termites. At the end they are in a boxcar and Rick says the Termites are messing with the wrong people. The cliffhanger is how they will rain death and destruction on their captors. We already know they will not be killed and eaten.
Season 5
Tyrese is killed halfway through the season. Beth gets killed in the fourth-to-the-last episode. In the finale Porch Dick’s story arc is resolved. At the very end the audience is shown that the Wolves are coming. Not much of a cliffhanger, being told to expect Bad Guys.
Season 6
Someone is beaten to death, and we’re assured it’s one of the main characters.
In all of the other seasons, major characters were killed off before the finale or (Andrea) at the end of the final episode. Season 6 is the first time a major character snuffs it and we’re not shown who it is. The expectation, following the pattern of the other seasons, is that the character will be known by the end of the episode and that the cliffhanger will be what happens in the aftermath. So yeah, I think it’s reasonable to be shocked/pissed off that they didn’t do the reveal.
I know this is an old post, but, yanno, for years I avoided TWD because I thought a zombie series was hopeless- no way a show with that premise could be anything but dumb. And I am someone who likes zombie movies! But- 90 minutes? Sure. Multiple seasons? I didn’t think so.
Well, once I watched the first season, I really liked it. It isn’t that I don’t notice how stupid the characters can be. I mean, geez, in these horror shows, why do the characters always go into the basement? But that is the way it is: stupid characters drive horror stories. TWD is like that, but it doesn’t matter, it is a good show anyway (lol usually), at least to me. If I want classic literature, I can read Daphnis and Chloe. Sooner or later though, I am going to be like, “there aren’t any zombies in this.”
So now I eagerly await the next Carol-ex-machina. I am going to miss Glenn. And yeah, in the zombie apocalypse people are stupid, but that appears to be universal, so at least there is a level playing field. For all we know, the zombie virus renders people stupid and they are helpless against this effect. Maybe one of our morally tortured characters will have an insight into this, will devise away to cure the stupid in her friends, and then they’ll really kick a lot of ass. I don’t know, but I do know it has been saying it is fiction, right there in the credits, all the way since E1.
So give BB a try. Give it 3 episodes. It really is pretty interesting.
Mrs. L.A. and I have a five-dollar bet. She says it will be Michonne because she slept with Rick. I say it will be Glenn for reasons in this thread. Her second choice is Rosita, and my second choice is Michonne.
No bet on this one, but I think Negan’s mole in Alexandria is Enid, with Deanna’s sone being the second choice. Mrs. L.A. says Enid absolutely isn’t it.
Enid has always been aloof. She spent a lot of time outside of the community. The scenario I imagine that makes her the mole is this: After her parents are killed, she ‘just survives somehow’. ‘JSS’ has become her mantra. She is found by Negan, who decides she can be useful. He induces her to infiltrate the Alexandria Safe Zone to gather intelligence until he gets around to taking it over. Rick’s group arrives, and Enid forms a friendship with Coral. She doesn’t want to betray the group, but if she stops spying Negan will kill or maim her. So she decides to take the middle option and just leave and ‘just survive somehow’ on her own as she did before Negan found her.
Well if it is Enid, then Rick and crew were spared an awkward moment of recognition between her and Negan since she is locked up in the closet. And if it is her, she has the chance to go counter-agent once she sees that Rick’s group is a little nicer than Negan’s.
But the kid had training from Carol Herself in sneaking around, keeping secrets. He was manipulable. And I think Enid is in the show to be Carl’s girlfriend, eventually.
My second-choice mole is Spencer. He’s always seemed a little weaselly to me (stealing food and alcohol from the pantry), and he suggested Rick make a deal with Negan.
