The Walking Dead; 8.12 "The Key" (open spoilers)

What can Jadis do with a batless Negan? I assume her first option is to sculpt him, but then what? She kept Negan alive for a reason (or at least the writers did. ). She could force him to preform gladiatorial combat in the trash heap. She could trade Negan for something from the Saviors? Or she could trade Negan to Rick/Hillside in exchange for shelter, or food, or a head start for parts unknown?

Overall, the story jumped about a bit, but I assume the director was trying to show that these stories were taking place simultaneously. Or the director and editor kept misplacing the storyline pages. hehehe.

At least three of Negan’s top guys are having 2nd, 3rd, 4th thoughts about staying with Negan. Eugene is a born liar and shouldn’t be trusted by anyone. Dwight doesn’t know if Simon is playing him, or has actually turned against Negan. Dwight wants Negan dead, but if he’s willing to let Daryl and Tara settle old scores (by killing him) after Negan’s dead, why not kill Negan himself and make a run for it? And Simone is already looking out for his own future.

WHO’S GEORGIE? The new group is interesting. The twins, and someone who’s a cross between Deanna and Aaron. Part scavenger, part negotiator, part city planner. Georgie’s trading style suggests that potential new trading partners require a test, or two, before they can be fully trusted. A smart move during the zombie apocalypse. We want records (because we’re civilized) and we have food (so we’re more than we might initially seem). Maggie, with some help from her friends, passed the initial test, and as a reward/encouragement received more than she had originally bargained for. Georgie’s group is probably much larger, and well-heeled, than they appear to be.

Oh yeah, Georgie likely has the largest and most well organized group we’ve ever seen behind her.

I am willing to believe that, til I know different.

Perhaps it is Georgie’s helicopter.

I don’t know, the Georgie thing seems a bit convenient and forced to me. The writers are looking toward wrapping the series up with I assume some sort of hope for the future, so here’s this person out of the blue offering up a big binderful of plans to reboot civilization expecting very little in return. Felt like a bit of a Deux Ex Georgina.

It was pretty good. The writers really should have just killed Negan off, no build up, just his own stupidity for riding alone with nothing but Lucille, that would have been huge. Or Rick could have talen his hand with that hatchet like Negan had threatened to do.

But apparently the “act out of character so we can force this plot” torch got handed to Maggie. Who was just beginning to show ruthless realism in her leadership. But then, thinking that this is a trap, she just rolls up at the assigned location? Seriously?

Here’s a conversation we held on Sunday night: Mr. Salinqmind (Mr. S.) walks thru room, stops and stares at tv: Are you still watching that thing? Me: Yes, it’s Sunday night, it’s what I do. Mr. S.: I’ve seen that son-of-a-bitch (Negan) on this show forever. Isn’t he the villain? Me: Yes. Mr. S: Isn’t that the hero (Rick) - shooting a machine gun at him from 10 feet away? Me: YES! Mr. S: Why are you still watching that? Me: (mumbles I dunno…it’s Sunday night, it’s what I do.)

Don’t know if it has anything to do with him on the show or not, but he’s starring in Death Stranding - Wikipedia but its’ a video game not a movie.
