The story of Alex and Jon Ronson’s secret mission to the Bohemian Grove is a hoot. Jon told the tale of their adventure in his book Them: Adventures With Extremists. It was also an espisode of Ronson’s series Secret Rulers of the World.
Frylock, wasn’t talking to you. If its alright with you, I was asking Stranger.
Don’t give two shits what you think.
Stranger is someone who has been around these parts for some time and I am genuinely interested in his answer, not what you believe Stranger’s answer would be. You don’t think Stranger can speak for himself? I don’t have any idea at all what Stranger’s answer will be. That is why I asked the question. The only thing I am hoping to accomplish is to get an answer from Stranger should he decide to respond.
It Alex Jones was actually presenting information and opinion that he believed in good faith to be true I’d argue for his right to present it even if I found it objectionable. It is clear, however, that he is playing the role of conspiranoic demagogue for the purpose of making money by disinforming people and stirring shit, so I have no problem with media companies refusing to patronize his disingeneous horseshit.
Stranger
He has a right to speak. He doesn’t have a right to advertiser revenue or the right to a spot on a private company’s platform.
They might not have much of a presence but a lot of things sold to US consumers on Amazon, eBay, and other online retailers, come from Alibaba. I remember looking into wholesale orders from them over a decade ago but never did anything with it.
People are getting what Alibaba is wrong. It’s a web site that allows other companies to sell their goods. Originally focusing on wholesalers. So if you wanted 500 HDMI cables direct from the manufacturer in China, this was your place.
They have since expanded to more retail-like sales (as in only one HDMI cable) but it’s still just a sales intermediary.
Alibaba does not sell on Amazon. They are competitors! Some companies that sell on Alibaba also sell on Amazon. And some also sell on eBay. Etc.
What I find fascinating is that many of them are not stupid. I work with a couple electrical engineer who believe in all kinds of crazy conspiracy theories. When it comes to their work they are very logical and rational. But for some bizarre reason, they believe 9/11 was an “inside job” and JFK was shot by eight shooters.
So while it’s tempting and perhaps comforting to say all of the people who listen to Alex Jones are stupid, the reality is that many are not stupid, which is scarier.
