The White Elephant Exchange 2007

USPS says that they attempted to deliver my elephant yesterday but that nobody was home and they left a notice. I don’t believe them, because there is no mail delivery in the US on Veteran’s Day! But hopefully the elephant should make its grand appearance sometime today…

Hey HockeyMonkey no problem…

What can I say, Your both my favorite sport and animal…LOL

The Gretzky autograph was procured during his BRIEF tenure in St Louis…he (and the rest of the team) used to hang out where I worked and at the bar across the street. He could NOT have been more friendly and amicable…notice you didn’t get Brett Hull’s sig…cause he was a DICK and not very friendly.

Enjoy the book Jitterbug Perfume. It is from one of my favorite authors.

Hopefully you won’t need the crime scene tape anytime soon…

The display items are the hockey pucks…

Patiently awaiting the arrival of my box of crap…err…“white elephant”…

tsfr…aka daniel

My box has begun a 2 day trip to the northeast. Sorry for the delay!

MsWhatsit, your box arrived at my office this afternoon!

The contents include
-An Easy Bake Oven. Which prompted a brief jumpy dance when I saw it. It is on my desk and I feel its presence their will add a touch of dignity that my afternoon meetings today might have otherwise lacked.
-Lots of loose leaf tea. The boyfriend will be thrilled, for he is a big tea fan.
-A metronome. Whose cover did not completely survive the trip. I am anxious to get it home and use it to mess with the cat.
-Many National Geographic maps.
-A Lovecraft spoof on a Chick Track. I’ve seen this online and it’s hilarious. It’s made the rounds at my office already. Which lead to a lot of new people discovering Chick Tracks and becoming enraged by them. Let the intolerance of the intolerance spread!
-Milky candy. The little girl on the front of the bag looks like she wants to eat my face.
-A green mug, of the non-tippy variety.
-Several books, including one on urban legends that looks like a fun subway read.
-A Bob Dylan CD.

I feel like my first White Elephant Exchange was an unmitigated success.

USPS says my elephant was delivered on Nov 08, 2007! Still waiting to hear back from the receiver…

I was going to post not to be afraid of/annoyed by the firm name but most people say “Who? Whazzat?” when I tell them where I work.

Hint: I find those kinds of CDs quite helpful for rounding out White Elephants. Unfortunately, one acquires such things when one lives in Woo Woo Land. You should be grateful I forgot the New Age “music” CDs. :stuck_out_tongue:

I actually like medieval fantasy, although be warned that The Steerswoman series was never completed.

The & was acquired during a name change at my last company. Everyone else wanted the letters, so I got the &.

The world pictures were also from my last job. They provided entertainment for people hanging around my desk waiting for my boss, the night sky in particular.

IIRC, the dragon is supposed to be hand-carved from bone. I don’t remember where I got it from, though. I’m glad you like him.

Ooo, I live in the NE. That could be for me. ooooooo… I did check this morning and no note in my PO box.

Hee! Just got an elephant from a Zebra, and it was spectacular ! It included:

3 t-shirts (The Bachelor, X-Men, and Sleepy Hollow [my favorite])

Angelica Doll

Various Sleepy Hollow swag (LOVE)

Halloween basket

Dreamworks watch (very cool)

3 DVDs (Italian Job, Days of Thunder, and a special The Mexican DVD marked “for your consideration in all categories”)

Neato ashtray

Creepy ass painting (Is it evil? Filled with ennui?)

And I know the question on all of your minds…yes, I did.

ETA: I almost forgot to say THANK YOU! We loved it.

HAHAHAHAHAH!

I had hung that ‘painting’ in my computer room but it was just so sad.
I used to work for Paramount Pictures so I have loads of movie swag and most of the stuff I gave you, I have other copies laying around. That bucket though is special. We made popcorn bags to promote the films. Paper ones and the stiff bucket style. We sometimes made plastic drink cups. Tim Burton wanted to do a special popcorn bucket and he designed that bucket. About 100 prototypes were made but they were just a little too expensive to make and ship to theatres. So that’s a rare little bit of swag.
OH and the ashtray, well when we cleaned out mom’s house, for some reason I took about 4 ash trays. I don’t smoke. I think my parents stole that from a restaurant in Tokoyo in the late '50s.
You have no idea how close you came to getting my ex-wife’s wedding dress which is still in my apt.
ANYONE STILL DOUBT ME ABOUT THAT PAINTING NOW?

Alright, **Hugh Jass ** has sent me a Hugh jbox of stuff. Don’t have time to catalog it now, but let’s just say I still wish I had my CRT at work instead of a flatscreen.

i’m glad you liked it. i kinda lost track of what was being tossed in so no master list.

i hope you had time to open it before you ran off. an unsecured elephant can quickly disappear as you witnessed first hand.

i think the scooby was the nutcracker version… not one of my favourite looks for him. could be band-camp scooby as well.

i’m sure y’all will fill the photo albums.

When I weighed the box, I discovered it was most definitely a flat-rate Priority Mail candidate.

So it will go out tomorrow.

Well dang, I can’t remember for the life of me what I put in there.

I’m sitting here at work trying to remember all 17 items in the box. So here goes:

-6 3.5" floppies
-A set of 10-12 3.5" floppies containing “Quark Express”
-A set of HP photo paper
-A nice wicker basket
-An inflatable mini-beachball
-An 8.5" playground ball
-A battery-powered mini-fan with built-in spritzer
-An unopened VHS tape of the 1998 Redskins season (I’m a skins fan. Woo-Hoo!)
-The Idiots Guide to Fishing
-The Classics Illustrated version of Robert Louis Stevensons “Master of Ballantrae.”
-A Clive Cussler novel
-A paperback pamphlet from the National Electronics Manufactureers Association
-A ready-to-eat indian dish (Palak something. Looks delicious)
-An old rabbit-ears style TV antenna by Archer. I think I’ll put that on one of the TVs here at work.
-Issue #450 of The Mighty Thor! (In a proper bag with backing board and everything)
-A 5 DVD set of 10 old westerns
-Some battery-operated under the counter mounted lights.

-possibly something(s) that I’m forgetting.

Overall, a Mighty pile! Thanks to a Hugh Jass!

Well, that officially makes it cooler than the painting (maybe). I thought it was a trick-or-treat bucket!

Ha! Gotta love swag with a back story. It’s on my coffee table as we speak. Thanks again!

Oh, and even though I never said anything to my daughter about the painting, she saw it on the wall and said it creeped her out. So in case you were wondering if it’s still working, the answer is definitely yes.

Like the big-ass serrated knife and metal polishing compound.

How could I forget that?

Did I mention that at night, the boy leaves the painting and does ‘things’ in your room, so that you can get in trouble for it?

got a “Sorry we missed you! We Re-Deliver for you” not from USPS…hmmmmm.

More to follow.

tsfr

:smack: …WAS from USPS…

Missed edit window of time.

daniel

I hope my gifter packed enough food for my elephant for the journey.

Speaking from past experience, there’s nothing like a dead elephant showing up on your doorstep.
