The White Elephant Exchange 2007

Reading the past threads and what is being shared in this one gives still leaves me with no clue as to how my offering will be perceived once it is received. I have decided to throw in a few various sundry items just in case the primary offering misses the mark.

Wow, that was really quick!

The oval clear plastic thingies are a type of bobber.

The viking ship was my attempt at tacky, yet still displayable. Should fit right in with the Danish troll.

Ummm… I got my White Elephant, and it weighs about as much an an elephant! And yes, there is a tube with it. I won’t be able to open it until I get home, though, so I’ll post then,

Ok, mine is all packed up and ready to go out (I’ll hit the post office on my lunch hour), so it’s time for some elephant opening!

First off, the explanation for this:

…can be found here and here.

Now then, the list 'o loot:
[ul]
[li]A talking microscope with insect slides. I’ll be playing with this quite a bit before I decide to hand it over to The Littlest Briston.[/li][li]A checkers/chess/backgammon set, which rocks since my wife and I love backgammon.[/li][li]A 100-piece U.S. map puzzle.[/li][li]A Berenstain Bears book reminding us not to use the TV as a babysitter.[/li][li]Four Pokemon videos and a Muppets video which we can use to babysit The Littlest Briston.[/li][li]A toy moose, which TLB will love – one of her bedtime books has a picture of a moose, and I intentionally skip that page when I read her the book anymore. If I don’t skip it, then she’ll run around the room laughing and yelling “Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose! Moose!!” (I shortened her speech drastically, for space considerations)[/li][li]A stuffed sheep. Thank you…you shouldn’t have.[/li][li]A headless Ken doll. At least, I’m assuming it’s a Ken doll. For obvious reasons, we can’t use dental records to identify the body. Fingerprints won’t work either, since in Barbie World, fingerprints are as smooth as genitalia.[/li][li]A cuuuuute little fuzzy pink bunny. So adorable. He’s just…wait a minute…this bunny looks familiar. It’s like a smaller version of a bunny I’ve seen before. Perhaps an offspring of a bunny I’ve met? Hold on…that looks like…oh, sweet mother of mercy, it’s reproduced! Ieeeeeeeeeeeee!!![/li][/ul]

Thanks much to Shirley Ujest for the swag!

I have sent mine off, hopefully it will arrive in a few days. I sent it Fed Ex ground so an elephantee needs to watching for a Fed ex guy or gal with their package.

I can’t believe the Post Office let that box be mailed. They refused a package from me once because I didn’t use clear tape but black tape.

Zebra, can you check your e-mail, since you are here?

PO “rules” are a mile long, and basically state that your can’t use anything other than official US Postal Service boxes with absolutely no extra markings of any kind, and nothing but clear tape, and make sure your penmanship is perfect, and yadda yadda yadda.

Naturally, all of this is ignored, except for those times when someone feels like being an asshole. I’m guessing the PO worker you spoke to got shot down by Bettie in the accounting department again, and took out his frustration on you.

I’m a little concerned now about what might be coming…

Shucks! I must have missed this during my late October chocolate induced haze.
Rats.
I had some fascinating stuff I could have sent, too. :frowning:

You know, you’re not supposed to start mainlining the cacao until at least October 31…

I sent my pachy a packin’ (out west) this afternoon. Should arrive in a couple of days.

Oh Og what have I gotten myself into? I came home to three packages and an irate postman at the door. I’ve been expecting some stuff from eBay and two of them came. Then there was the box that cost $15 to ship. You know you’re in trouble when a grown man can’t pick up the box.

Let’s see inside I have:
some old table stuff, one, just one, place mat, one napkin or something that matches the place mat.
Some stuff to color my hair, not that I plan on doing it anytime soon but at least the colors will go.
“Adventures in Microwave Cooking” from 1983.
A couple of books that I’ve never heard of before, though they all say millions sold.
a DVD of “Frailty” which I’ve heard of but that’s it.
a mug, which is useful.
a deck of playing cards from the University of Chicago, with a nice case.
Some photo coasters.
Something which I think you’re supposed to put in the middle of the table, doesn’t match the other stuff.
a candle and wicker basket, I hope they don’t go together!
a Jester hat.

And the thing that I’m supposed to display, a stuffed pineapple. Where the hell does a stuffed pineapple come from?

I think my wife is going to kill me. But do I take the pineapple to work or leave it at home? My daughter might like it.

ETA: it says it came from Gigi from Vermont. Now I really have to know where a pineapple comes from in Vermont.

We need pictures.

WOOT! The pachy made it in record time.

What can I say, I live alone

Hee. It came from a trip out of town–we don’t have glamorous items like that around here!

Ok, here’s my White Elephant from Edward the Head:
First, the tube:
[ul]
[li]One poster for some mysterious Russian band. I only know it’s Russian because it’s all written in Russian. I am Genius![/li][li]One flyer from Moscow, also in Russian. The only thing I can read is on the bottom and it says “Moscow News!”[/li][li]One really awesomely cool Escher print which is going up tonight. [/li][/ul]

And the enormously heavy elephant:

[ul]
[li]A VHS of Judas Priest[/li][li]A Return of the Jedi Storybook. Awesome![/li][li]Two Iron Maiden VHS’s. One is “Behind the Iron Curtain”. The other is “Live After Death.”[/li][li]A Monty Python song book…that is very cool.[/li][li]4 Grendel Comic Books[/li][li]1 Spring Heel Jack Comic Book[/li]These are especially cool because I am interested enough in comics to read but not interested enough to buy them.
[li] 3 Adventures of Baron Munchausen comic books. I love Baron Munchausen. I have the movie![/li][li]A small paperback book: Indiana Jones Chronicles: South of the Border[/li][li]Three CDs. Vent: Behind the Mask. Warlord: Rock the Foe Hammer. and Rush: The Story of Kings. Rush at least I have heard of! Never heard of the other two. [/ul][/li]
Pretty cool! I have some new songs to listen to! Thanks!

And the enormously heavy elephant:

A Return of the Jedi Storybook. Awesome!

I have so much Star Wars Stuff I’m trying to get rid of. Glad you like it.

A Monty Python song book…that is very cool.

I’ve had that for years, I thought you might like it.

4 Grendel Comic Books
1 Spring Heel Jack Comic Book
These are especially cool because I am interested enough in comics to read but not interested enough to buy them.

Damn, I wish I would have known, I have a ton of comics I don’t want. All of those however come from when I was in Ireland in the early 90s and reading comics. Don’t get hooked or you might not be able to find the rest of them.

3 Adventures of Baron Munchausen comic books. I love Baron Munchausen. I have the movie!

Again I thought I had remembered you from the Monty Python threads, had to throw it in there.

A small paperback book: Indiana Jones Chronicles: South of the Border

I have a huge collection of Indy stuff, but this book seems to come in every lot of books I buy, I had to get rid of at least one copy.

Three CDs. Vent: Behind the Mask. Warlord: Rock the Foe Hammer. and Rush: The Story of Kings. Rush at least I have heard of! Never heard of the other two.

I’d never heard of them either. The Vent comes from Florida I think, my brother gave it to me.

And now, for the good stuff. A bit of back ground. Years ago I was married to a Russian woman. Her mother lived here, her father in Moscow. I went to Russia once.

One poster for some mysterious Russian band. I only know it’s Russian because it’s all written in Russian. I am Genius!

There’s a date, I think from the late 80s early 90s, same time I was in Ireland. She told me the name once, I have no idea what it was. She said they were popular.

One flyer from Moscow, also in Russian. The only thing I can read is on the bottom and it says “Moscow News!”

There should be some German on there as well. I think that was from some concert in the early 90s.

The story is that when I was in Russia I visited the Moscow State University. Her father was a professor there. There was an Iron Maiden poster on the wall that I liked. When I got back I asked if he could get it for me. I don’t think he knew who Iron Maiden was because those are the posters I got. I also got one from the Monsters of Rock Moscow which is hanging on my wall. So those posters hung on the Moscow State University wall in the Geology department. Probably for ten years or so.

One really awesomely cool Escher print which is going up tonight.

You’re going to like this one even more. This is actually an Opalcat drawing. She gave it to me a few years ago, I have no room to hang it any more and it’s been in the tube for a couple of years.

I think you should hang the one of the goofy guy up. I still wonder what the German poster was about.

I have just enabled a small pachyderm of the melanin-impaired persuasion to spread its ears and fly west. According to the flight plan, it should arrive on Wednesday or Thursday. It’s small because I’ve moved so much I no longer have any large pachyderms, but it’s heart is big.

bobbers!!! goes with the lure. i thought they might be something like odd old fashioned flash bulbs.

the ship looks good next to the troll. i will tell everyone it is a rare antique ship from minn.

yep, it did arrive quicker than i expected. it is usually 4 -5 days from mid-west to mid-'lantic. quess they are getting into holiday mode.

Ok, my White Elephant is all packed up and will fly tomorrow. It’s going west also. Am I telling who gets it now or do I tell after they get it and open up all of the things?

It is also a somewhat small elephant, but it’s an Indian elephant (heh) and they’re twice as useful anyways.
