I think the fact that Buffy has a walk-on role in a damn 1-800-CALL-ATT commercial featuring a megaphone-wielding Carrot Top nullifies any positive influence her little vampire show had.

Whoa! Is that really her? My mom and I got in a huge argument about it last week. I don’t think it is her. Can I have a cite for this?
Similarly, I am all about Maura Tierny. It’s mostly lingering adoration from when she was on News Radio, though.
Actually it’s a 1-800-COLLECT commercial. My bad. Look carefully as she walks across the screen. Don’t let the prop comic distract you. It’s her.
As circumstantial support, she has appeared in commercials for 1-800-COLLECT before. Observe Buffy the Toll-Call Slayer.
1-800 COLLECT commercials aren’t as atrocious as, say, a 10-10-321 commercial, but they’re still pretty bad.
Lord God in burlap sack pants, people!
What of ‘GILMORE GIRLS’?
Perhaps THE funniest, best written show around! Extremly clever. They use several words per episode that have more than one syllable! Check out Phil Rosenthal’s column today http://www.Chicagosuntimes.com (click on columnists-Rosenthal is on the right side of the screen)
for a critc POV
I have no argument with you about Gilmore Girls, Miss Creant; it is indeed an excellent show.
But while I agree it got snubbed, I can’t really work up too much indignation yet. It was the show’s first season and given that it is an strong asset for WB (the critics love it, the “TV is evil” people love it, and it has enough viewers to survive the lower expectations of WB), it will have many more opportunities to be nominated.
But Buffy isn’t going to be around forever; it is definitely middle-aged by TV standards. It’s been snubbed for too long, and as “The Body” was the best hour of (at least) broadcast TV this season, it is just terrible sad.
