Ya know, I became a lawyer because I am a romantic. Odd, but true. I believed that there is a thing called Justice, and while people are shortsighted and sometimes actually evil, the vast majority of the population wanted to do right for themselves and for others.
But my belief is shaken. Today I learned that Justice, if it exists at all, is fickle:
*Buffy did not get nominated for an Emmy[/i
Hello?!! Did you Emmy-nominating fuckers see the episode entitled “The Body”?!!!?!??!!! Has there ever been a more accurate recreation, in any medium, of the pain and heartbreak of the loss of a loved one?!!
Quite simply, the answer is no. And you in the “Academy” - a most undeserved term, as “Academy” usually equates with “intelligence” - ignored it. “Ohhh, it’s on WB! Ohhhh, it’s a fantasy show. Ewww, it’s not ‘serious’.” We can’t nominate it. Let’s go with ‘ER’, which has been recycling scripts for 5 years now.
Well, fuck you. Catch on to the fact that good writing and acting can and does exist outside your petty little experience. Recognize that the funky can be good. You have very little time to repent - the sacrifice to the Haaklar demon has been prepared.
You think Sua’s post is angry? Get thee to the Buffy lists and one can experience bitterness from people called “BuffyNAngelForevur” who have atrocious spelling.
I love the delete key. And I do agree that it is a travesty that a show with such excellent writing and acting get shafted yet again. Rat bastards.
I feel your pain, Sua. I really do. I go through the same thing every year when they release the Oscar nominations. (Gladiator? Gladiator?) I have this little pipe dream where I win an Oscar for some empty headed popcorn film like Gladiator, and refuse it from the podium, because “you people clearly have no taste.”
If I bribe the Academy to nominate Buffy next year, do we get to see Sarah Michelle Gellar in a lopezesque dress? Because I’m only going to do it if the lopezesque dress is guaranteed.
Sua, your constant quest for truth, justice, and the American Way is why I love you.
Is anyone still watching ER? Does anyone still care about the ups and downs of Drs. Carter, Green, Benton, and Weaver? Do we need to start a thread about “once good shows that have become completely unwatchable”?
Nah, there’s a whole website dedicated to the phenomenon.
I think the fact that Buffy has a walk-on role in a damn 1-800-CALL-ATT commercial featuring a megaphone-wielding Carrot Top nullifies any positive influence her little vampire show had.
You want a real show with hot chicks and a morbid undercurrent? Six Feet Under is the way to go. Try to catch the first few episodes. Big Black Sex Cop won’t let you down.
“Buffy…” is perfect - popular enough to stay on the air, not so popular that all the idiots are talking about it at work. Nominations and crap would just upset the perfect balance that it is maintaining. I for one am happy about this. I know how good the show is; the slobbering masses don’t need to/shouldn’t find out about it; it would wreck everything.
(Big Black Sex Cop? That’s it - I’m changing my nom de pixel!)
