ThelmaLou crybaby snowflake way to take things out of context.

Even more when you consider that she is a Texan, a people widely admired for their calm modesty and decorum.

Yes.

You know, if your house is on fire, and you’re in it, it’s probably not entirely unreasonable to suggest fairly emphatically that it’s hot in here and it’s probably going to get hotter. Yes, sometimes TL has been strident in her anti-Trumpism, and I’ve defended her because sometimes we need that kind of energy.

But let’s not digress from the main point, which is that the OP is a brainless illiterate asshole who one can only hope won’t be around for long.

Well for me, the more interesting part is how - because the OP is a “brainless illiterate asshole” - some people in this thread have morphed reality to think ThelmaLou acted perfecty reasonably.

What I was saying was that I didn’t see how the response was reacting to the OP’s opinion on the DOCUMENTARY, regardless of what you think of either OP and response. IOW, I didn’t see how the response was necessarily saying that disrespecting the documentary meant disrespecting vets. But I freely admit I may have missed it.

Most people with SDMB staying power refrain from pitting other posters in, oh, say, their first few weeks on the board.

Opinion of the documentary was the entirety of the OP. So when ThelmaLou said “I did see the OP’s comment as flippant and far from hilarious.” you think she meant what exactly?

All of the OP’s brain cells are fleeing to the top of his head, trying to board the last helicopter.

Uh, that was Thelma replying to Lamoral, who I think does deserve that slightest agreement.

On that I agree.

How many hours into a documentary series do you have to be before you realize you aren’t getting anything out of it and switch over to something else?

20 hours, I guess :smack:

To be fair, if you start watching one of these documentaries, and you stop before you have completed it, Ken Burns will personally come and kick you in the groin. It’s in the EULA.

I stopped watching Baseball after the first episode and Ken Burns spiked me. (Made me very glad I’d gone through The Civil War completely.)

She quoted Lamoral’s post, but she took offense at the OP. The way I know that is it says “OP” in her post.

Emphasis added.

Geez, Louise, people. I stay away from the board for six hours… :smack:

Carry on. I’m enjoying it.

No, but he will take a photo of your crotch, and slowly pan across it while talking about how much a kick would hurt.

I agree with John Mace. The OP ‘s “20 hours” phrase was innocent enough. ThelmaLou had every right to point out the interesting contrast between this and real-life sacrifices during the real-life war; her hurt feelings were real. The OP should have calmly, briefly acknowledged those feelings, and stated he obviously meant no offense — (the “hours I won’t get back” is just a standard phrase to critique an work of art or entertainment, so no need for a full apology).

Instead, the OP freaked out, and that’s when HE became the problem.

She took offense at the same “comment” Lamoral mentioned, meaning the OP’s thread title.

The way I know that is it says “comment” in her post, and she quotes Lamoral posting about the “comment” in the thread title.

eta: or pretty much how JKellyMap describes it.

Yes, and the context is Lamoral’s post indeed. The point is that one cannot omit that what Lamoral posted led Thelma to take on the OP, and based on what she endured I give her a break.

Like I said, the morphing of reaity here is fascinating. Like you can’t shit on the TextualAssault’s head unless you make ThelmaLou a blameless poor widow.

Derp as much as you like about a distinction without a difference (Thread Title vs OP), but Thelma took offense where none was given or meant.

And yes, JkellyMap fleshed out my earlier post in exactly the way I would have had I elaborated. There is a decent way to react to Thelma’s post (Sorry if that brought back bad memories, but I was in no way trying to impugn those who fought and died in that war) and there is nasty, uncalled for way to react (the way the OP of this thread did).

ETA: I thought Burns’ documentary was A+. I watched the whole thing twice. I lived through that war (not in it, but I was alive and kicking while it was going on), and I learned all sorts of stuff I never knew.
