Ah, I already knew I was weird, this just confirms it. There’s been many a time when I wished I could call a distribution company or even the factory and find out a local store to Buy Their Stuff. Like I said, I’m weird.
Thanks for the explanation, picunurse. I hereby move from the to the :dubious: field - cite for pasteurization not killing the spores? Would UHT do it?
According to that report, Middlebro shouldn’t have let The Kid chew on his finger and clothes when he got home from work (construction foreman). I hope SiL never figures that detail out :smack:
Oddly enough, I think this might not be terribly common. We actually took Microsoft Streets and Trips and created a map with coloured flags and pins for every one of our dealers, broken down by the manufacturers they deal with, across Canada, so we can find a dealer near anyone simply by plugging in their city or postal code. From what I’ve been able to gather though, this is fairly unusual unless the company is pretty big. (We’re not, but this map is the world’s biggest freakin’ time saver 'cos we get asked frequently every day.) Our main competitor, who is larger than us and owned by a major manufacturer of small engines, doesn’t have anything like that. What gets me is that they must get tons of calls from end users looking for dealers – surely enough to justify the time and expense of making such a map, or at least some sort of dealer lookup geared towards end users.
Thanks for the information about honey! I don’t feed babies, so I had no idea. There are lots of things about babies I don’t know, and I intend to remain blissfully ignorant.
It is very sad about VT, but I am moving beyond sad to pissed off. I am so tired of the media jumping all over everything. Guess what? There wasn’t a fucking procedure in place for this because no one expected it to happen! Can you let people grieve a bit before you start throwing blame around?
I wish I could go shopping with the money I’m mailing to the state of Georgia today. Oh well.
CRD Parks just called me. They were out looking for the former deer, but couldn’t find it. I gave them some better directions, then changed clothes and walked into the woods. I found the CRD guys, they’d found the former deer, and were digging a hole to bury it. RIP, poor deer. I am glad it will be off the path and in the ground, though, as it made the prospect of a walk in the woods not appealing. Not a fun job for the CRD guys; I hope they get paid well.
It’s still hard not to think about yesterday’s shootings. I guess it will be on everyone’s mind for a time. I feel so selfish trying to enjoy my holiday week at home when other people’s lives have been ended and ruined. Of course, watching the news any day of the week just reminds me of how lucky my life has been so far. How come I got to be born in Canada, with no war, famine, oppression…
I want to eat some honey now. I like the honey where it separates out and the top part gets this thick white crust of delicious sweetness. It’s more fun than the plain ol’ liquid kind.
My husband: “I’m going to call you a nice name that starts with a “b”. Let’s see… Darling… no, sweetheart… Ah, honey.”
picunurse - thank you for chiming in. I spent several minutes looking for a proper cite to no avail, but I knew someone in the medical field would be around soon enough.
I’m a little better now - I have to run out - to the post office, mainly. And to drop off my camera for repair. I’ll probably stay out once I’m out, because tonite is Buzztime Trivia night for me ‘n’ my homies.
Holy cow. Canada is a big, beautiful blank. (At the present; there have certainly been events in the past.) Greenland looks pretty safe. I was thinking how all the incidents seem to be spread along the middle of the earth, and wondered why, but decided that it’s likely that’s because that’s where the majority of the world’s population is?
I have decided that my “novel” will have a sad ending. I just wrote it. Now to fill in all the middle bits…
Cake or death? (Referenced on the radio; have heard it before, though.) I don’t get it. Off to Google.
I am alive. Well, just barely. Ok, that’s just how I feel. My sinuses are killin’ me! I just told rosie in an email that my voice sounds like I’m goin’ through puberty.
Ok, I have had dsl and phone off and on and off and on for the past three days. It appears that of late yesterday afternoon that it’s fixed for good now. I thought it was last Thursday but nope. BellSouth/AT&T/whatever they are this week, finally discovered the problem up the road and fixed it, so they say.
On top of that, I’ve had to deal back and forth (thank Og for cell phones) with my mom and sis over my crazy uncle. We have an appointment/meeting with the Probate judge tomorrow which is a step in the process of having somebody declared incompetent. I hate this! I’m goin’ up in a little while to stay a couple days and deal with this, plus, I have a second interview at Warm Springs Thursday afternoon! So, appropriate and inappropriate appendage crossing would be much appreciated for that. I really, really, really hope my voice will be better. It should be better. I seem to do better when I’m up at mom’s. Whatever is buggin’ my sinuses does not seem as bad there. So, doggio Warm Springs ain’t killed me yet.
Speaking of Warm Springs, since I have nuttin’ to add to the OP right now, I’ll just be tacky. On Pine Mountain, near Warm Springs, there is this lookout place that has a cemented up bbq pit. It’s called Dowdle’s Knob. The spelling may or may not be right. Anywho, President Roosevelt liked to bbq there, so that’s why the pit is all cemented up with a little plaque on it that tells ya he liked to bbq there. Well, the reason we decided the bbq pit was cemented up was to keep all the poilo germs in there. I told y’all it was tacky!
I’ll attempt to check in a couple times but I won’t be back home before Saturday. So, now y’all know.
Swampy, they just put a beautiful statue of Roosevelt at Dowd’s Knob. He’s seated on a bench with room beside him for someone to sit, and his braces are on the outside of his pants which I understand was very rare IRL. There are still people in Pine Mountain Valley and Warm Springs whose parents worked at the Little White House in various capacities and who have very fond memories of him.
I just thought of something - did you go to LaGrange College?
Good luck on the second interview - all crossable appendages are crossed! It’s hard to type with crossed fingers!
We went to the dogpark. A Benji looking dog was barking at a lady who picked up his poop. Maggie stood around and watched the other dogs run. I cleaned the fridge, and Swiffered the kitchen floor, it was a tad sticky. Rod the Roomba is doing his thing now.
swampy, glad you survived Warm Springs.
LiLi, maybe the terrorists are afraid of your ninja husbands?
Hey taxi! I’m not sure where the nearest B&G’s is around here.
OK, I think it’s time we set up a MMP phone tree. I thought I had swampy’s number and I was going to call and see if he was alive till I saw he posted here, so that’s good. But still, we need to get organized (yeah, right) and share our phone numbers just in case. Who’s organized enough to suggest a way we could pull this off? See, I’m an idea person, but not an organized person…
My baby and future son-in-law will be coming to spend 2 weeks with us in July. YAY! She’s supposed to let me know the specific dates in a couple of days. <insert happy dance here>
And, what else? The check cleared for my first craft show, so I guess I’ve been accepted. So I guess I need to make more stuff since I need stock for 2 shows.
I was told that where I am now living is at the northern end of SoCal and the sourthern end of NoCal so really I am none the wiser…what I do know is I am 111 miles from LA
I have too much going on right now to organize anything, but a phone tree is a good idea.
So, Walgreens has big signs up all over the place “1 Hour Photo”. And, BD, (before digital) I would get my pix back very quickly. So I go in, at about 2:30pm, and drop off the 3 throwaways that were finished (I have about 8 shots left on the last one, Smokey sensed this and has been hiding from me) and the gal says “They’ll be ready after 7pm” says I. Apparently, “1 hour” only applies when the machine isn’t backed up and they have enough staff to clear out the finished photos quickly.
So, if the machine is backed up, and neede to be cleared out, why was she working in a different department of the store?
Whatever.
I took my poor little broken digital to the store where I bought it, and the nice man said “Samsung is the most efficient. They only have a 3 to 4 week turnaround, whereas the other companies start at 6 weeks and some take as many as 8” And it’s not like I will be needing it while I’m in the hospital (No, I will NOT take squicky pics of my knee. Tigs posted quite enough of those. Besides, if you really want to see them, there are plenty here) I decided I had no problem with waiting.
That is all
