On the minus side: I now know why yesterday wasn’t as crazed as most Moandays. A lot of the would-be callers took until today to figure out dialing a phone.
Got takeout Mexican on the way home. Didn’t feel like cooking, and DH’s raise seemed to call for celebrating.
I’m wondering if something’s going on around here - traffic this morning was much heavier than usual. Or maybe everyone just decided to drive slowly in front of me to piss me off…
It’s gonna be another busy one, so the day should go fast. I hope. Nothing exciting beyond that - OK, I get to fill the car on the way home today. rah.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 71 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 96 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Today’s agenda includes the layin’ in of provisions and a trip over to the church house to deal with stuff and haul the biiiiiiig trash cans all the way down to where they go for pickup tomorrow. Amongst the stuff to take care of is the assignment of a <snerk> church key <snerk> to our new music director/organist who commences doin’ that on Sunday. Have I mentioned that keeper of the keys is one of my duties? Sup shall be taco sallit. OLÈ!
doggio hope you find Gordie a sitter soonest.
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then, alas, alack, and bother, I must purtify and don appropriate bein’ about the public attire. Life can be so hard!
Dooggiioooo something is wrong with her if she doesn’t like **Gordie **. Best to find it out now. Wish I was closer I would stay with him. Don’t you have a roommate?
Up and at ‘em. It’s maid day so I have been doing the things before I leave for irk. I don’t wanna go to irk. End of the month so tons of stuff to do. Can’t Believe it’s August already,
I lost a day and thought today was Tuesday. Thanks Bear.
Another pretty day, getting ready to go out and do some yard irk.
I hope the blood suckers won’t be too bad this morning, I don’t know which is worse, getting eaten alive or the smell of Repel.
I need for my son to pull out the saw again, but I may wait on that.
None of my shady wild flowers are doing anything, so I have to figure out something for that section of the yard for next year. I’d like some lily of the valley, but I don’t feel too confident in my ability with them. I hear hosta is easy.
Ripple is at daycare so he won’t be able to ‘help’.
Sorry about the pet sitter Doggio, if I lived nearby I’d watch him.
**sari **- hosta are easy, and delicious to deer. If you lived near me, I could give you a bunch, but considering the cost of gas, it’d be cheaper for you to get some locally than drive to my place for freebies.
OK, youse guys gotta quit distracting me! I’ve got work to do!!!
I don’t have to worry about deer here.
I found one growing in the neighbor’s yard under all the weeds, since she doesn’t care what I do out there, I think I will dig it up and transplant it to my yard.
She also has a young rose of sharon that needs to be moved, it’s right next to the sidewalk. I want to move it but I don’t know to where. If I had known about it sooner, I wouldn’t have bought one and could have moved it to the center of the patio.
The yard makes me want to cry, two weeks of not irking out there and it is all too much. I don’t know where to start.
When I call my yard a jungle, I mean a* jungle*. Everything grows so fast, and I don’t know what kind of ground cover it is out there but it gets too tall and is invasive. The neighbor has some kind of nice ground cover, it doesn’t get much more than 3 inches high and is very dense, so it actually covers the ground. The ground cover in my side gets up to 8 inches or more. We can’t mow it, that is where the ground is sinking because a pond used to be there, and there are all kinds of bricks sticking out of the ground, and small river rocks everywhere. I put down rock that is 3-5 inches, no danger of hitting them with the mower. The rocks under the crappy ground cover are the one inch size. If the ground cover would stay in the depression, I’d let it be, but it spreads really fast and starts choking out my flowers. It has to go, it may be time to pull out the weed killer.
Which reminds me. the whole parking pad needs to be cleaned off, it is totally covered in ‘helicopters’. I hate those damn things, they stick to your shoes and get everywhere.
And there are maple saplings growing up through the honeysuckle on the fence. They need to be cut down.
At least the crepe myrtle is starting to bloom.
So why am I sitting here online when I have so much shit to do outside.
Speaking of sharp objects, I must vent just a bit about my spouse and her knife use. She uses a small paring knife for almost everything, including chopping vegetables. I’ve learned to just leave the room, as it makes me slightly crazy. She also liked to use my Shun knife to do things like cut the stems off of roses. I finally told her that that knife is off limits for anything but cookery. For those who are not familiar, Shuns are rather expensive knives with thin blades that are razor sharp. They are NOT used for other-than-food activities.
Now comes yesterday. We got back from a three day trip and didn’t feel like doing any food preparation, so dragged a Costco lasagna out of the freezer, which needed to be cut up. I normally do that using a cleaver and a hammer, which works well. Well, she decided to do the cutting and I wasn’t paying much attention. She comes into the room with a sheepish, I-did-something-bad look and shows me the Shun, which now has the tip broken off. WTF!? She was trying to stab at the lasagna (don’t ask) and somehow bent the knife and broke it off. On top of that, we couldn’t find the piece of metal anywhere, so the entire chunk of lasagna went into the trash.
The knife is still usable, and I don’t feel like spending $150 for a new one, so I’ll just live with the ugly. Thanks for letting me vent.
Howdy all. Again I was stricken by the activity bug again and spent the morning shopping and other errands, so late in MMP’ing. Warm outside but no rain (clouds however) yet.
Cookie, go ahead and vent. Best to keep it away from the other knives, where a careless hand won’t automatically reach for it.
Sari, I’d say happy yardwork but you might sic Ripple on me… Hope things work out.
doggio, I’d volunteer to dog-sit but from N. Ali-bama I think the commute is just a little long…
No worries there. It has its own hard plastic sheath and lives in a drawer. All other knives are upside down in a knife block. But she confuses sharp with useful for all things, despite my argument that the cleaver is sharp, but I wouldn’t use it to dice onions.
Maybe if you were properly traumatized first? Whadda you think Spidey — worth a shot?
Add me to the list of those who wish they were closer. Some of my best times in this house or neighborhood were pet-sitting. And dogs will always be my favorite children.
I didn’t get much done, just a bunch of weeding and trimming along the fence. It’s a double fence, wood on one side and chicken wire on the other, where the honeysuckle is, so it is hard to get in there to do anything. It takes two people to trim anything, one to pull the stuff through the fence and hold it while the other one cuts it.
I think if my son had his way he’d cut down everything, but I love honeysuckle and want to keep it. There is some other kind of vine growing in there that I don’t care about, but it is hard to cut it out because it is so entwined in the honeysuckle. I’ll work on that another day
I want my son to take out the leaf blower out to vacuum up the helicopters, but he is being lazy today.
What I really need is somebody who can identify some of the stuff out there so I know what is what.
I would pay somebody to come out and tell me. I have my wild flower books, but it is still hard to figure out what some of the stuff is.
I am debating, nap or more yard irk, or house irk.
Went to see the vampires today. Got a good tech and it was relatively painless. Of course I have a really prominent vein in the crook of my left arm that’s hard to miss, but sometimes I get someone who manages to get it wrong.
Heh! We had taco salad for dinner Monday too.
Yesterday I made wonton soup, except the bok choy I bought on monday turned out to be moldy, so i only got to use a little bit of it, and the won tons I bought were super spicy! (no, I don’t make my own won tons, they’re a pita to make.)
Tonight we’re having pizza and watching the debate. We missed part of last night’s debate 'cause I forgot it was on so early. Started at 5pm here.
I’m getting worried that the dems are gonna shoot themselves in the foot again. I keep hoping I’ll hear something to give myself some hope.
