There's a new Jack Chick tract, and boy is it a doozy!

Guin:

Oh, I found it. Laughable. He maintains that, since God says you may judge one particular thing, then you may judge all things!

Good grief.

That is quite possibly the stupidest thing I have ever heard of.

I am embarrassed to admit this…

But after all this time, hours, and whatnot, on these boards, [sub]I thought Jack Chick was some lurker/troll in other forums. [/sub]

Boy do I have egg on my face.
That confession aside, this JC guy has escaped from MAD magazine and Highlight’s Goofus and Gallant school of cartooning.

It’s like a car accident on the side of the road…you are compelled to watch…to see the carnage.

OOOOOOH, the name of his ministry is called **Of One Accord **

Apparently he drives a Honda. [rimshot]

Guin: Oh, and the Bible Truth site also called oral sex “sodomy”…

Actually, “sodomy” has long been used to refer not just to anal intercourse, but to various quote-quote “unnatural” sex practices including oral sex. Here in Rhode Island recently, we finally got the state legislature to throw out our old anti-sodomy law, described in this article:

Monty: So you read the Bible a lot. I dunno what that proves. I read the whole thing every (about) two months.
So?
I forget who asked, No, not read Narnia. Yes, HAVE read Potter.

From your comments on this issue, vanilla, it shows that you read the thing, but that I study it.

Perhaps you can see the difference.

And actually, the game has been apparently toned down from the original french version called “In Nomine Satanis”

I stopped reading this thread for a moment and went out to buy some things, amongst them a review, and it happens that there was an article on this exact topic in it.

It’s an interview of an egyptologist, the Pr. Yoyotte. Here are some abstracts, and I apologize in advance for the poor translation :

Q: What can be said about the Hebrew community in Egyptia before the exodus?

A : We have no tracks of them, while we have evidences proving the presence, in all the country of Cannaneans, Nubians and Lybians. But today, there is more interest for the Hebrews, and it is believed that they are of more interest, because the bible is one of the funding elements of our culture […]

It must be pointed out that the relations between the Hebews, then the Judeans with Egyptia aren’t limited to the pre-Moise era and didn’t end suddenly […] At the time of the Saite kings (VII° century BC), there still was an important Judean presence in Egyptia […]

[According to the scolars studying the bible], the existence of a man called Moise, whose name has an egyptian origin or is an evidence of a stay in Egyptia, and who played a fundamental part in the beliefs of his tribe or of his relatives can hardly be a mere invention. But the likehood of these adventures or events must ** be separated from the idea that these events would have been remarkables and would have been considered by the egyptians as an important moment in their history **

In answer to another question :

“By the way, let me point out that ** the figure given in the bible, 600 000 men and their families, is demographically utterly unbelievable **. From the point of view of the Egyptian history the adventure of Moise, the flight of the Hebrews is a non-event”

And later in the interview :

"Yes, I believe it could be admitted that a group of people, who called themselve Hebrews can have attempted to flee, and in a quite organized way. But a little group, some families, not 600 000 men and their families ** this figure would be roughly equivalent to the whole population of the [Nile] Delta **

In addition to which, wouldn’t the destruction of Pharaoh’s army (in the wake of plagues, no less!) create a power vacuum, leading neighboring countries to carve up Egypt?

Sorry, folks, but this thread is too long. I’m gonna have to shut it down, even if it HAS been fun.
