There's a new Jack Chick tract, and boy is it a doozy!

Yeesh, I knew that would happen. The site does a weird thing and changes the frame up the top so it scrolls to where the picture is in the whole tract.

I’ve written several letters to TSR complaining that my D&D books seem to be missing the sections on how to worship Satan. I’ve received only one reply. A paper that was blank except for the words “Haw Haw”

Unlike the Hebrews, the ancient Egyptians never, ever post negative or embarrasing stories about themselves. You think a lost of 3 million slaves, not to mention the huge embarrasments before and after to the Egyptians, would make it into hieroglyphics?

Oh, BTW, Jack Chick don’t know D&D at all. I wonder how he will react to the White Wolf series?

Ah yes, I too fondly remember my demon summoning days of D&D.

“Roll some dice to see if I’m getting drunk!”

What I find funny is that Chick charges like 13 cents for each of these things, when anyone could print them out for free.

Chick tracts make the script of an episode of Speed Racer look like Shakespeare.

My theory: Jack Chick is a secret double agent who is really allied with liberal humanist/non-fundie Christian organizations. He publishes these tracts both as a way of infiltrating fundamentalist cells with ideas that will push them over the edge, and to make fundamentalism look really, really absurd to any rational person. Chick is one of the great satirists of all-time–when it comes to religious satire, only the Landover Baptist Church even comes close–but now his cover is blown.

Forgot if he finds out about White Wolf’s World of Darkness. Imagine if he finds out about Steve Jackson Games In-Nomine.

On the In-Nomine mailing list people speculate on his reaction to the core book. There is also a write up of Jack Chick In-Nomine somewhere out there.

Like I said, my professor thought he was just trying to make a buck off of stupid people. Wouldn’t surprise me.

I like how the people in the tracts have never even HEARD of Christianity or what have you. Hheheheh…

Or should I say, HAW! HAW! HAW!

Citizen! The Computer says casting magic is treason! The Computer says knowing how to cast magic is treason! Not loving The Computer is treason! Do you love The Computer, citizen?

Does that mean that God hates the Washington Monument, too?

Good point, Superdude. One has to wonder about an American who doesn’t even know the name of the obelisk is Washington Memorial. Heck, I grew up in the shadow of the thing and NEVER heard it called the Washington Monument.

Oh, and I wonder how ol’ Jack Chick would like to hear the etymological breakdown of his word for deity or even the Hebrew word for same?

Was that directed at me? My only defense is that it’s early, and I haven’t finished my morning Mountain Dew® yet.

Nope, Superdude. Relax. Swill some nice peach-flavoured herbal tea. Avoid that caffeine dose.

Against my better judgment, I hauled off and checked out the book about Islam the Chick site is touting. But I checked it out on Amazon.com. That site has a nine pages from the book so I, again against my better judgment, read all of them. The American author(s) got the name of the Washington Monument wrong in the “modern parable” part.

Sheesh. I now have a headache AND it’s not even time for the first class of the day. Sheesh[sup]n[/sup].

Well, I don’t know, capacitor. I don’t claim to be an expert on ancient history. I posted a quote from an encyclopedia article I had read, which presumably used several historical sources. I have no reason to believe it’s not accurate. If you do, how about a cite? Y’know, a little factual info, instead of a drive-by sniping?

Seriously, I don’t have an agenda here. If my information is incorrect, I’d like to know.

Well, this is a tiny hijack, but if Vanilla is concerned about the evil influence of literature, she should definitely keep her kid away from the Bible. It has a man offering his virgin daughters to be raped (Genesis 19:8); the death penalty for masturbation (Genesis 38:9-10);God commanding mass murder (Joshua 6:17-21), and so on.

The Harry Potter books, on the other hand, teach the triumph of good over evil; the importance of friendship; and that loyalty, courage, and hope will help you persevere.
I know which message I prefer.

Jack Chick’s tracts are evidence of something I’ve noticed; often, the more overtly religious a person is, the less compassionate and empathetic he/she is. For every Mother Teresa, whose faith impelled her to live Jesus’s command to care for the least of her brethren, there are a dozen Jack Chicks or Osama bin Ladens, who obey a dark and bloody god of fear and vengeance. The born-again Christians who sponsor anti-gay legislation; the Orthodox Jews who stone cars on the Sabbath; the Muslims who crash planes into buildings in the name of Allah, they are the true fruit of centuries of religious hatred.

When I mention my fear of religious people to Christians, I never get a response, “Gobear, God loves you anyway, and I pray that someday you, too, will know God’s redemptive love.” Generally, the response is, “You’re going to hell, you God-hating homo,” or, “atheists are destroying America,” which, in my eyes, only demonstrates my point.

When you think about it, the story of Jesus is wonderful: that God so loved a suffering humanity that He sent His Son to redeem them from their sins through His death on the cross and resurrection from the tomb. The idea of being cleaned from anger and hate by the agency of the Holy Spirit’s divine mercy and love is beautiful. But I never see that in Jack Chick tracts, or in most Christian teaching. It’s always, “submit to God or burn in Hell,” as if Christians believe in a Divine Thug. Do you wonder that I refuse to join?

Languages of Afghanistan- Daree and Pashtu. Not sure about the correct spellnig of the first one, the second one I think is of the main ethnic group. Something I read a long time ago in a World magazine.

BTW, I agree with some of the posters that this tract is not Jack Chick’s best(worse?). No hell, no devil jesuits, it was pretty mild compared to others.

Now, imagine a tract about Harry Potter and Wiccas? That should be more interesting.

"For every Mother Teresa, whose faith impelled her to live Jesus’s command to care for the least of her brethren . . . "

—Oh, don’t get me started on that evil, hunchbacked Albanian dwarf. There have been several threads about how she never actually TREATED anyone in her so-called “hospitals,” and spent most of that donated cash to travel the world campaigning against divorce, birth control and abortion . . .

Hmm, can you hijack a hijack? (Hi, Jack!)

Be careful there, now.

I’m Born-Again.

There are plenty of Orthodox Jews who never stooped for that stone.

Loads of Muslims wouldn’t even think about mass murder.
I’ll assume you’re talking about hate-filled extremists, but when you get on the subject of religion, it’s best if you make that clear, or you’ll inadvertantly step on a lot of toes.
