These are a few of my favourite things

I’m having a crap week and would appreciate a little help in the Cheering Up Department.

Talk to me about the things that make you happy.

I may be depressed and stressed out, but I’m open to suggestions.

Sorry about the crap week…

I like reading…there’s a comfort books thread over in IMHO that has a lot of good suggestions (including all mine, so I didn’t post to it).

Chocolate & ice cream are always good too, or even just being inside and warm & dry & watching it rain hard outside…but you need to be in the right mood for that, otherwise the rain makes you miserable.

Mmmmmm, yes…chocolate and ice cream. And I like rain, too, especially thunderstorms.

Laying in a hammock in the backyard, just looking up at the sun filtering through the trees, and listening to the sounds of birds and other wildlife. A great de-stresser after work.

Looking at mountains, and vast expanses of land…I start to think about just how big the planet is, yet how small it is on a universal scale. The fact that I can live out my comparatively insignifcant life among it all puts me at ease, odd as that may seem.

dodge_this, sometimes when I feel like crap, I start to think about what I’m dealing with, versus the overall quality of my life. I then compare my “problems” with those that are faced by a large part of humanity, and mine don’t seem that horrible after all.

As I get older, I also realize that somehow, some way, things usually find a way of working themselves out. You just have to ride it out. Dealing with the bullshit is what makes us stronger in long run, and what allows us to savor the good times even more.

I love rain, especially when there is no end in sight. What? I live in Arizona. I like it when it isn’t 115 degrees outside in April.

I love Disneyland. The magic just wins me over and I get all warm and fuzzy inside.ºoº

Talking to you guys always cheers me up.

And if all else fails, I talk to my non-board friends. They can always help me when I am down.

Shoes and ships and sealing wax,
And cabbages, and kings,
The sea (why is it boiling hot?)
And pigs (do they have wings?)…

These are a few of my favorite things.

the Walrus

There is a small pond in the botanic garden on my campus that I walk past on my way to class every day. There is a statue of a heron in the middle of the pond, and the turtles in the pond climb up onto the base of the statue to sun themselves on nice days. The turtles are so cute, they always make me smile.

Daffodils everywhere! I love daffodils because they are the first flowers of spring. That explosion of yellow lifts my spirits immeasurably.

Wimmens
MAS*H-esque wit
Driving around in my friend’s 65 mustang. woo.
Doing something secretively. (is that a word?)
Punk rock shows.
Singing at them shows.
Calling up UCLA radio on thursday nights and requesting all the music I like. They get few calls, I once got 7 of the songs I requested played back to back.
My sane friends, as opposed to the insane ones.

Clean sheets on my bed
Green lights on my way home from work
Seeing a baby breast feed
Butterflies
A sunny day
A rainy day
A sunset
Picnics in bed
Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate
Ragtime piano music
Amaretto sours

Not necessarily in this order

There are many others - but this is enough for now.

warm sunny days
sunlight on the river
birds
lemon candy sticks
nestles milk chocolate
soft cotton
daffodils
gerber daisies
fast cars
fiddle & banjo music

I forgot music. Of course, you might find some of it depressing, but I don’t. Alternative is like that. I do like Glenn Miller, though. String of Pearls makes me think dreamy thoughts. Mmmm…

TN*hippie - I like that book. It is my fave. Hey, I’m crazy, so I feel it fits.

Mercutio - You mean you have sane friends? I am going to have to get some of those…Do you want another insane one, though?

Godiva dark chocolate truffles

Watching the sun set over the Pacific

Chocolate covered strawberries

Curling up with a good book

The smell of freshly mowed grass

A good dose of puppy love: there’s nothing like seeing a dog’s whole body wag because they are happy to see you …puppy kisses are a must when I’m upset

A good rousing thunderstorm: gotta be loud enough to rattle the windows

Fireflies

A purring kitty on your lap

The smell of the air the day after it rains
