Well, I guess new door locks would only keep them out for so long.
I went out to my car this morning to go to work, and saw that my door wasn’t shut tight. I thought maybe I had left my door open all weekend and my battery was dead, but when I got in, I saw the cause. My thieving neighbors had finally succeeded in stealing my car stereo. And a mix cd of children’s music (backed up on the computer, and so not lost), all of the good coins out of my change cup (they left the pennies) and some bandaids out of my emergency kit. Oh well.
Its funny how ok I am with this. My car is not great, but the stereo was the best thing about it, and I am sad that it is gone. But, its funny that they apparently cut themselves doing it, hence the bandaids, and that they spurned my lowly pennies, and that they stole (on purpose, from its jewel case) dumb kids music, not any of the better music on the visors, and that buying new locks was a waste. They also did a very professional removal job, wires bundled neatly in place.
I think, all in all, the real tragedy was that my hair elastic broke on the way to work. Thats going to throw my whole day off.
I’m sorry to hear about your loss. It is very discomforting to have your personal space violated like that. If you strongly suspect a certain individual, I recommend calling the police. That may not resolve anything, but it is worth a shot.
Are you sure that it’s your neighbours? Have they done (or attempted) this before? Better than new locks I think would be an investment in some sort of wireless security camera that transmits to your home PC from the driveway, and have your home PC record the goings-on from within. Add some bait (a new stereo, maybe a big sign saying “NEW STEREO” in the window) and catch 'em in the act, which it appears they are bound to do. It might cost you another stereo if they manage to fence it before the cops catch 'em, but it’ll be the last stereo they steal for some time.
Oh yes, it had to be someone around the apartment complex. I’ve moved my regular parking space, gotten new locks (the ones it had were inoperable), never leave the faceplate on, and they still got it. They had to know I never use my car on the weekends, so I wouldn’t notice. In my previous thread about the break-in attempts, they only tried at night, and apparently were interrupted twice.
I guess this is a message to me - sell my old clunker (but it still passes smog! and gets 24 miles to the gallon!) and put the money into keeping up my husband’s much newer and more reliable clunker.
Hmm, back to the bus. In the summer. Bleh. At least I’ll probably slim down from all the walking.
Anybody need an 89 Sentra? No a/c! No radio! Brand-spanking-new starter system!
Well, not really. I’ll probably sell it to my teenage sister, who can buy her own stereo.
