They finally made a sequel and it SUCKED!

***Jurassic Park ***was good. Jurassic Park II…wasn’t.

3 wasn’t bad, though.

The Aladdin sequel and TV series were seriously meh. I never saw Lion King 2, but Lion King 1/2 is excellent - not really a sequel as it recounts the events of the first movie as seen through different, and very funny, eyes.

Among other things, it throws a whole new interpretation on the opening number, where the animals appear to bow down to the new prince…

It is not as good as Chinatown. But The Two Jakes is a pretty decent movie.

The opposite: after years and years, J. R. R. Tolkien finally came out with a sequel to his children’s book The Hobbit. It did not pale by comparison to the original.

I thought Planet of the Apes was great. The next four ranged from so-so to sucked ass.

Surprised nobody’s mentioned Return to Oz. It came 46 years after the original and is barely remembered, for good reason. It may have had its own merits, but I wouldn’t know. I saw it once when I was much younger and remember being so terrified by it that I’ve still never seen it again. The first one had scary-ish stuff for a young’n, but Jeebus Cripes was that sequel scary to me! I would watch it if it were ever on TV, but I’m not going to go out of my way for it.

Dammit, I liked Return to Oz. They tried to balance the impossible, being true to both the books and the spirit of he 1939 movie, and I thought they managed it. They also had some great underappreciated effects work by the underappreciated Will Vinton.
For my money, it doesn’t belong in this thread. Even if you don’t love it, this isn’t suckitude of the magnitude of The Sting II

Was Psycho II any good? I saw it in the theater and honestly can’t remember, so maybe that’s my answer.

I agree. It’s highly under-rated. True, it just doesn’t have the glory of the original, but it didn’t suck.

I admit it was a little scarier than the original, in places.

I thought it was alright, too. Not anywhere close to as good as the original, but certainly not a waste of the rental fee or time taken to watch it. I do think the alternate endings were all better than the one they actually used, though. But I even managed to like the Star Wars prequels, inferior to the original trilogy as they are, so what do I know?

If you only think that #2 sucked, you never saw The Source. In a lot of ways it manages to be as bad, if not worse, than #2. I mean, at least #2 had some production values. Some of the scenes in the Source look so bad you’d think they were shot for a CD-ROM based computer game circa 1995. Granted, I’ve only seen this one in SciFi channel’s edited for TV version, but I really doubt it’s any better on DVD.

Jaws was awesome.

Then there was Jaws 2, and Jaws 3D. Horrible…

No. No. No. NO.

Return to Oz

If you have seen this piece of blasphemy*, then you know EXACTLY what I mean.

If you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favor, and don’t.

*Not the word I wanted to use.

I agree. Return was a lot darker then Wizard but it did actually draw from some of the Oz Book sequels. In some ways, it’s a lot closer to the books, like at the end when you see the characters again and they look a lot like their book counterparts(not to mention the lion being a real lion and not a guy in a costume).

But then again, I got a real kick out of Wicked. If they ever make a movie out of it, it’s going to be interesting to see if they draw more from the book(which is better developed) or the musical(Better songs, less homoeroticism and tiger rape).

Speed II - this time it’s glacial.

The ads for Wicked “what came before” are disingenuous. Wicked has nothing whatsoever to do with the Wizard of Oz, it is not in any way a prequel. It’s more like a sick parody.

Didn’t see that someone else posted it.

It needed to be posted twice. More than twice frankly.

Does Cube 2: Hypercube count in this thread? it was 5 years since the first.

Cube Zero, the third (prequel) installment however is light years better than 2. It would be better than the original, if it didnt make so many references to the first.

I rather liked Cube 2, though it does feel a bit out of place with the other two. It did have some really nice special effects though, and perhaps some of the more memorable traps in the series- the time warp, the glass(?) blocks, and especially, the flying and slicing tesseract.

I’m hoping they keep this series going.

Can someone please tell me what’s wrong with it?
