Worst non-ST/SW sequel

Nominate what you think is the worst sequel to a movie other than Star Trek or Star Wars. I would absolutely nominate Jaws 3 for this dubious honor were it not for the incredible fact that someone made a Jaws 4. Your pick?

I’ve never been a fan of the original Highlander and I haven’t seen Highlander 2, but I’ve never seen so much venom expressed for a movie in my life.

I would say Alien3, because IMO, it took what was really set up well in Aliens and destroyed it, giving nothing but a third-rate horror movie in return.

In the Die Hard and Indiana Jones trilogies, the second installments were both particularly loathsome. The originals are two of my favorite movies of all time, and the third installments are very good, but the middle ones just blow.

They made a sequel to “Carrie” that was went straight to video, which might tell you something.

In terms of audience wraith, “Highlander 2” probably deserves the nod. I’ve seen neither movie, but the bile was pretty explosive.

Smokey and the Bandit II
Porky’s II: The Next Day
Superman IV: The Quest for Peace
Friday the 13th, Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan
Arthur 2: On the Rocks
Batman and Robin

Robocop II stunk on ice, compared to the original. I also was not a fan of the 3rd Mad Max film (Beyond Thunderdome). They really didn’t do anything new plotwise, and the bad guys were no where near as scary as those from either of the first two films. I mean, Tina Turner is scary, but she’s not that scary.

Oh, and how could I forget:

A Very Brady Sequel

Greg and Marsha smooching … ew!!!

It certainly did not. It was released theatrically, and only did about $7 million its opening weekend. It did about $18 million in total box office. It was a flop, but it wasn’t a straight-to-video release.

STOP SAYING IT! STOP SAYING THAT NAME!!!

It never happened, okay? There was no sequel to Highlander. How could there have been? I mean, the original movie clearly stated that “there could be only one”, so what on earth could the sequel have been about? What, some stupid story about all the immortals actually being aliens from Zeist where they still had earth names though and then fighting to remove MacLeod’s stupid anti-ultraviolet shield from earth’s skies so everybody can see the stars again ***I DON’T THINK SO.
:twitch twitch:

Never ^$$£%" happened. That’s an end on it.

But compared to Robocop III, II was absolutely wonderful.

Anyway, the biggest stinker of a sequel was Alien 4.

That’s right. And there certainly wasn’t a third Highlander. That would be preposterous.

Grease 2 - Any movie that features Adrian Zmed AND bowling is gonna suck

Superman 3 & 4 - A waste of Richard Pryor’s talent. I can only hope the check was big enough. And what the hell was with that solar powered guy?

All Alien sequels. There someone had to say it.

Indiana Jones 2 - annoying, smart-mouthed kid = sucky sequel

I’m sorry, but I’m probably the only person alive that likes TEMPLE OF DOOM a hell of a lot more than the LAST CRUSADE. C’mon, the Walk of Faith? THAT’S the finale?

You are insane. Aliens is one of the greatest films (of any kind) ever made. Alien³ wasn’t as bad as everyone says, but Resurrection was absolutely awful.

The first Tremors was a fantastic film (produced by Gale Ann Hurd, producer of Aliens & Cameron’s ex) but the sequel After Shocks (not produced by GAH) was pathetic.

Ouch! The pain! I saw that at the $1 threatre, which reminds me…

Poltergeist 3- Ooh, that was bad. It’s never a good sign when a movie opens at the second-run $1 theatre.

Rocky II III IV and the in work Rocky V which stinks even before the script is finalized.

In the original, you didn’t see the Alien much (for suspense and, yes, budget, reason). In the first sequel, they blew the effin’ budget on the damned things.

I never did like The Naked Gun 2-1/2: The Smell of Fear much.

You forgot “and they only came to earth a few thousand years AFTER Sean Connery received the sword from the ancient blacksmith in the first movie”.

That’s because the original was a horror movie. The second one was an action movie.

Yeesh, did you go see The Matrix expecting to be scared?
