It’s darker, and it has no music in it, and I think that freaks some people out. But it’s perfectly good Baum, and it’s consistent with other adaptations (like the one broadcast on Shirley Temple’s show on TV in the early 1960s) You’d only think it an abomination, I think, if your only exposure to Oz was the 1939 movie.
