They have remade "The Longest Yard"???

With Adam Sandler in Burt Reynolds role???

The movie Gods are squirming.

This isn’t the first time. A few years ago, a British remake of The Longest Yard came out, only focusing on soccer instead of football. It was called Mean Machine, and starred Jason Statham and Vinnie Jones, well-known for their roles in British crime caper films Snatch and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels.

I don’t see a problem there. Sandler may only have an ounce of acting ability, but it’s 1 ounce more than Burt ever did.

Now you know why they had the unbelievably stupid, awkward and offputting “spontaneous” pairing of Chris Rock and Adam Sandler at the Oscars.

Not true. He has done some fine work (Boogie Nights, anyone?), as well as his early comedies in the 70’s. Lay off Burt!

And Sandler has never been cool, whereas Reynolds will always be cool!

But this movie is sure to suck, I have no doubt. It’s a damn shame that Burt needs work so badly that he’s in it…

No, the Movie Gods may be squirming, but only because it has become obvious that their decision to withdraw all creativity and new ideas from Hollywood is NOT leading anyone to repent, confess, and start worshipping them right…

I don’t think it’s the acting ability. It’s Adam Sandler playing a pro quarterback.

Holy sweet Peaches Crist, you’d think Burt Reynolds was Robert Deniro.

I am a huge fan of Burt Reynolds. His interview with Barbara Walters (circa 1993) when he was crashing was a classic.

As I said he is one of my favorite “stars” for many reasons. And for a few years he was the biggest box office star in movies.

But let’s get real. After Boogie Nights, Sharky’s Machine, Deliverance, the one he made with Jill Clayborg, Smokey and the Bandit I, he has appeared in more bad movies than any major star in history.

And remember, Il like the guy!

A remake of a low budget 1974 film 30 some years later is not going to rock the “movie gods”

Remember – between “Shark’s Machine” 1981 and "Boogie Nights’ 1997, even with his sitvcom in the early 90s, he was the butt of many jokes for bad choices.

And one more thing. “The Longest Yard” was a cool movie, but it wasn’t “The Godfather”

Adan Sandler can not, and will not wreck the remakee.

Trivia queastion – How does the word wreck fit into the original movie and my assement of the remake.

Props for remembering the original.

I may be way off, but it’s something along the lines of Burt’s character’s last name was Crue, and therefore his team became the “Wrecking Crew.”

However, I disagree with your assessment of Sandler playing a pro football player. (But I withhold judgement about the movie, who knows maybe they changed the plot and Sandler plays an ex-professional seamstress or something - I’m reaching at straws to justify the use of “Yard” in the title and not have it pertain to football…)

Trailers available here.

I dunno…looks like it might not suck. <shrug>

Just think of it as The Waterboy goes to jail.

Correct! The Wrecking Crew.

I agree, Sandler doesn’t exactly look the part of a football player. But maybe there will be a new angle or twist to the character, and the entire story.
