They made a sequel to that!?!

And this is bad how? I loved the original, and it did pretty well at the box office. Admittedly, I don’t think it could be as good, but it has to be better than all the sequels for American Pie.

Mason Dixon? Seriously?

Someone needs to be permanently breadlined. Honest to Og…

I vauguely recall there being a sequel to “The Last Seduction,” perhaps titled “the Last Seduction, and This Time We Mean It!

Conversely, I must have missed the full title of a movie that had no sequel: “Remo Wiliams: The Adventure Begins…and Then Just Sort of Lies There.”

Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2

Released five years after Baby Geniuses … both films with name actors … both films given wide theatrical release … both films earning a 0% rating at Rotten Tomatoes …

Now that’s something special.

Truth be told, I haven’t seen either of them, so I’ll grant that it’s possible I’m being grossly unfair to a pair of widely misunderstood gems … but probably not.

I’m not sure why that fits in this thread. It wasn’t a bad movie, or a bomb, and it wasn’t a work of art that stands alone, only to be diminished by sequels.

Furthermore, Sin City is based on a series of comic books and graphic novels, so there are already several interlacing stories told with the same characters. The first movie combined the first, third, and fourth Sin City stories by Frank Miller, but the second story (“A Dame To Kill For”), takes place before the first chronologically. It teams up Marv (Mickey Rourke, who died in the first story/movie) and Dwight (Clive Owen), so it will almost definitely be the centerpiece for the second movie.

Sin City was a remarkable adaptation and a great film – and there’s enough extant source material for another installment.

Seems natural enough.

For me, when I read the OP, the first movie that came to mind was The Stepford Wives. First the wives sought Revenge, then The Children and The Husbands got their own movies.

Heck this was all before Frank Oz decided to do a campy darkly comic remake.

Cruel Intentions 2

It’s called Cruel Intentions 2, yet it’s somehow the prequel to Cruel Intentions. Contains none of the actors from the original. I think this is where the series turned into softcore porn.

Cruel Intentions 3

I don’t think this one even tried to recycle any of the characters, let alone the actors. Probably more softcore porn.

I know Disney has been guilty of making sub-standard direct-to-video sequels to its recent films such as Lion King and Aladdin but I was surprised to learn of Cinderella II.

Ugh. I would have thought that Disney would have more sense than to devalue a strong brand with such dreck. The songs are inane, the story uncompelling, and the animation quality has more in common with Scooby-Doo than the original Disney films - bland backgrounds, characters’ eyes moving separately from the rest of their heads, the works.

There was no compelling artistic reason to continue the story in place of “happily ever after”, but I have seen it done successfully in films like Shrek II. This, however, was nothing more than a cash-in. The sad thing is that my kids seemed to enjoy it on a par with the original and clearly the money men understand that kids aren’t discerning enough to spot the drop in quality.

On the positive side, I have heard that there are more sensible artistic decisions afoot at Disney, as a Dumbo sequel and Toy Story III both seem to have been quashed.

Disney farms direct-to-video sequels out to its TV division, which, judging from the animation quality, is made up of retired Hanna-Barbera animators.

Baby Geniuses 2.

What were they thinking?!

Here’s the trailer for Titanic Two the Surface

It’s a joke, but very well done.

There are at least two Aladdin sequels. Aladdin II: the Return of Jaffar was decent enough. It set up the animated series that came out around that time. (The movie introduced the villain Abys Mal, and it explained why Iago was now hanging out with the good guys.) I never saw the third one. Maybe I’ll add it to my Netflix queue.

So many unanswered questions…

I am somewhat surprised no one has mentioned Basic Instinct 2: Risk Addiction. I’ll take it that you weren’t aware of its existence, which I can only assume is a good thing.

I actually kinda liked Return of the Livinf Dead, but didn’t think it great. It spawned a sequel with the dumbest name since “The Neverending Story II”, Return of the Living Dead, Part Two. There was a Part 3, too.
I’m still amazed that there was a sequel to They Call me Bruce:

called They Still Call me Bruce:

ERven more astonishing, Bruce Campbell has taken the title for a movie he’s making right now:

It’s actually pretty good, with an “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves” tale woven in, and Robin Williams returns to be the voice of the Genie. Worth a look.

Well, it had darkmantles in it. Anyone know what edition those got made up for?

Apparently there’s a coupla sequals to Mortal Kombat. Now, the first Mortal Kombat definitely isn’t good, but it’s okay, escapist fun. Enjoyable enough way to spend a lazy afternoon (so long as it’s on TV - please don’t pay for this). I’ve only seen small parts of (I believe) the second one, and it’s neither okay, nor fun, nor enjoyable enough. “Awful,” I think, pretty much covers it.

I too was amazed to see posters for Scary Movie 4 (Especially since the tagline for the first one was “No Mercy, No Shame, No Sequel”). I recall there was a Scary Movie 2 with Tim Curry in it, but a third one? A fourth? Smegging hell.

Apparently there’s a Species 2, an American Psycho 2, and several Wild Things sequels (all of which can safely be considered softcore porn, I’m reliably informed), too…
