Heck, there’s a species III. No accounting for taste.
There are five “sequels” to The Howling! Actually, only the first one is a sequel – the others don’t have any plausible connection to the first two, except in having werewolves.
Even the movie Xtro has two sequels. Zapped had a sequel!!
Bambi 2. Why? For that matter, what’s the Disney obsession with one-parent homes?
Maniac Cop also had sequals. I liked them, though. Especially since Bruce Campbell showed up in them. They also have Robert Z’Dar, who’s a commendable fellow for his work ethic, if not his choice of roles.
Deathstalker…bleah! Except for the 2nd.
Also, why were there sequals to Beastmaster? The first one already took over TBS!
I’m not entirely sure why Gor was made. Sure, the books were successful dreck in the 1970’s but this film is late 1980’s vintage. But why they even bothered with Outlaw of Gor will never be explained. Simple tax dodges alone won’t suffice. I suppose we should be grateful that they didn’t film the 23 books that followed.
And yet Snow Crash still hasn’t been made. Maybe once Tiger Woods retires…
Cruel Intentions 2 is actually a failed TV pilot for a FOX series based on the original movie. It never aired and was sent to the “direct to video” market.
[slight hijack] Google for “horrible movie sequels” and basic instinct 2 is the first to pop up[/hijack]
the DragonCon TV folks are having a field day with Snakes on an Airplane and considering possible sequels. Things like SOAA meets Star Trek, Tribbles on an Airplane! Etc etc…
Actually, Shrek 2 was quite good in it’s own right, or at least I thought so. I mean, it hardly seems fair to pick on Shrek for not ending with “Happily ever after”, since there were so many fairy tales left to make fun of.
Besides, you know it was worth it to see Antonio Banderas spoofing basically every other movie he had ever been in.
Scary Movie 3 was pretty good, if for no other reason than Simon at the rapping contest and Leslie Nielson’s “Airplane” quote near the end.
Bah, hit send too soon. Cruel Intentions 2 is somewhat redeemed for having twins in a shower. cough Not that I’ve seen that movie or anything.
Also in the “I can’t believe they made a sequel to that!” category is Shock Treament, the follow-up to The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The sequel (which I think is a better movie than the first one, while the first is a better social experience) involves the entire town of Denton being a TV station, and Brad getting casted in a show about an insane asylum so the owner of the TV network can put the moves on Janet.
Different actors playing Brad and Janet and Betty Hapschat, Richard O’Brien, Patricia Quinn, and Nell Campbell (Riff Raff, Magenta, and Columbia from the first movie) now play the doctors and nurse at the insane asylum, Ralph Hapschat and No-Neck (now named Judge Oliver Wright) are played by the same actors as in the original movie. IMO, it’s worth paying the $6-10 the VHS goes for online, but then, I’ve been told I have questionable taste in movies.
And onto other sequels that didn’t need to be: Bring it On Again. Somehow I don’t think they took this one in the same logical direction that Cruel Intentions did (ie: Bring it On Again does not seem to be a porn flick, unfortunately).
Although The Titanic sequal is a joke, I should point out that one of the Titanic’s sister ships, the Brittannic, also sank (even though improvements were made after the Titanic sinking).
there was a NOVA about this http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/titanic/

Cinderella II is awful, bad, horrific–and so is Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World. If you have a little girl and don’t wish to subject yourself to this dreck, don’t ever mention it in her presence!
A lot of the movies mentioned totally fit. But the kids movies could possibly be explained as “it did well, all the kids will have to have it” Anything from Disney probably gets bought automatically by Mouse-loving parents. or maybe it’s more like “this time we’ll get it right”.
I mean, how do you pitch Garfield 2? It was a total flop, right? Unless it did well in DVD sales. Do we start blaming Blockbusters for buying so many to fill a false need?
“Yes the first one did horribly, but we believe the problem was the script. This time? This time we send our lovable feline to England! It’ll be hilarious!” blam
