They made a sequel to that!?!

There was also a TV movie.

Funny you should mention Highlander. I always used to scoff at the people on this board who like to pretend that Highlander II: the Quickening doesn’t exist. I’d think to myself, “the movie can’t possibly be as bad as all that.” One day, I finally decided to rent Highlander II to see what all the fuss was about.
Yep, it most certainly can be that bad.

nope, still a live dog

I like to pretend that the Highlander tv show doesn’t exsit…[shudder]…

I hear that the directors version of Highlander 2 is better than what was shown in theatres. I haven’t seen it myself but supposedly it makes more sense in the deirectors cut.

And Species 3 was another sequel made for Sci Fi network that they then released on dvd. I haven’t seen the whole thing because for some reason when it’s on tv I just can’t make myself watch it past the beginning.

Remember The Poseidon Adventure? Goofy film where a cruise liner flips over and Gene Hackman has to butch up and lead everyone out?

Sequel.

Seriously, why? I mean, what are they going to do? “Yep, it’s still a mess. Let’s walk around the hull for a while and then go home.”

Well to keep this thread on target, Highlander II makes sense. The first one was a fan favorite and probably did well in VHS sales and rentals. I mean once you get past the fact that they ended the story, the audience was there and it was commercially viable. But where did III come from?! Was it only because they said they could get Adrian Paul(?) (TV Highlander), that they thought it would do well?

I hate to shake your optimistic view of the human race, but the original pulled in almost $200 million worldwide while in theatres.

Ahem… Adrian Paul was the reason for Highlander IV a.k.a Highlander: Endgame. (and the in-production Highlander V, yes, 5. Highlander: The Source). Highlander III starred Lambert, and also Mario Van Peebles. I don’t think any of the Highlander sequels belong in this thread. Each had a purpose:
II: cash in on a moderately succesful cult movie that left a lot of ground uncovered
III: apologize for II by making something closer to I
IV: apologize for III, and feature both Highlanders together again for the first time since the TV series premiere. (The series was a moderate success, going for 6 seasons, and had a following that should’ve been able to support a low-to-mid-budget movie.)

With the Highlander sequels, the question isn’t “Why did they make them?” but “Why did they make them… like that???”

Nobody laughs at Rob Scheider.

Ever see Anaconda, with Jennifer Lopez? No? Lucky you.

Why this wretched botch of a movie inspired a sequel (Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid, without Jennifer Lopez) is beyond me. But just you wait and see: if Snakes on a Plane is a hit, we’ll probably get snake movies out the wazoo.

Let’s not forget the granddaddy of all unnecessary sequels: Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo

And with all the crap they’ve churned out over the years, I can’t believe we’re still waiting for Doctor Detroit II: The Wrath of Mom.

I remember when my friend told me about Doctor Detroit. I thought he was making it up until he showed me a trailer for it on an old video he had.

I also tend to think that Silence of the Lambs should just be the end of the series. I mean, Hannibal(the movie anyway), is just awful.
