Two weeks ago my cousin found her 19 yr.old son dead on the couch. They thought it was a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head at first, but after the forensics team got done, they found that the trajectory of the bullet was not that of someone shooting themself. Also, he had no powder residue on his hands.
So now they think it was murder.
There’s no word on any other evidence. Prints on the gun, or that type of thing. I do know that he hung out with a pretty wild crowd and that he was into drugs. Something may have gone wrong somewhere. Hopefully, they’ve got some leads, I don’t know.
The thing that worries me is that it’s a very rural area. The police there aren’t used to dealing with this kind of thing. I just hope and pray they don’t screw it up. Hopefully, the state police will get involved.
I want the scumbag who did this to pay. Sure, he was a kid with problems, (which is why they thought it was suicide at first) but he didn’t deserve this. I can remember him being born, I still have a hard time dealing with the fact that he’s gone.
Several years ago my 18(?)-year-old cousin was found dead in a car with two other young men and at least one gun. He had gotten involved in a gang, and I think they’re still not sure exactly what happened – whether it was a suicide pact, murder-suicide, or a triple murder. The three boys may have been involved in another previous murder as well. My cousin had been estranged from his family for several years, in and out of juvie, etc.
I still remember him as the smiling Campbell’s-kid-faced little boy in the family photos, the one who one Christmas gave each family an ornament he’d made – several cinnamon sticks tied with a red ribbon. I still grieve for that little boy every year when I hang his cinnamon on the tree.
It’s a very rural area. Even the county’s resources are quite limited. In fact, I’m suprised they even came to this conclusion. In most cases, they probably would have just thought suicide, and let it go at that. They must have thought something was up for them to even take the time to make sure. This (as far as I know) is the first murder in this town, and as far as the county, only the second since I’ve grown up there. They are just not used to dealing with this kind of thing.
Also, I hadn’t talked to my mother in almost a week, so they could have come up with this conclusion earlier than in the last couple of days. You’re right though, if they took to long to come to this conclusion, they could have a hard time finding the perp.
I’m dealing with his death. But the fact that someone did this to him and why is just driving me nuts.
