Yeah, but that particular activity isn’t limited to the Yonge bus. There just happen to be more bars along Yonge.
Yeah, Reagan is National. Was National.
I don’t think FCD’s booked his travel yet - hope he doesn’t take first flight in the morning.
When will your training be done? welby and susan - you up for Tuesday? What time works for you? Jump on in to this conversation!
I think my training ends at around 4:30 or 5:00. I’ll have to double-check that and post that tomorrow. The agenda for the class is at work, unfortunately.
Thanks for bringing up some nice memories.
When I was working on a Great Lakes freighter, we stopped at all manner of ugly places, so when we landed at Erie, PA, one day, and hopped off to spend an afternoon in town, it was very refreshing. Erie seemed to be right out of a Rockwell painting – a quiet, wholesome small town, with its library having a book and bake sale.
In Toronto, I spent more hours than I can count at the Bloor Street Cinema as a University of Toronto student minoring in cinema studies. This was back just before home video came out, there were no specialty channels on cable, and the University holdings were on 3 / 4 inch tape. Elwy Yost was giving live presentations every month over on Mt. Pleasant, Reg Hart was starting to make a name for himself, and the Bloor Street Cinema showed old and odd movies at a dollar per show.
Maybe later in the summer we PNW folk should get together and take the Victoria Clipper up for a day trip… Just a thought. Hubby and I went up for a weekend two years ago. We stayed at the Empress Hotel, but we didn’t sit for high tea.
The bridge in west Vancouver is the Lion’s Gate bridge. When we cruised to Hawaii, we left late. The ship cleared the bottom of the bridge by only 3 feet. The cruise ships are supposed to go under it only at low tide. Another half hour, and we would have had to wait another day to leave.
welby, what are the birds? They’re beautiful!
It’s late (for me, at any rate), but I wanted to stop in and say hi… Looked through some of the pictures - cool. Have to invent a database tonight so that we can model some cost stuff. The only reason I’m in good spirits is that I had a lovely, action-packed weekend.
My only comment on anything right now is: How come it didn’t occur to any of us that welby would be the guy with the Trader Joe’s bag?
Gotta go model (no, not that kind of modeling)…
GT
Well, look at all the fun you folks have had while I was making a living today!
Trip to Canuckland looks fun. I wish I had a butter tart (would the butter not melt, so you put in a tart? hee)
I am not sure about LARPs–I’ll have to go back and study them some more.
Off to bed. Plasterer #2 comes on Wednesday. Tomorrow is clean the house day (blah).
Mn - you know when you have those weeks that literally pass by in a blur? Well I appear to have lost half of April so today as May 1st was a bit of a surprise.
Anyways I had my last birf-day of my 20’s a couple weeks ago and went down to Houston to visit some friends as all my alleged WY friends couldn’t fit my birf-day into their schedules but they could do a BBQ-at my house -the following weekend-between the hours of 1-3PM-I would have to do the prep & cleaning oh and it was month end and I was on call for work but it fit into their schedule so why did I have a problem???
Nice friends.
So I went and shopped and bought 4 pairs new shoes and spent $150 at Bath & Body Works and ate and drank and my friends new kitty took a huge likeing to me and gave me loves and slept purring in my ear all weekend and also wouldn’t get out of my suitcase so I could pack.
I wanna kitty but my apartment doesn’t allow pets :pouts & whines:
Nice MMP welby very nice
my aunt had a mini schnauzer who wore diapers becuase she was really excitable and kinda stupid and never quite caught on to the house training thing.
but cute. very cute.
welby and lissla, looks like a good time! I like the t-shirt dress.
I want to go for a walk (and my little dog, too!) but it’s all rainy out. I think I’ll watch movies and maybe sleep instead. I don’t need to be hanging out in the rain in the middle of the night a week and a half before the play.
Oh! and I’ve discovered a fairly useless skill! I got bored with my boring livejournal, so I fiddled around and created my first ever livejournal layout. I’m unreasonably proud of it. I still think the background may be too busy, but that’s easy to change.
Anyway. off to watch movies and maybe sleep.
Hey it’s raining here too.
Just in from collecting the Bus Kid at OHare and being reminded why I fly from Midway when I must fly. She was in San Diego visiting The Marine. Her original flight was a stopover in DFW, but that got cancelled, and she ended up on a non-stop (yay) to O’Hare (BOO) instead. It was originally scheduled to land at 8 something, but made it in finally at 10:06. I knew the delay was happening, so Wife & I didn’t have to sit at the airport for more than 20 minutes or so, but THEN the airline not to be named (but named for a couple of continents in this hemisphere…) decided her luggage would be best left on her original flight.
She gets it tomorrow sometime.
As consolation, we stopped for wings & beer (iced tea for the minors) on the way home. They can live without me for a couple hours in the morning, that’s what I say.
dot, I like the layout, but I’m a cat guy, so it’s all good to me.
That worked for me. Once I had a dog name in mind (“Clover”) and started idly pointing out puppies that “look like she could be a Clover”, I was there.
We have a dog now.
(I have the chewed furniture, shoes and fingers to prove it.)
What about rocks and dried moss and grass clumps from mowing? Clover likes sticks, leaves, and very much rocks, moss, grass, and bugs.
And socks. And hair scrunchies. Especially if I’m wearing one. She pulls it out of my hair, even if it’s a challenge. I think it means *mum, it is SO not the 80s any more. *
Misty does have this cool pig toy that oinks. It’s kinda interesting to be sitting in my office and hear oink noises. The game seems to be to back up, take a running start and leap on the pig to make it oink. It’s fun to watch her do it! I think it’s gonna be tough when Misty stops coming to work everyday.
Today, I get to line up more summer jobs. Also, I get to fuss at parents, guardians, etc. who have not returned the necessary stuff so that their child can get a work permit. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you want your child to work this summer but you can’t be bothered to do what’s needed so your child can go to work.
Hi gang! Great OP, Welby! I’ve only skimmed the entire thread, but I hope everybody is healthy and happy.
What a hell of a weekend. It was so rough, I took Monday off from work as well as my regular Friday off.
Dad’s all moved in. My brother was here to help, which was a definite blessing! I didn’t have to do any heavy lifting. Just packing. And unpacking. I redecorated the bathroom for him. It looks pretty good!
We have blinds on order that should be in this week. I waited until he got here to get curtains, and went shopping at THREE stores yesterday. Nuthin’. So poor dad has sheets tacked up on his windows… I think I might have found some in JC Penney’s catalog.
I’m back at work today. Resting. And dad said he’s cooking dinner tonight! Woo-hoo!
Happy, Tuesday, y’all.
Tuesday definitely works for me. As for restaurants - I am open to anything. Just pick a place, and I will show up.
Susan
I read restaurants as restraints. It’s very funny in my head. Sorry, susan.
Last night, I did none of the chores I meant to, ordered pizza instead of making dinner, and went to bed at 9:30. So there.
That’s one of the main reasons I do it. Unfortunately, people at work don’t like it when you smack them for being idiots, so I save up my smacking for practices and events. Four to 6 hours of hitting people and I’m ready to go back to work.
Sure, I’ll geek out about any part of the game. The weapon in my right hand is a flail, the only head legal weapon in the game. The head is 6" couch bolster crammed into a 3" fabric “sock”. The chain portion is more fabric wrapped with clima-tube “chain links”. This makes the weapon safer to use, since it is harder to accidentally wrap it around someone’s neck. The handle is the handle from a dustpan cut down to size. I use these becasue it makes it easier to hold the weapon and manipulate it. Many people use PVC instead.
In my left hand is a short spear. The core is a dowel rod for a closet. The tip is a cut down nerf football covered in fabric. The football shape gives is a better point and allows me to slide the weapon between sheilds and what-not when fighting.
I’m not sure who’s who, the welbywife wrote them down somewhere. They’re all from the National Aviary. It’s a really well done place. I did feel bad for the eagles though. I know they’re all injured and can’t fly and stuff, but they looked so sad sitting there.
I’ll reserve my opinion on that. I won’t say :wally .
FCM, Suze, I’m good for Tuesday evening.
HAPPY TUESDAY EVERYONE! Why am I so happy today? Because it’s my very last day of classes as an undergraduate. Special, eh? I thought so too.
On Saturday afternoon I emailed another person who’s offering a place to live in Panama City, and yesterday s/he (with a name like Dana I can’t be sure) responded, asking for my phone number to call and set stuff up. So hopefully this will work out, because the other people seem to have vanished into the swamp or something.
In about 10 minutes I have an appointment at the Student Health Center for this persistent, localized backache I’ve had for about a week now. I think I pulled something. Must’ve been during one of my X-TREME SLEEPING sessions. :dubious:
Dot, your layout is one of the best I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen a lot of Livejournal layouts. I also friended you, by the way.
rigs, the second plasterer comes today, right? How do you think the repairs are going?
swampy, you have some interesting cow-orkers. Or should I say pig-oinkers?
[sub]say, what’s a pi-goinker?[/sub]
bumba, of course you are getting a puppy! It’s wonderful! I have had dogs since I was a kid and cannot imagine life without one. Yes, it’s devastating when they go but I have had several marvelous companions which helps to make up for that somewhat.
dot, the layout for your journal is quite lush and restful. As to content…sigh…see, you probably won’t make it to the “disappearance” you’re seeking. You’ll probably just do something irreparable to your body…let’s say a stroke, for instance, and live on anyway, but, dear, you won’t be able to dance again…ever… That’s all I’ve got to say about that.
riggs, Admiral Halsey notified me. He had to get a boat or he couldn’t get to sea. Hee, hee.
We had about 20,000 protesters at our local immigrant march yesterday. The Princess went and came back with quite a sunburn.
That’s about it for now.
Tupug
hi all
nothing to add
feeling woozy today so I’m going slow, but I am at work, so I’ll be stopping in from time to time
Morning, all. My wrists hurt and the OT at work said I might have the start of carpal tunnel (one perk of working in a hospital–one gets nurses station professional consults). Not good. Between here and pulling weeds…gah.
Today is clean and organize day–did you all plan ahead? Me neither.
No motivation, but face alot of work today. Bleh.
I don’t want a dog, ever. I will visit yours and wind them up and then leave. How’s that? I am marginal with the cat as it is (my tolerance for pets waxes and wanes with my stress and activity level). Tonoc we rip down the first cabinets.
#2 Plasterer doesn’t come until tomorrow at noon. I have a meeting at work at 0700. Nice, eh? NO. But I will be home in time for the plasterer. I just want the damned work done at this point ,so that the cabinets can go in. Argh.
Dotster -how does livejournal work? Can a reader post remarks? Is it free? Enquiring minds want to know! I like the ivy and the kitty. As to the content, one day at a time, hang in there and listen to the doubts. Accept help.
