I once made myself avocado & chicken wraps for lunch, but forgot to cook the chicken. :smack:

Actually. I take back my joke. I’d totally eat some butter casserole.
Miracle Whip and Cool Whip are NOT the same thing.
Because of an incident when I was a kid, I loathe Miracle Whip to this day.
Green beans ruin the taste of butter.
Sneezing while holding an open tub of paprika is NOT a good idea.
Dishwasher soap is NOT the same thing as dish soap.
And, when making a big serving of tuna, and you get to when you add the white stuff, and you know it’s not sweet, it’s still important to know that sour cream is not the same thing as mayonnaise.
Better that than the other way around!
When your pancakes at IHOP have a happy face atop the stack, with half a pineapple ring representing the smile, and maraschino cherries representing the eyes, the nose is NOT a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
If the recipe says to use a whole egg, be sure to remove the shell.
I too recycle my used oil. However I now remember NOT to use wiper fluid jugs to store it. Why? I was taking about eight gallons of the stuff back to Walmart one day. Some of the jugs were probably a couple years old. The wiper fluid jug shattered when I turned a corner and let the bottles slide around in the truck bed. All the 5 quart oil bottles were fine! First stop after the Walmart? Car wash!
Another one in the “check which bottle you’re grabbing” department: my wife and I went to a local sports bar one Friday night to take advantage of their fish and chips special. The food came, my wife grabbed what she thought was the malt vinegar bottle, and poured half of her Bud Light all over her dinner. She often doesn’t learn from her mistakes but I don’t think she’ll repeat that one.
Also, from one of my favorite Farside cartoons “First pants, then your shoes”.
This is how amazing new recipes are invented. ![]()
When baking, double checking the oven temperature is a great idea. But it will heat up faster if you also turn it on.
When using eggs you bought fresh from the farm, ALWAYS break them into a separate bowl before adding them to your cake batter.
When making fresh cheese, you can’t ignore the milk, let it boil, and then just cool it down to the temperature it says on the recipe. You have to heat it gently and stop at the right temp or it will never curdle.
When making a simple syrup, always boil the water before you add the sugar. Otherwise you’ll be standing there stirring for an hour.
No love for chicken cake?
Nuts and Bolts
1 Med 400g box Cheerios cereal
1 Med 550 g box Shreddies cereal
1 200 g pkg pretzel sticks (broken in half)
1 200g pkg Christie Cheese Bits (or Cheese Nips)
1 kg blanched salted peanuts (can partially replace with cashews and/or other nuts)
1 lb butter (or margarine)
½ cup bacon fat (optional - may use extra butter instead)
1 whole bud+ garlic (or 1 package of frozen cubes - more is better!)
1 tsp onion powder
2-3 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Peel & crush garlic.
- Melt butter and bacon fat, add crushed garlic and other seasonings, and let simmer for 10-15 minutes on lowest heat.
- Mix dry ingredients in large roasting pan.
- Pour melted seasoned butter over dry ingredients, mixing well as you do so to ensure butter is evenly distributed.
- Bake at 175°F-200°F for 1½-2 hours, mixing occasionally.
- Cool and bottle, bag, eat, etc.
Adjust ingredients to taste. If this is a success you may need to make more than one batch - I usually do two or three and give ziploc bags full to family and friends.
So, roughly like homemade Chex Mix. But with bacon fat & a shitload of garlic. I guess some folks might be turned off by that description … but not me!!!
Thank you so much for sharing. Imma try that out!
You’d use a separate bowl for your eggs only after you have one that’s been fertilized or has bloody streaks in it. At that point, you stop getting your eggs from your brother’s farm (or at least always crack them open individually).
Basking soda will work if you also add cream of tartar or something else with a little acid in it.
