As someone who supported and lived with his mother for almost five years before she passed from cancer, I can attest that most woman think the way you do. There is no logical/reasonable explanation for a why a grown man would live with his mother that doesn’t involve him being a deadbeat.

I was lucky enough to meet a wonderful woman who didn’t and eventually came to live with us and helped me care for her.

I am even luckier now to call her my wife.

Oh, I’d say that your wife is pretty lucky, too.

Generally speaking, grown adults who live with their parents, after a certain time period, are deadbeats. But that’s generally speaking. Your mother actually DID need someone, and if you hadn’t stepped up, she probably would have had to hire someone.

But I have to admit, when I learn that someone is living with his/her parents after the age of 25 or so, my first thought is “deadbeat loser”, until I hear of special circumstances. It’s a very real prejudice, but I’m willing to change my mind if I learn that the person is dealing with health issues, or is just getting over a divorce, etc.

This thread makes me glad that I’m in a happy, committed relationship.

Seeing all the comments here made me realize why I hated the dating game.

Bottom line: No one has a clue.
