Things that go "HELP!!!!" in the night... my first MMP

Not just the Dope, but the last page of this week’s MMP!

I just got my cheque, Christmas bonus, and a vase with a candle in it. It’s quite pretty. I think Mr. Lissar will love it. He likes containers. And blank books. We have 400,000,000 partly-filled or untouched blank books.

Sean, that’s an awesome photo. What thread was that?

Oops. Didn’t preview. The MMP!

I made a set of handwarmers, and I think I’ll make a second set, so Mom’s friends will be getting the same stuff in different colours- fancy tea, handwarmers, homemade truffles. It works.

Still nothing for Driving Husband.

Speaking of the MMP - is someone on deck for Monday? I know we had an assortment of volunteers for an assortment of days.

Anyone?

The Outsiders was huge when I was in junior high. I don’t know why I never read it. Probably for the same reason I didn’t read Flowers in the Attic, which was also extremely popular. After later reading Flowers in the Attic, I came to the conclusion that the reading public has…peculiar tastes.

I splurged on lunch: what my co-workers call a weed salad (any salad greens that aren’t iceberg lettuce), gnocchi in a gorgonzola cream sauce, and strawberry sorbet, washed down with unsweet tea. Usually, the cream sauce is a sauce, this time it seemed to be cream sauce with gnocchi, and then they put it under the broiler. Mmmm, golden-brown, crispy gorgonzola! It was sinfully rich. Total, including tax & tip: $30.17.

Afterwards, I went to the farmer’s market, the final one this year, and bought a cute little leather dragon change purse and a brown sheep keyring. I’ll have to get down to Christmas in the Park next week.

Doesn’t everyone have at least 400,000,000 blank books, most of them with only 2 or 3 pages of writing in them? I have dream journals, tarot journals, journal journals, memory books…

FCM AIR we are to be regaled with tales of taxi’s wedding and honeymoon next week. I’m sure she hasn’t forgotten. I mean, a wedding and honeymoon pales in comparison with hosting an MMP after all. I bet she’s been using copious amounts of time composing just the exact right thing for the MMP. That taxi is like that you know. Or, if she doesn’t, doggio has a reserve post of Lucretia walking across the keyboard to share with us. So, we’re covered no matter what.

Sean you look pretty good for a middle aged white guy.

Err… that should have read… Sean you look pretty good for a straight middle aged white guy.

Dang one beer too many before posting!

Hey! I read that book.

Okay, I read part of that book.

Okay, I read about 2 pages of that book.

Good to know I didn’t miss anything.
Lissla, Wifey has one of those microwave heaty thingees about the size of a piece of printer paper. It’s wonderful, and a terriffic gift. Her’s is supposed to be filled with flax seeds, but it smells like licorice when it’s heated up, so I suspect there’s fennel seeds in there too. Not a bad thing.

Sean, I always thought you were closer to my age. “Middle-aged white guy” just doesn’t mean what it usta, I guess.
BTW, I was wondering who this Stella woman was and why she was on your desk.

As for the hissy princess, my first thought was “someday somebody’s gonna marry that twit!”

Are you flirting with Sean, Swampy?

I have a question for all you much smarter than me Dopers re computers.

I find I want to delete/purge/get rid of some of my Word documents. I am on a Macbook.

I cannot drag them to the trash-doesn’t work. There is no “delete” option in the File menu or anywhere on the toolbar.

How do you do this?

Thanks in advance. Dinner time!

Now, Bumba did you see me post a “how you doin’” to Sean?

rigs when a Mac gets full, I think you throw it away and get a new one. I could be wrong though.

All afternoon, AC has been busily purging files for…someone. She’s been hustling the ginormous shredder bins all around the office and up and down the people elevators (no freight elevator for her, she’s special) like a madwoman, to the consternation of our facilities manager. I don’t know whose files she’s shredding, but I hope they didn’t leave anything behind that shouldn’t be shredded. ::sniff:: I’m going to miss her. I’ve never been so endlessly entertained by a co-worker, no, not even Claude, who got arrested on the beach for supplying drugs to his minor son while he was on duty as the night watchman on the beach, and had virtually his entire paycheck garnished every week to pay his various debts/fines/child support.

Good thing you specified that that was the MMP on your screen, Sean! Otherwise I might not have believed it was you…

rigs, are you in Word when you’re trying to delete or in Finder? It should work from Finder. You can either drag them from there to the trash or highlight what ever you want to delete and then go to the little action icon (looks like it has a daisy in it or maybe it’s a little wheel thingy) and select “move to trash” from the drop down. You should also empty the trash if you’re sure everything in it needs to go.

I’m home, I’m tired, I saw Eragon. It was pretty good. Coulda been much better, more detailed, longer, but it was fun anyway. And the dragon was awesome.

I like Will Smith too. Haven’t seen all of his movies, but I’ve liked the one’s I’ve seen.

Wow, AC is special. My money is on wrong documents being shredded all over the place.

Guess I should decide what to do with my evening. Someone I know just published a romance; I’m thinking I might just read it tonight. I’ll bet it would be a nice, mindless way to spend the evening. Maybe I’ll pull up a glass of wine, too.

Oh…and yes, definitely, on the warmy thingies.

Have I mentioned that I’m thrilled it’s Friday? Cuz I am. One week to vacation! Yay!!!

rigs: Try printing them and then shredding them?

The Kid who has a Powerbook, also does not know. She says you might try deleting it off your HD, not using Word to do it - just highlight and delete it through the menu?

I’m home, and I gotta start wrapping stuff.

Hey, I should mention, any of y’all want to join the Kid, meeself and a gaggle of folks for the 1st Annual December Pub Crawl (aka: Crawl-A-Palooza), lemme know, it’s an open party this Sunday. Of course you have to make it out here, but that’s a minor inconvenience for what shapes up to be the Party of the Year. You may recall the Kid hit 21 last Sunday, but we only celebrated a wee bit that day, because this week was Finals Week for her, so we put off the grand celebration til this Sunday, which coincidentally is MY birthday. Don’t you love when a plan works like that? I do.

It’s also her friend Joe’s 21st on Sunday, and two other of her friends hit 21 this past week.

We even got T-Shirts, 'cept they’re all accounted for so you have to dress yourself if you come.

PS: I mentioned the part about Sunday being my birthday?

PPS: If there’s still no one stepping up for the 12/25 MMP, I can do that.

So, we need to remember that it’s MBG’s birthday on Sunday. I think he mentioned it at some point. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve been cruising the net.

Now I’m gonna read.

How you doin’?

You can’t delete from within Word.

Open the Finder. Open the folder that the docs are in - then drag them to the trash.

Well, the Snakes won 6-1 over Richmond, who is the second place team! Go Snakes! We have another game tomorrow night and then the Christmas party on Sunday. I love weekends full of hockey!

I ought to be sleepy but I’m always wired after a game. I have a nice of glass on Bailey’s here on the desk, which should help with my unsleepiness.

Back from the party - my boss has a *niiiiiiiiiiiiice * house. We only hung around for a couple fo hours, but it was pleasant, and we both schmoozed a little, ate a little, and figured out that my boss is only 41.

Now we’re home winding down. Busy day tomorrow… <yawn>

My office party is Wednesday and it will really be more of an all day eating binge which will actually probably start Monday with some light snax and go thru til Friday or until all Wed’s leftovers have been consumed
The Company Holiday Party will, for the sixth year, be at Dave & Busters (formerly Jillian’s) - on January 9th. We have exclusive use of the place for a few hours, which is cool. And it’s only about a mile from my house which is also cool. But I probably won’t go, unless I can get an outside friend to go with me. I have friends at work, but their work friends, not party friends. meh. we’ll see. (Also there’s a lot of standing which isn’t in my vocabulary these days.)

My Secret Santa giftee finally got her gift! She had said she liked purple and frou-frou girls things, and I found this wonderful bunny dressed in a purple ballerina outfit with little toe shoes and lots of tulle and ribbons. What can possibly be more frou-frou than that? She said she liked it, too. I also sent some of my jewelry - a set of purple bracelets and a Christmasy necklace and earring set. I’m glad she finally got it - I was starting to go grrr at the post office.

Talked with Connor tonight after the game, and discovered through another player that he has a Harley back home - of course he didn’t ride it down here for obvious reasons. So as part of his Christmas gift I’m going to get him a Harley shirt from the store here with “Chattahoochee Harley-Davidson” on it. I think he’ll like that.

The Bailey’s is working; I’m starting to get sleepy.
