Happy Birthday, MBG !
Our Santa Ride is today - we take all the equipment out and Santa rides on one of the engines and we blow the sirens. We ride all around our district and when we see kidlets, we stop and Santa gets off and gives them candy canes. It takes several hours and then we all head back to the firehouse and have a potluck dinner. It’s lots of fun. Some people give us plates or tins of cookies and assorted yummies.
Yeah, about that bill, all my mail is temporarily going to a house in southern Merrylande, so just send it there…
That sounds like fun BibKitty.
Bobbio I’ll take my turn in hell this week cause I didn’t go for churchification today. I think I’m gettin’ a cold. My head’s all stuffed up, my throat is scratchy and I have a cough. Plus I’m a little achy like. No fever though. That’s why I say I think I’m gettin’ a cold. So, Ima dope (heh!) myself up with stuff as a preventative measure and plan on a lot of snoozin’ today.
We’re supposed to go to a cocktail party early evening but I just believe I’ll call up our lovely host and beg forgiveness for not attending. I’m a big believer in one keeping one’s germy self away from others when one is sick.
Doing it in the daylight means much more warmth…
It was a hoot for me last night.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MGB!!!
I am up but tired. I’ll have to start getting ready so we can go out for brekkies, but I’m not in a big hurry.
Nothing else too exciting going on here. We’ll pick up our tree and I need to purchase some groceries.
Sigh, I guess I’ll have to decorate the tree too. I don’t mind hanging the decorations so much; I just hate doing the lights. The lights are a royal pain in the ass.
It’s brrrrrrr, cold out today. Everything is frosty, but the good news is that there isn’t any snow here in the lowlands. The cold really is tough on the many, many, many people still without electricity due to the storm the other night. I still consider myself very fortunate.
Happy Birthday, MBG!!!
I have been productive this morning - filled the dishwasher and started it running, then made the pie for the Christmas party this afternoon. I’m looking forward to that - watching the players play Dirty Santa is always fun. My present contribution is a gift box of Crown Royal. Now to decide what I’m going to wear.
Hope you feel better, Swampy.
DB, why in the world would they cut payroll this time of year? Most stores hire extra help, and from what I have seen of that type of store around here you need extra help just to put back the stuff rude people stick where it doesn’t belong!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MBG!!
Tired. Yesterday was long. Today will be long. Want to sleep.
Probably see you all tomorrow.
gt - I’m giving Social Sciences a try this time round, I’ve done arts and humanities and all that gubbins, it’s SS this year and then maybe environmental sciences next time.
swampy - sorry to hear you’re not feeling so good, you should definitely stay at home if you’re all germy. Maybe your host can package up your share of the cocktails and send them on to the birthday boy?
Happy Birthday MBG, hope it’s a fantastic day for you!
I’ve had my predictably lazy day, watched Robin Hood this afternoon and had a drool over Richard Armitage. I think I might just make it through the rest of the day now. And my friend just sent a message to say that the guest beer at the Newhampton is Wychwood Brewery’s “Fiddler’s Elbow”. So I guess that’s my evening sorted.
BooFae I have a feeling the birthday boy will (maybe already has found) find his fair share of cocktails.
I slept a while, got up, ate and am now considering more sleep. This is how I know I’m sick. All I want to do is sleep. Not that that’s a bad thing. A little hibernation can be good for what ails ya.
Hi, everybody! Didja miss me? We got back from the West Coast Thursday evening, and I’ve been recovering ever since. And being ignored by the dogs, who have adopted palebunny as their new Best Person. I feel so…neglected!
Anyway, we had a nice trip. I waved at you both times we drove by your area, Taters, and said hi – did you wave back?
I haven’t read a word of the thread, not even the OP yet, and don’t know if I’ll have time to play catch-up since I got slammed with work the moment I got home. Plus Papa Tigs bought himself a new game to play while we were out there that, alas, is highly addictive, so I’ve been rewarding myself during breaks from my work with the silly game. Mindless and pointless and a great time-waster.
We left Seattle just in time – my mom and sister lost power for a while Thursday, it came back up for a while, and then went out again Thursday night, and my mom just called an hour ago to say her power is back on. Yipes! Fortunately, her condo stays comfortable even with no heat; it never got below 60°, and she stayed bundled up to keep warm (since she is 86, hypothermia is a real concern, obviously!). So she did just fine. And actually, she’s doing just fine overall, and my sister is likewise doing better than I expected with her Parkinson’s – she’s been seeing a new doctor the past few months who has it really well under control, and she moves better than she has in several years and almost doesn’t have any tremors at all. So we’re very pleased about that. Now to really work on her diet, since she’s also got stage 3 kidney disease and needs to eat a low-sodium, low-potassium diet. If anyone can suggest good sources for nutritional information that she could use as reading material till she can get in to see a dietitian, it would be appreciated.
My MIL is also doing well, of course. She’s 79 years old and still goes out dancing several times a month. We should all be so energetic. If I had HALF her energy, I’d be thrilled! All the nieces & nephews have grown at least a foot, and bitchy SIL was too preoccupied with her upcoming cruise to worry about being obnoxious to us, so a more pleasant visit than expected was had by all.
We had an AWFUL flight home out of Portland, though; why did I, who’s afraid of flying in bad weather anyway, get the one pilot who decided not to give us the “usual doubletalk” and tell us straight out that it was going to be an awful, bumpy, unpleasant flight? Sigh. It wasn’t as bad as he had warned us it would be, but it was still bad enough in places to be highly unpleasant indeed. I hate flying – taking trains is so much more civilized!
Anyway, I’ll try to catch up a bit on this week’s thread, but if not, I’ll be back around this week when my life hopefully gets caught up a bit.
Hi Mama Tiger! I’m glad you made it back home safely, bumpy flight and all. There are still several areas here without power, but it will all eventually be restored.
Oh! Gotta run. Off to eat a very late breakfast, go to Costco and get the tree.
Tigs glad you had a good trip and made it home ok. Bumpy airplane rides are ick!
Speaking if ick, that describes me right now. I’m just ick. Stoopid cold.

Happy Birthday MBG!!!

My leg went out on me this morning, it hurts to walk. At least I’m off tomorrow, so I can rest it(and back up the MMP if taxi,** MBG**, and Haze are “under the weather”) I have had a nice long nap, time to think about food and beerverages.
gttrust me, inside I’m screaming.
swampy, I hope you feel better.
Hi Momcat!!!
Yikes, doggio take it easy on the leg ok? That’s the type thing that’s only supposed to happen to us old folk, young man.
Welcome back, Mama T. You’ll be glad to know palebunny even stopped by a couple times to say hi and relay your greetings.
Sorry about the leg doggio. Take care of yourself!
I’m cleaning and uploading pictures to be printed for Mom.
Hope everyone’s having a lovely day. (I’m assuming the birthday boy is as he hasn’t even stopped by to collect his birthday greetings.)
GT
Between making 4 double batches of cookie dough and sorting my last bucket of peecans, I’m about half-sick, self inflicted…
No fires today.
I don’t understand all these funny colors. But I want to share my happy happy’s with MBG. Sorry that is all I have to add, my eyes need to readjust for a moment.
We were successful (mostly) with our errands and stuff today.
Out to breakfast, then we went to Costco and stocked up on some stuff. Over $300.00 spent; but it’s been awhile since we’ve been there.
Then we went to find a Christmas tree. We went to a place that we’ve purchased trees from in the past; but the selection there today was very, very paltry and way, way overpriced. I was not going to pay $200.00 for some ugly tree. Especially if it was only going to be up a week. They had some $100.00 trees, but, again, that’s a bit much for something that’ll be up a week, and even those were looking sort of dried out.
The hubby was frustrated with me and didn’t even want to get a tree, but I insisted on getting one. So, we came home, unloaded our Costco stuff and off I went again, this time alone. I went to Lowes, where the trees looked very, very sad. So sad, in fact, that I didn’t even get out of the rig to look closely at the few they had there. So, off I went to Home Depot. I found a six to seven foot Noble fir there for $40.00 bucks. It’s an alright tree; certainly better than anything I’d seen today. I bought it. It’s not as tall or full as I normally would prefer, but since we’re a week away from Christmas, pickings are slim.
Swampy, I hope you’re feeling better. canineservant, take care of your leg.
I need to cook some chop-chop now, and then I’ll need to decorate the tree. I put it in its stand right away, so it should be drinking up plenty of water. I made sure to have the folks at Home Depot trim some off the end of the trunk.
Envy me my ever-so exciting life.
Happy Birthday, Mr Bus Guy
Sorry I wasn’t here to post earlier, but I was visiting slugville again. Seems I go there every Sunday - I wonder if I’ve banked up any FF points?
My baby is home! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!
We’re home from a nice afternoon at my mom’s and we’re all chillin’. Not a whole lot else to share - just: MY BABY IS HOME!!!
