Things that go "HELP!!!!" in the night... my first MMP

Yay Bibkitty! Congratulations!

Still feeling like ca-ca and now I can’t get warm either. I tried sleeping a little more; it didn’t work. I’ll try again in a bit.

As it turns out, one more person has been invited to our Christmas Day dinner, so including the Taters Family there will be sixteen at the feast. I’m going to have to order on big-assed hunk o’ prime rib roast!

I’m feeling slightly um, mean and selfish for feeling this way; but I’m not particularly thrilled about one of the folks that’s coming. He’s the nephew I’ve spoken of before; you know the one who generally drinks too much, breaks shit, pouts, and makes an ASS of himself. Putting this dinner together, along with all the cleaning and prep that goes into hosting this, is stressful enough. I don’t need this too. I am so very burned out on his antics. I can’t believe that I have to worry about a 35/36 year old man’s behaviour, along with the possibility of him offending anyone else here.

However, he doesn’t have plans for Christmas, hadn’t been invited anywhere (hmmmm, I wonder why), so my husband felt bad and invited him. Sigh…

As I said above, I feel incredibly guilty for having these mean-spirited feelings. It’s definitely not in tune with the season, and really, it’s not me either.

Hopefully, I’ll start feeling better about the whole thing. God, I feel like such a Grinch!

Nothing of note going on. I need to mail out some cards and things, but it’ll have to wait until tomorrow or the next day.

**YAY, BIBBY! We knew you could do it! ** Where’s your calendar picture?

The first office festival of treats was today. It was a Redneck Xmas theme. Treats were KFC, cornflake cassarole, pb&j sammiches, and slim jims. I passed. My department is up tommorrow. We’re doing brunch…complete with jammies and mimosas. I plan to bring my bunny slippers.

taters, don’t feel bad. I feel the same way about my mother. (She pulls the same stunts.) That’s why they say you can pick your [del]nose[/del] friends but you can’t pick your relatives.

I am TAHRD! Is it quit-o-clock yet?

congrats to you, BiblioCat!! (obligatory red letters)

well done.

For the record, once again I made a yummerrific pot of N.O.T soup. There’s just enough left over for my lunch tomorrow. Yay.

My kid called to vent a bit. Not only is her rent going up by $35, but the apartment instituted a pet fee of an extra $25/month. I told her that’s life - is that cold of me? I also told her to tell me how much we need to give her every month. That’ll depend on how many hours she gets at the museum. Anyway, she got it out of her system, then we had a nice chat. So it’s all good.

Pie for dessert later. mmmmmmm PIE!

Congrats, Bibkitty!! Yay!

Taters, I wouldn’t feel guilty. I think most of us have relatives we’d rather not spend time with. The ones that make us dread family gatherings.

I suppose I should start throwing stuff into boxes, as I’ll have to move all my shit tomorrow. One more day, and then I am so out of here.

Yum, N.O.T. soup sounds good. Maybe I’ll stop at Safeway on the way home and pick up some taters and onions.

Yay, bibkitty!

NC was grumping to me that New Girl is taking her lead from AC as far as attendance is concerned. “She does it, why can’t I?” Well, she has a point. Still, we are supposed to be here during our scheduled hours. Coming in early or taking a short lunch doesn’t mean that you get to leave before you’re scheduled to without making prior arrangements. Meanwhile, our fearless leader, who doesn’t have “time” to supervise those of us upstairs, apparently has plenty of time to knit at her desk. I never dreamed the day would come when I would ask for supervision!

Way to go** Bibbygato!**

rigs - joke’s on the way.

Good to hear everything has turned out fine, albiet sore, Hank. You gotta take care of yourself kiddo. Looking forward to new home stories too.

Sorry I haven’t posted yet today, but I’ve been asleep. Tonight is my overnight shift, so I need to rest during the day. I did run one errand, I went and got my picture taken with The Stanley Cup. I also took a a couple of the gift shop Christmas tree.

Yeah FireBibkitty!!!, we should have a celebratory bonfire or something.

I’m glad you are going to the doc Haze.

Haze you still need to go see a doc. Just sayin’ is all. I won’t fuss. I worry. So, you’re leg turns funny colors and falls off… what can I do? I should worry that you have to go through life with only one leg? I should worry what the neighbors have to say because I couldn’t get you to go to the doctor? Do what you want. Don’t worry about me. I can learn to live with the shame the neighbors will heap on me. Really. It’ll be fine. Feel guilty yet?

Taters, tell ya what… since hubby invited him, put hubby in charge of nephew to make sure he behaves. I know, family and all, but he’s waaaaaaay old enough to act right. However, since he apparently can’t, make it hubby’s job to make sure he does. That sounded really mean didn’t it?
YAAAAAAY BIBKITTTY!!! WOOOHOO!!!

Oh, and in case any of you cool kids have been especially bad this year, just remember Santa watches so you might not get nuttin’ for Christmas. Just remember to be good.

Actually, Swampy, I was pretty much thinking along the same lines as you. The point is, I shouldn’t HAVE to say anything at all.

Ugh, I don’t even want to think about it. Maybe he’ll go to his Mom’s place in Spokane. I’m hoping anyway.

May god curse you with a fiery bolt and send you to the deepest level of hell for that link, swampus.

That is my all time most hated Xmas song. I thought it would be a funny play on (is it Vunderbob?) pecans. But NO.

what is wrong with Haze’s leg?

And why won’t my husband get out of the kitchen, so I can go in there and get the M&Ms that I hid in there because he always eats them all in one day? I want some chocolate and he is getting in my way…there may be a killing here tonight.

Never mind guilty. Now I’m terrified.

rigs, there’s a post somewhere on page 2, I think, that tells the story of my leg. Long story short - I got hit by a car while crossing the street, last night. Nothing’s broken, but my right leg is sore (where the car hit me). No lasting damage. Although I AM keeping an eye out for any traces of green, or pieces of flesh falling off.

Ok, I felt like cooking dinner tonight until I was on hold for one whole hour, trying to get car service in Manhattan for tonight for a manager who swore a week ago that she did not need car service tonight.

Me, two weeks ago: Do you need a room? Car service?
Her: No and no. I never need car service.
Later that week: Oh, wait, I guess I will need a room.
Me: Ok, that will be $699/night.
Her: …oh, it’s the holidays in New York, huh?
Today, 1 hour ago: Oh, can you get me car service for tonight and Thursday?
Me, thinking: For tonight? La Guardia to Manhattan? What, are you crazy? Who do you think you are, a partner? :stuck_out_tongue: (She’s a rising star, believe it or not. I think she’ll make partner within 5 years.)
Ooh, she just called, asking for the address of the World Financial Center office. It’s, you know, in the World Financial Center? I think the taxi driver will know where it is. (The answer is 2, BTW.) Sigh. Maybe she’s never really actually been to New York on business, or ever, before?

But I found one. Hurray for Vital! (She’s gonna leave me a message tonight saying that the car stunk/driver was crazy/late/something awful isn’t she?)

So, rigs, since swampy’s link is blocked at work, are you telling me that I shouldn’t try to open it at home?

YAY BookKitty!! - It was all those cool kids vibes that did it

Drae - you’re doing better than me - I’m in this house 12 years - there are still about a dozen boxes I never unpacked (some are from my 1989 move to the place I lived before here)

The wake was very depressing - The woman was truly a lady, in every sense of the word. She was also a good friend, and was very good at her job. She went in her sleep, which is good because she didn’t suffer at all, but we were all clearly in shock. She left 5 children and 10 grandchildren. She will be missed. I did get to see a slew of co-workers who are in other departments now (tho we all started out in the same place) but altho their faces were familiar, I could not recall some of their names. (I admit it - I am geting old) Anyway, I was too blue to join my friends at Buzztime Trivia (we meet once a month to play) which is just as well, because a good night’s sleep tonight will put me in a better mood for tomorrow night
Speaking of which, I have no idea what to wear. I could try to go a little dressier than I normally do for work. like actually put on a skirt. But that will raise too many eyebrows and I am not ready to answer questions yet. So I’ve narrowed it down to 2 tops: this one (I’m on the left) which, being a trapeze style top, hides my bulk, or this one which, bring purple, looks great and the fabric is clingy so it sets off “the girls” (but because it’s clingy, it also accents the midriff rolls) I have earrings that go with both. Opinions?

I like the black one better. Not that what I like matters…

the link that inthedoghouseswampus posted is the lyrics to that horrible horrible Xmas “song” about receiving nothing in your stocking…because the singer should have been drowned at birth.
I snuck in and got some chocolate. Honestly, it was like DTs or summthin’…
Haze-I’m only going to say this once. While FCM may be the Queen (is she?) of the MMP, I am the resident nurse. Dont’ come snivelling to me with your sinus headaches and your upset tummies-not interested. Man up already and put your shoulder to the wheel and all that…

but getting HIT BY A CAR is worthy of notice–a doctor’s notice, even. Get to one. Soon. Just to be sure…

I’ve been on the phone a lot all evening; a friend’s mother passed last night and I had to plan some stuff out. She was in her 90’s and had Alzheimer’s, but it’s been really difficult for my friend; she’s the responsible child in the family.

Also, I made rum balls.

I’m really sleepy and need to read more Gilead. I completely agree about the part where you don’t get some of it until you’ve read it several times. It’s the first book I’ve read in a long time where I’ve felt like I needed to highlight lots of things to come back to. Instead, I have a collection of post-its. And yes, I think meditative is the word that describes it best. Never thought of the novel as a particularly meditative form, but this one is.

Hank, listen to all of us old people. We’ve all had things that seemed like nothing at the time and turned out (sometimes years later) to be…well…something.

Can’t type anymore…too tired.

Back later…

GT

Haze, I’m taking everyone else to the doctor this week - do I need to come get you too?

I may end up spending the night at librarian friend’s house Thursday night; the doctor has said she shouldn’t be by herself the night after the procedure. So I told her I would stay with her since she has no family in town.

Rosie, for what it’s worth I like the black one best, too. Yet when I tried to type “black” it came out “plack”. Is my subconcious disagreeing with my color choice, or can I just not type?

There is one good thing to be said about getting up at 5am; I should sleep well tonight. We’ll see. I’m sad because I already ate all of the Oreo truffles. Don’t look at me like that - she only gave me six and I ate two of them last night and the rest for breakfast.

No word from the league on player suspensions, hopefully we’ll hear tomorrow.

Hi Taters!

You can get little plastic chocolate dippers at stores that sell candymaking supplies (they’re basically plastic sticks with a swirly bit on one end). I used to have one, but I think I got rid of it–if I still had it, I’d send it to you.

Those Oreo truffles sound yummy. I have a bunch of baking to do–maybe I’ll squeeze some of those in. I need to make a bunch of chocolate cherry bread. If I feel really brave, I might try to make some chocolate-covered graham crackers, but that’s probably not going to end well.

I hope you brought enough for everybody!

gt, I’m sorry to hear about your friend’s mom. Alzheimer’s is nasty stuff.

rosie, I vote for the purple top–that color looks fantastic on you!

Puggy, can I come work with you? We never have mimosas at work. We’re lucky to get stale Krispy Kremes.

rosie, FWIW I vote for the black one as well. But both are pretty. I just like black better than purple, personally.

Okay, I’m going to do my best to try and see the doctor tomorrow. I wonder if “getting a check-up because of almost getting run over by a car” is covered under the Student Wellness Fee.

gt, I’m sorry to hear about your friend’s mother.

What are rum balls?
