Happy MMP all! I m really late this week because I was away for the weekend and didn’t come back until late Monday. I also have a hard time keeping up with these posts, but love to read them; hope I am still welcome to post in them!
I was visiting my brothers and Dad in the Philly area; went up on Friday and came back yesterday. Stayed with one brother in the Norristown area, and had a hoagie (not a zep though!) from Corropolese Bakery if anyone is familiar with them. I also had one of the best brownies (very fudgy!) ever from there. Deeeelicious!
Also over the weekend saw the obit of a friend from my college days - his funeral was today (Tuesday). I hadn’t seen him in years, but sent a note of condolence to his two children; I also was a close friend of their mother (who I also haven’t seen in years, unfortunately. :(). He had been in a nursing center. I was very saddened – 53 is too young to die, and it sounded like he had probably suffered.
Glad to be back home, and tomorrow it’s back to work.
Rum balls are a glorious treat! The very best are homemade. I’ve never had any store bought rum balls that were any good. I’ve never attempted to make them. Before I moved out of my mother’s house, I baked all the time. I baked a lot German cakes and cookies, using real German cookbooks. Now, I just don’t have the time or the inclination.
I’m glad to hear that you’re finally taking your hiney to the doc, young lady. You know we would have nagged you until kingdom come.
rosie, another vote for the black from me.
I’m sorry to hear about your co-worker.
gt, I’m sorry to hear about your friend’s mother.
Nava, what server do you play WoW on?
The husband and I currently have Alliance humans on Proudmoore, and he talked me into playing on Spinebreaker as an undead character. We just started our undead characters. I named my female warrior Bufugly, because, well, she is.
I think I’m gonna veg in front of the idiot box awhile.
I’m in European servers anyway. Poked around a bit before settling on Les Sentinelles; this helped my French quite a lot (it was good enough to understand the initial instructions to begin with, but of course nobody teaches you how to say “je suis une chasseuse naine”) but I’ve eventually moved to Moonglade, in English. My German isn’t good enough and most of the people in the Spanish servers speak l33t or have moved over with the whole guild or both…
Dying for the Burning Crusade to come out so I can kick elf butt. Nelfs and not being able to make me a cow-guy are the only drawbacks to being Alliance, if you ask me (I’ve played dwarves for about 20 years and we even seem to be genetically related, judging by that, uh, rear view… dwarve paladin, yummy… Oh My GOD, AdwarfwithagunMEMEMEMEMEMINE!)
Thanks for the good thoughts for my friend; she’s had a rough couple of years. Her brother died last year after a stroke and the whole family dynamic has been really hard on her.
Rum balls are really easy to make, if you have a food processor or blender. They’re basically a mixture of nuts, vanilla wafer crumbs, cocoa, rum and a couple of other ingredients. They’re rolled in sugar. You have to let them sit a few days to “ripen.” They taste good right away, but it’s definitely worth it to wait a bit. I’ll post my recipe later.
I like both tops, rosie, but I think I like the black one a bit better.
Sorry about your college friend, tarra. And of course you can jump in in the middle of the MMP!
Well…I think that’s about it for now…gotta go get ready for an exciting, meeting-filled day.
Haze I’m glad you’re finally going to the doctor [del]before your leg falls off[/del] to make sure everything’s ok.
I live to please others. You’re very welcome.
Special note for MBG
I had a buttery bacony greasy bacon, egg and cheese croissant for breakfast this morning. Just thought you’d wanna know.
Rosie another vote for the black one. Since I’m gay that automatically means that one is the f-aaaaaa-bu-lous one and must be worn. It’s a rule. I think.
Yes, I think the Cool Kid Vibes pulled me through. I could feel the love as I was sweating it out. Many thanks.
And Hazel, get thee to a doctor. Getting hit by a car is serious stuff.
Rum balls are good, but bourbon balls are better. My mother makes them at Christmas and they’re soooo good. They’re itty-bitty bite-sized and you can just pop them in your mouth one after the other.
I agree with all y’all about rumballs being yummy, but no one as said what’s in 'em.
I’ve never made them, but I’ve enjoyed them enjoy so I think I can suss out the ingredients: Chocolate, sugar, rum, some other stuff to hold them all together (are they baked first?) They are sort of fudgy but not quite and sort of cakey but not quite. But they are DEElicious.
well, swampy’s vote sealed it (always wear what the queereye says to) (actually, I’d pretty much decided that by the time I went to sleep last night) Now I just have to decide - make up or no make up. No make up is ever so much easier, but a little eye make up looks good. Of course I dreamed that my mascara would ONLY clump and therefore looked horrid. I guess that means no make up
I’m not a big rumball kind of guy. Wonder what that says about me. On the other hand, I am a bacony, greasy croissanty kind of guy, which means I’m glaring wistfullt (if that’s possible) in a general southeasterly direction right about now…
Man … rough couple of nights over here. Toothaches are absolutely no fun and a whole lot of frustration and worry – even for the person who isn’t in pain. Took MindWife to the dentist. He spent all of five minutes with her and wrote her a script for Penicillin V. Just that. Nothing for the pain. I mean it’s not like she needed OxyContin or anything, but some Tylenol 3s would have been nice – especially later at night when the pain got even worse than it was the night before. She was getting sick on 222s, and that’s just not cool. I hope the antibiotics kick in soon.
What are 222’s? There was an old, old TV show here called Room 222…I am confused, since that dealt with a high school classroom (if memory serves).
I am SUPPOSED to be having a Mental Health Day. But today, the HS decided for it to be late start day–they have these 3 times a year. So, I am [del]stuck with 2 whiney teens[/del] spending quality time with my older offspring…
I don’t like rum balls, either. Or fruitcake. Or plum pudding. I might as well be an atheist. I do like eggnog, so perhaps there’s hope.
Know who else hates those different-schedule days?? Yup. your Bus Guy - whoever he is. Come to think of it, I know your bus people, they were my competitors when I was out your way…and no sympathy here. (For them I mean)
Know what eggnog I like? That sugary, pre-made stuff they sell in the dairy aisle. I suspect the purists frown on me for that…
I am proposing a series of methods into guilting Hank into going into the hospital. My first is that every reference to her should be followed by a scolding angry face --> . How about your ideas?
Well done, FireyFeline, those vibes must have worked really well!
Good thoughts going to those who need them, Ophie will be pedalling once again when she wakes up from her midday snooze, before the serious afternoon sleep comes along.
So I’m not at work today. Yay! Instead, I’m making a start on my vodka melon. You can keep yer rum balls, voddy melon is the way to go. This time I’m going to make one with the cinnamon vodka I made a couple a months ago, it’s smelling really good and I think it will work out very well. Hopefully I’ll have enough flavoured vodka left over to make another one in time for our new year break down in Wales.
In other news, last night we wandered the gluhwein stalls at the German Market again, this time with a friend and her colleague who was over from Kansas for a few days. Afterwards, we went for a meal in a pub called the Old Joint Stock which is a fantastic old building in the city centre and serves a terrific menu. The bonus is that it’s a Fuller’s pub so they had pretty much the full range of Fuller’s ales which you don’t see very often outside of the Wicked City.
So really it was a good day to have a lie-in and not have to think about getting up for work. And I realised I only have five more working days this year. Hurrah!
Rosie - it definitely got to be the black top, and just a little make-up, nothing too flash. Have stern words with the mascara before you apply it, so it knows better than to clump on you.
The dunking I can do- it’'s the getting the chocolates out without smearing them and getting chocolate everywhere that perplexes.
Ouch, Mrs. Mindfield. Stupid dentist. If someone’s in a huge amount of pain you ought to provide them with something nice, like opium. Or maybe just handfuls of codeine, swallowed straight.
222s (a Frosst brand-name for AC&C tablets) are acetaminophen, caffeine and codeine (8mg) tablets. They’re probably the strongest behind-the-counter, non-prescription painkiller you can get. They’re no substitute for Demorol or even Tylenol 3s (which contain a higher dose of codeine) but they’re effective for reducing or relieving the mid-to-upper-mid end of the pain scale. They’re only effective on the really higher end if taken in higher doses (like, 2-4x the recommended dose). That, unfortunately, tends to cause nausea.
Huh. We can’t get codeine at all without a prescription. I guess your government trusts you more than ours trusts us!
yawn It’s cloudy and supposed to be rainy for a lot of the day. I think I will stay home with the critters and not even get dressed. Stupid dogs…it’s 10 AM and they’re sound asleep. They should be bugging me for breakfast!
We belong to a consortium that does our testing and certification for us. Each quarter they generate a list of names, we pick a date and set up one of the employee restrooms and a conference room for them to come in and collect samples.
Which means once every three months, I get a line of bus drivers with full bladders lined up outside of my office watching me work - or read the Dope…
Maybe it’s time for some work OUTSIDE of the office…
It was Mr. DDS’ esteemed opinion that she shouldn’t take them until and unless he deemed that an extraction was warranted, and he won’t consider that option until she has given sufficient time for the antibiotics to do their thing. Myself, I think we ought to get her a second opinion. But I suppose we’ll see how it goes down over the next day or so.
GAH!!! I think I lost my cell phone. I know I didn’t leave it at home because I clipped it to my waist when I left, and both the phone and the clip are missing. And I think I lost it when I bent down to tie my shoes in grass by the baseball diamond just outside of my building, which I cut across every morning. I probably would have heard it if I had been listening to my iPod. ARGH! This is bad. It was a nice, rather expensive smartphone. And I can’t call the wife to go out and see if she can find it because she’s getting some much needed sleep right now. I did leave a message on our voicemail though. With any luck no one will have found it by the time I get back home and I can search for it in the field. Otherwise hopefully some good samaritan will find it, see the missed calls I made to it and call it back.
OOH! The pee lottery! Every month a few random employees get to go pee in a cup at the hospital next door, or, for those in other towns, the designated place to go pee in a cup. We never know who’s gonna get picked. Fun times.
Speaking of fun times, I’m doin’ laundry today. Yep, I’m washing mopheads. Since I suspendered one person who works in that area a lot and have need for others to be elsewhere doin’ other stuff, I’m minding commercial washers and dryers. It’s not so bad it’s just that I have to keep remembering to you know actually go to the laundry room and check on stuff.
Envy my glamorous, glitzy occupation. Envy, I say! :dubious:
