Things that make you more comfortable

Mention anything that makes you feel more comfortable except for people or animals. If someone’s love and affection makes you feel all warm and fuzzy - do not mention it in this thread.

You can also mention things that are more comfortable to use than their counterparts.

The inspiration for this thread came from my new pair of Isotoner Slippers. They are both soft and warm, and make me feel more comfortable.

I’ve been dealing with chronic sinusitis for the past four months. Flonase and durable tissues keep me sane and happy.

As soon as I saw the thread title this is what I thought of.
I need a new pair, the soles are falling off mine.

Brand new, never before worn, high quality fluffy socks.

Flannel sheets. Lotion. Furry linings in my boots. Gloves when washing dishes. Lower wattage or tinted light bulbs. Lots of water to drink. A cellphone when I’m traveling. Milk instead of water for condensed creamy soup and for oatmeal or cream of wheat. Lactose pills for the milk. A roaring fire in the fireplace or at least a wood stove. Those blanket-warmers they have in hospitals. Protein remover for contact lenses.

I’m all about the comfort.

Food.

Learning to limit this comfort has been a life long challenge!

My pirate Slanket, my Land’s End sheepskin slippers, a good book and a fire in the fireplace.

Hot chocolate, warm towels, and being in my pajamas at 7PM with something good on TV. Yeah, I’m old and boring.

Benzodiazepines.

Seriously, this.

And the quilt my mom made me.

Warm, nubby footie pajamas.

Fellow Comfort-seekers!

I have a question – more a plea for help – about a TV commercial for Sail pipe tobacco that I remember from NY Yankees telecasts (WPIX-TV, channel 11 in NYC) in the mid-1960s. There’s a guy in it, desperately trying to be “hip”; he’s listening to what I recall was an Albert King record (the record label was shown briefly) on a high-end JVC stereo; as the commercial ends, he’s smoking his pipe and putting on a Beatles wig, listening to this Albert King LP. I really like Albert King and I’d like to find the song that is playing in the commercial.

Been looking for any reference to the ad or the record for years – nothing. Might anyone know about this? Thanks.

Body pillows.

For years, I would roll over and over in bed until I’d inevitably pull all the blankets and sheets (even the fitted one) off the bed and into a tangled mass. I trained my way out of it by sleeping with a body pillow on each side. I’d try to roll and I’d just end up switching sides that I was laying on. No more waking up cold and shivering on a bare mattress, trying to untangle things in the dark.

Now I don’t always use them every night anymore, but they’re great to pile in the bed when it’s cold just for warmth, to prop yourself up to read in bed or watch TV, or just to adjust your body position if you can’t get comfortable.

Books. Not just reading them, having them around. Until I get my bookcases set up and have some books scattered around the place, wherever I’m living doesn’t feel like home, just like the place where I’m sleeping a the moment. I’ve got (checks) twenty just on my desk here.

Super-soft sheets and pajamas, Acorn slippers, the blankets I keep in my living room, and Pledge fabric sweeper. Cocoa butter, crazy rich night cream, and allergy eye drops (generally used in conjunction with the fabric sweeper). My favorite mug, and my favorite wine glass. My ipod (I’d forgotten how torturous the subway can be when you can hear the people around you).

This time of year: Smartwool socks - a new heavyweight sweatshirt - flannel sheets & a down comforter - Carhart overalls for working outside - hot cocoa w/ a shot of Bailey’s in it, to be sipped while sitting in bed under my down comforter reading a book.

Summer: A well timed breeze - sitting at the end of a long hot horse show day, cold beer in hand, feet in a bucket of cold water with a shot of Bigeloil or Sore No More (liniment) in it - clothing that wicks.

My heating pad. My cane. My Snuggie. My laptop desk. My fuzzy chenille blanket.

The combination of broccoli, onions & cheese in just about anything.

My own bed.

Being Prepared makes me comfortable. In my pantry I have squirreled away canned goods, t.p. and tissues, OTC medicines, a box of cat food and a spare bag of litter. Freezer: hamburger, cheese, bread, ice cream. Car breaks down? Snowstorm? Bring it on, I have emergency supplies for three days.

Winter: flannel p.j. bottoms and coordinating sweatshirts for vegging around the house at the end of the day, and proper fitting socks that don’t sag or bunch, but fit nicely on the feet. Summer: a Vornado fan with a long extension cord, that I carry around with me like an IV drip bag on a stand. For extra hot days, those frozen quilted things you put in the freezer, to keep groceries cold in a hot car. I can put one wrapped in a dish towel behind my back and feel better in five minutes… A big old-fashioned wicker picnic basket that I can hide papers, magazines, junk mail, and general clutter in, till I can get around to looking through it - sounds stupid, but having a clean table does wonders for my psyche. No more precarious little stacks all over…
And my pale green embossed velvet -on- one- side, satin- on- the- other side blankie that I paid $60 for - on sale! - is just the thing for a chilly evening. (Thanks for the Snuggies, the Slankets, the $5 Walmart plaid fleece throws, the blue and orange football team throw, and the pink afghan with kitties on it that I’m getting for Christmas, but they will probably be re-gifted to a shelter where they will be needed.) Of course my super-sized coffee mug, beautiful teacup, and freezer mug for cold things, thoughtful gifts I use year after year. (My mom kind of sneered when I was looking for ‘my’ teacup, she seemed to think I was being pretentious or something. But drinks just don’t taste as good in any old vessel!)

A brand-new, not-yet-pilled sweatsuit. When the inside is still soft and the outside is still smooth and it’s not torn or stretched out or stained… Nothing is more comfy for me. I love the cold weather because I keep the house cool, so I come home and don one of my sweatsuits and veg in absolute comfort. Add some warm socks and a mug of hot cocoa, and am set!

A footstool or ottoman or anything to put my feet on while sitting. I get very uncomfortable when I have to sit upright with feet on the floor for any length of time.

A clear, unstuffy nose. I hate breathing through my mouth and cold and allergeries make me miserable. Sudafed makes me comfortable. A little jacked up, but I can breathe.

Sleeping in a room with a ceiling fan on in the summer.

A good bra.

Sweater dresses - both cosy and comfy. Fleece pyjamas. Mashed potato. Hot buttered toast and a mug of team. Single malt.
