I would like to make it possible that the only way to outlaw abortion would be to outlaw owning any sort of firearm because I think it would effectively end most of the anti-abortion movement and they would no longer be such a annoying problem.
Maybe I’m overthinking this but I don’t get the connection. Do you think a higher percentage of Dopers are on Disability than in the general population? What is the percentage of adult Americans on Disability anyway?

I don’t want to hijack but I think you misunderstand utilitarianism. A utilitarian solution must consider the ethics/morals of those involved or a less than optimal outcome will result.

I think necessities like water, gas (both natural and automotive), electricity and I would even say high-speed internet access should be nationalized and given to all US residents at a virtual per-cost basis. Companies show that they cannot be trusted to NOT screw over the public even with PUC oversight.

I wonder if it appears that a disproportionate amount of Dopers are on disability, because the board skews older, and older people are more likely to be disabled? That’s just my perception though.
Or does intelligence predispose you to becoming disabled at some point in your life, before normal retirement age?
