Things that the SDMB made blindingly obvious to you.

Six more weeks of winter!

Ah yes. The time-honored tradition that if thelurkinghorror sees his cursors shadow…

That while using such phrases as “studies show” to convince the rest of the plebes you are right, it doesn’t do diddly here.

The word “cite” can be funny and is definitely under-used in real life.

Moderated discussions are fun! So is correct spelling!

That while informed, well supported discussions are amazing, wandering around the Pit can be fun too.

Sometimes the best advice or the wisest words can come from the most unlikely source.

But not with 13 year olds.

I’ve never thought of myself as smart (Mensa notwithstanding), but hanging around here has shown me that I’m not quite as weird as I thought I was. Or at least not alone in my weirdness.

Wha?! It is! Now I’ll continually be distracted by my wonky cursor. Thanks ever so much.

That lefties as well as righties are all for censorship when THEY’RE the ones being offended. I’m surprised that freedom of speech exists anywhere.

Yep, the SDMB has shown me that vast swathes of the western world seem to be incredibly germophobic. OMG! Bacteria! Weird. But then I am probably equally weird in other ways.

PS: it’s “coliform”

Speaking of arrows, the whole gas-gauge symbol arrow thing was news to me!

Does that make sense?

Oh, me, too. It was mentioned a few months ago, and I had never realized that arrow was there. Now it’s one of those ‘you can’t not see it’ things.

Please be more vague, you’re in danger of being understood!

/Off to search for gas-gauge symbol arrow thingy

On your gas gauge, next to the little gas pump symbol, there’s a little tiny arrow pointing left or right, indicating which side your gas tank opening is on. I had never noticed it before.

Yep. Thing is, I had noticed the arrow was there, but hadn’t made the logical leap to connect it with the side the filler cap is on. I thought it was an arrow pointing at the pump, meaning “go to petrol station before this gauge hits the bottom”. :smack:

Well, I’ll be damned! That’s neat!

And thank you for explaining, my search for “gas gauge symbol arrow thingy” predictably turned up nothing.

That Warez is not a city in Mexico.

Would that I were kidding.

That was pretty much my reaction when I realized it was there.

My car doesn’t have it.

:frowning:

Easily fixed with a little Tipp-Ex.

Neither does mine. In fact, I’ve never driven a car that did.

I guess they figured motorists in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and Japan were quite capable of working out which side the fuel cap was on by virtue of making note of this sort of thing before they get in the car.

On the dash of my 2001 Corolla? Blasphemy!
