Things to never say to a child

When I was little, finances were never discussed with my sister and myself. It was never my place. OTOH, LilMiss is constantly questioning my finances. Saying “No” is not enough… Here’s a typical conversation:
LM: Can we go see The Hulk?
MT: Not this weekend. Maybe next weekend.
LM: Why not???
MT: Because I already said we would not be seeing it this weekend.
LM: But you got paid this week! And you got a check from dad! And you went and bought glasses for almost $300! You have money!
MT: Whether I have the funds or not is none of your business. I said we will not be seeing it this weekend, and because of your rudeness, I cannot say whether we’ll see it next weekend either!
LM: FINE!! (followed by her stomping off, muttering under her breath how it’s not fair, etc etc)

I TRY to keep her nose out of my finances, but the kid is impossible. She has come to me with my checkstub in hand, wanting to know what I do with “all that money” (All that money? oh to be a 9 year old again when $10 is a HUGE sum of money!). She feels that if I have $20 in my purse (which she goes through), it’s hers for the spending. GRRRR.
