Things you hated as a kid but now love

That is how my mother cooked all the veggies. Mind you, she was a good cook, and she would even cook turnip greens, so she was a “waste not” child of the Depression.

I now like broccoli. Raw, maybe dipped in ranch- yum. I still hate brussel sprouts.

Broccoli steamed in garlic butter just can’t be beat.

My grandmother always had a crock of sauerkraut going in the basement. She was old school German therefore kraut was to be served as a main component or side dish with nearly every meal. We also made our own sausage, sorta like brats but a bit on the sweet side. Grandma would put the sausage, kraut and some potatoes in a casserole and let it bake until the sausage fell apart and the whole thing turned into a delightful goo

Gawd, I’m drooling, @Mortimus . There was a restaurant I used to go to that made a sausage and kraut en croute that I adored. Sounds like your Grandma’s minus the croute. Soooooooooo good.

There was no croute but her casserole was usually served with her homemade rye bread. The bread itself was to die for. Gooey on the inside, nice crunchy crust. Didn’t need any butter, it just melted in your mouth

But I guess this is something of a thread high jack so I’ll stop now.
