Think maybe we're going a little too far with sanctions against Russia?

After the Russians bombed that theater that had “CHILDREN” written on the sides… yeah, fuck the fucking fuckers. I hope their economy never recovers.

Canada to impose new Russian sanctions:

Personally, I think we need to put as many sanctions on as possible. We need to squeeze Russia HARD right now, so that those in Putin’s orbit see that the only way out of this mess is to “retire” Putin as soon as possible.

The face-saving for them is that they can blame the whole mess on one “madman” and ask to please go back to the way things were before.

I think the sanctions should be universal, permanent, and total. No other country has trade with Russia or allows Russians into their country. They should be a pariah state and every nation should cut diplomatic ties, oust them from the UN, disable all their internet connections with the world, never let them play in the Olympics again. Getting rid of Putin is just going to give them another dictator. They’ve proven they can’t handle democracy and never will.

No Russian dissidents or refugees? That’s harsh.

Started already:

The real tragedy is that it seems to be Ukrainians, not Russians, who are the exception in that scenario. That is to say, it seems the standard treatment for people coming to the US in search of refuge (and most especially if coming up from the south) is “F U, w8 in lin3.”

Not happy about it myself.

Let me also echo the statement of “boo fucking hoo” regarding affluent Russians stranded at beach resorts while their country steers the world toward World War III.

ummm. you do realize that unless they buy oil and gas from Russia, a hundred million people in Germany and Europe will freeze to death this winter?

Really? 100 million deaths seems a little bit high…

It’s not just Russians who are affected …

Personally I tend to have a lot more sympathy for innocent victims like this than for those who, collectively, have implicitly been supporting or at least tolerating Putin’s tyranny. Anyone who happened to see that (unsurprisingly) Trump-style rally that Putin held in Moscow recently, complete with hundreds of waving Russian flags and their attempt at rock music, while innocent Ukrainians are dying, would understand that many of them openly support the war and consider themselves patriots for doing so.

100,000,000 seems a little high to me. I think Europe needs to wean itself out from dependency on Russian oil. Maybe in the short term there will be sky high prices and some reversion back to dirtier forms of heating but if buying Russian oil supports genocide then it has to stop.

No one really knows the long term effects of these sanctions and how much they will disrupt energy markets.
