No worries - The leukemia/lymphoma specialist joined the practice just recently, and she was originally referred to the hematologist, who kept her case because he’d successfully treated Hairy Cell Leukemia before. She’s just atypical. (Insert wise-assed comment here.)
Would you call her Dr. Abby Normal?
I’m so sorry, Maus_Magill. My mom was telling me that whenever she got blood transfusions they made a huge difference. Please, please keep posting here and let us know what happens. Best wishes to the Mrs.
I can see why you’d wonder if Mrs. M.'s case must be bad if the hematologist who’s successfully treated her type of leukemia before referred her, but I’ve learned from experience that “atypical” is somewhat relative and not necessarily bad.
I had a general ophthalmologist who’d successfully treated cases of corneal graft rejection before. It’s not that common, so let’s say he’d treated a dozen cases. Mine kept recurring, and he’d had zero of those cases, so he sent me to a corneal specialist who had treated recurring graft rejections before, dozens of 'em. It was more atypical to the general ophthalmologist than to the specialist, and the specialist recognized that with the right treatment, the recurrent rejections didn’t mean a poor prognosis for my vision.
I know that’s very different from Mrs. M’s case and don’t mean to imply the stakes are the same. Also, “typical” is a wonderful word, and I know it’s much easier to be that patient (or the loving spouse of same). I’ll keep cheering you both on from here.
Afternoon all. Watched some more soccer from Europe on the tube and will leave in less than an hour to go referee 10U Boys (wish the field wasn’t on top of a large hill…). Big Bowl O’Sallit is on the menu for tonight.
Wizard, best wishes to the Missus, may things go well for her…and you.
talky, can’t remember ever using a weighted blanket, after your experience I think I’ll pass.
FCM, glad Roxy had fun…and as for epic poops, I remember back on '09…
OK, need to start preparing to act like an adult and go refereeing.
TMI, darlin’…
Supper was cheeseburgers, and crinkle fries done in the air fryer. I had sauteed mushrooms and onions plus swiss cheese on mine, FCD had 'murrican cheese, sweet onions and dill pickles. It was a quick and easy meal, and it’s all cleaned up and everything!
I ordered a new deep sink for the basement - the one we’re using was left by the previous owners and it’s in sad, sad shape. Since we’re getting the floor redone, I want a decent sink. Plus I ordered a new faucet - the old one is ick. And I ordered this for Roxy, because ya gotta spoil the grands, right? We had a couple of shop-type foam squares down there and she was having a ball taking them apart and reconnecting them. So for $20, she’ll have lots of colorful fun!! YAY!
For now, tho, chillage ensues.
My former boss’s files (six filing cabinet drawers) have had their important information entered into a spreadsheet, the contents have been shredded, and the folders have been put in recycling. I had three filing cabinet drawers of my own. I’ve taken out the non- or no-longer relevant stuff. I’ve scanned the rest and emailed them to me, so that I can save them into the appropriate electronic folders. I’ll hold onto the physical folders for a while (Why? I don’t know!), but the stack is only six inches high now.
Our receptionist’s last day is tomorrow. She’s planning on leaving before noon, and then start her retirement with a trek down to Oregon and then California. We said goodbye today, since I’m telecommuting tomorrow.
I think I’ll head out in about 10 minutes or so.
Was supposed to be first evening of golf league today, but alas, is raining muchly. I think I’ll order a pizza, since I don’t feel like cooking.
{{{shoe}}} It’s been one of those weeks here too.
Yay for the girls’ team metal mouse!
{{{Mr and Mrs magic}}}
It rained today, much like yesterday. I took some treats to the sitter’s for Nelson and his buddy Max to celebrate his birthday (and he got the skritches from you all <3 ) and we played about half an hour of fetch when I got home.
Still irking over and likely will for another week or so. I’m so tired of this sh!t! Time for KP, then chillage.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Evening all. Soccer has been refereed and despite it being dark and cloudy, no raindrops fell upon us. Kids did real well, it was a fun game to referee, had to laugh as there was a delay between the first and second periods as the kids waiting to play had erased the red coaches dry-erase board which had the lineups on it so they could draw pictures…kids.
Big bowl O’Sallit has been prepared and devoured and heading off to sleepy-bye land shortly.
All y’all take care, catch you Firday.
Up, cafffeinated and sheveled. Off to sort.
How does one do that?
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis < snerk > 69! < snerk > Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 86,and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Today I need to go pick up the 'scripts I forgot to go get from the pharmacy yestiddy. DUH! I shall also go over to the church house to deal with some church janitor Junior Warden stuff. Sup shall be majik intartoobz pizza and sallit.
Wizard hope all goes well for the wife with the referral. Sounds like a referral to a specialist who knows more about dealin’ with this, which is a good thing.
red glad Nelson had a good bday.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack, and bother, I suppose I shall purtify and don appropriate bein’ about the public attire. Life is just so hard!
Happy Firday Y’all!
We got some rain last night, and I guess a front went thru because it cooled down. We actually closed the house and turned on the a/c yesterday - FCD was uncomfortably sweaty. I was OK, but with the air on, I just grabbed a sweater and I was fine.
No clue what I’ll do with the RoxStar today, other than taking her to the playground by Daughter’s school when it’s time to pass her off. Then I’ll swing by Ace Hardware for some grass seed. Despite my best efforts, there are still several grassless patches in the yard, so I’ll give it one more try.
Before she gets here, tho, I’m going to unpack the last of FCD’s office boxes. He asked that I just put everything on shelves and he’ll arrange them as he goes along. So I’ll make my best guess as to what should go where, then I can clear the bins out of his office and he can get on the project that’s about to drop. (He’s got to design and analyze a heatsink for an antenna that’s going to be installed on the F/A-18!)
And I’m thinking after the kid has gone with her Mama, I’ll make a trash/recycling run. Or maybe I’ll just put the recycling in my trunk and drop it off on the way to the playground. Since there’s only one can of trash, I can wait till the other one is filled before taking that…
So, yeah, exciting day here.
Happy TGIF!!!
Good morning and happy Friday to all.
I am sending my very best thoughts to the Maus family.
I was thinking of going up to see the kids and grands this weekend, but since they just got home from Missouri, I think I’ll give them a chance to just relax over the weekend and we’ll head the following weekend.
Boy, yesterday was looooong. My neck and shoulders were killing me when I signed off. It’ll be the same today, but stuff needs doing and I’m trying like hell to clear my must-dos. I don’t really want to put in any hours this weekend, I will if I have to, but would rather not.
I think it’s supposed to start raining today. I didn’t check the weather report, but I believe it’s supposed to move in some time this morning.
I think today may be a four cupper (four cups of coffee).
Morning all. Friday paper has been rescued from the driveway and will be perused shortly. 62F this morning, but heading for 77F today and no threat of rain so we’ll be playing our make-up soccer game this afternoon. Then Sattiday and I’ll coach 2 games and referee a third (and maybe a 4th). Sunday will most certainly be a day of rest–except for having to mow the lawn…
All y’all have a good Firday now.
FCD is napping. I unpacked all I could in his office and what’s left he should be able to handle easily from his chair. I also just ordered yarn for the new babby’s afghan - daughter requested shades of green. And I ordered some more so I could get free shipping! Spent $30 to save $8 - I iz SMRT!!!
SIL should be on his way here soon with Roxy. I shall enjoy the last few moments of peace till then. And maybe I should yank something out of the freezer to thaw for supper. Or not. Who knows???
Good morning folks. I had a nice ride this morning. It was a little cool and there was a fog for the first four miles, but the sunrise was gorgeous. I got my ten miles in, a belly full of yogurt and coffee, a freshly showered and shaved body, and am ready to go.
The nice thing about getting a transfusion is that Mrs Magill is full of energy and more like her old self again. The bad thing is that I’m afraid it’s only a band-aid, and in two weeks she’ll have to lie down after getting exhausted by making some eggs.
I made some risotto in the Instant Pot last night. Yum. Now I have an open bottle of wine. Whatever shall I do with that?
I really appreciate you all putting up with my (what feels like to me) whining about my wife’s health issues. I’m afraid I may be coming across like I’ve got Münchhausen by proxie. I really, really do not want to show too much concern to her. When my sister had cancer a couple of years ago, the thing she hated most was the looks of pity she would get from our parents’ friends, so I’ve resolved not to do that to Mrs Magill.
On a getting back to normal note - our last member of our gaming group is getting the J&J vaccine today. Two weeks until in-person play!
Oh, no, no, no! You’re not whining! It’s more than O.K. to vent here to us - we’re all pulling for you both, you know.
It’s my Single Blessed Day Off today, and oh BOY do I have a to-do list! Of course, all I want to do is derp around with my plants and cats in the sunshine and relax a bit.
I shall strive to achieve a balance between productivity and slothage.
Okay, so far, I’ve put on pants. Not even real pants, though, just PJs.
I’ve put on shorts. Also, I’m on my fourth cuppa joe and a new pot is brewing. I’m filing all of those scans I sent to me yesterday.
I’m eating my second handful of animal crackers for breakfast, being too slothful (slothful~much more delicate word than lazy) to get up yet and totter off to the kitchen for a second cup of coffee. Rather than getting up to refill the kitties food bowls so a certain pushy Siamese will stop licking me, I’ll just kvetch about the licking to my roomie. It’s a system.
