Thinking of leaving.

You better not leave. :dubious:

Yeh.

WE KNOW WHERE YOU ARE.

Well, in general.

Anyway, where’s that wide-evil-grin, faintly menacing smilie when you need it?

Yeah, it sounds like you’ve just OD’ed on the boards, maybe. Happens to a lot of people. A discussion board can’t really be a “hobby” for too long; you just start to see the same stuff over and over again and get burnt out.

Obviously, people recognize you (including me), so it’s not a case of your not fitting in! Sounds like you just need to break for a while.

C’mon back, though!

This works on so many wonderful levels!

And for what it’s worth, I consider you a standard of the SDMB community, and greatly enjoy your posts.

And I’m a sucker for a guy with an accent.

At tiems, I feel the same way too. Right now, I feel as if my posts are at a low point; that they really don’t contribute anything to the community here, and that I’ll never be considered a “great Doper.”

Things cycle. One month, I’m riding the SDMB short bus*, the next, I’m frustrated because I feel I can contribute comething brilliant to every other thread.

Stick it out. You’re a better poster than me, I enjoy reading what you have to say, and I’d hate to see you go.

  • short bus - In the United States, retarded, “slow” and “special” children ride a very short yellow bus to their schools. When such students are “mainstreamed” and attending normal schools, they still ride a short bus, even though “normal” students who either walk, drive, or ride a longer yellow bus.

It sounds like you’re planning on sticking around, judging by your latest posts. But if ever the mood strikes you again where you feel invlined to leave, I’d recomend that you at least stick around until your membership runs out.

As you suggested, it may just be a phase and it would be a financial shame if you surrendered your Charter Member status and then later decided you wanted to re-subscribe but you’d have to pay the full rate (presumably).

And I, for one, have found several of your posts to be humorous, so your attempts are not in vain.

You’ll always have me. <sniff>

Stay!

We need Manly Isle people on the board!

Don’t you dare leave, Lobsang! You’re one of my favorite members of the SDMB. I make a point to read your posts because you’re funny, quick-witted and ask some really weird questions that make me say, “Hmmm…” A good combination, that. Oh, and I loves me a Scottish accent (yes, sometimes I read your posts with the accent  ).

Anyway, it would be a shame to lose you. Take a break if you must. Then when you come back you can tell us what you got up to.

Lobsang please don’t go
Lobsang please don’t go
Lobsang please don’t go down to New Orleans
You know we love you so
Lobsang please don’t go

<Presidents of the United States of America>

Lobsang alone among the Straight Dope hordes
totally motionless except for tapping on his keyboard
Thinks he ain’t bright enough anymore
But nobody’s calling him a moron on the Boards

Lobsang, Lobsang
He’s in my head
Lobsang, Lobsang, Lobsang
doesn’t post in red

</POTUSA>

Wow, that was f***ing horrible. ETF, make him a better song.

What board have you been reading? I seem to be posting in the same inane assortment of threads about blowjobs and missing corpses and sick cats I’ve always posted in.

Don’t leave; expand.

Join Una, Fathom, NADS, G’Dope, and my little place. You’ll feel at home because more than half (no cite, just how it appears) of the population of each board is a Doper, too.

But, a slightly different focus on how things look and work in this big internet world can add to your enjoyment.

The Dope wasn’t my first MB, but I now tend to gravitate towards the Dope Spawn even if I’m not Doping. It’s like I married into a family. Try it out.

Lobsang [and everyone else who feel they don’t contribute]:

Ooo eee, ooo ah ah ting tang
Walla walla, bing bang
Ooo eee, ooo ah ah ting tang
Walla walla, bing bang…
Ooo eee, ooo ah ah ting tang
Walla walla, bing bang
Ooo eee, ooo ah ah ting tang
Walla walla, bing bang.

I don’t know what to say. Except stay and post.

You can’t leave.

I read all your threads.

Every.one.of.them.

If you leave…I will resort to starting my own weaker threads that are not even a microcosmically as interesting as yours. I will end up killing this board within three months.

Like Godzilla stomping all over Tokyo.

My fire breathing coma inducing threads will reduce all to a stupor until there is nothing left of our virtual village but tumbleweeds and a lone cow mooing.

Then I will squash the cow.

It will be all.your.fault.
You bastard.*

But in a nice way.

:dubious:

I’m English. (forgiven  )

(specifically North-West, Lancashire. Probably have a noticeable twinge of the Lancashire accent left. It is distinct from the other North-West accents - Scouse and Manchunian. The scousers call it ‘woolyback’)
Ok I’ll stick around. But it may take some time for my head to deflate

Haha! Great!

I have nothing to add except a ‘me too’ (uh oh, maybe my originality is gone! I have nothing to contribute other than ‘me too’! I guess I’ll be leaving too… er, wait, that’s not how that was supposed to go!). You’re one of the mainstays (at least in my mind) here, and you’d definitely be missed. Glad to see you’ve decided to not abandon this place just yet.

Ahem… Yes, I was just informed by my real and true Scottish husband that even though the Isle of Man is close to Scotland, it’s not part of Scotland as I had assumed. Christ, I hate it when I do that!!!

<slinks back to the corner, red faced>

No need to be red faced. The Isle of Man is a small island in another country (from your pov). How many people can be expected to know it’s inhabitant’s accents??
FYI the manx accent sounds almost indistinguishable from the Liverpudlian accent (to me, anyway). I have noticed few scotish accents. The main accents seem to be Manx (with some real Scouse for all I know), English, and Irish.
P.S. From where I live Scotland is the only place you can see on a clear day. (England is too flat)

Also. The Isle of Man is not strictly ‘part’ of anywhere. It has it’s own independent govornment (the oldest in the world, as I keep being reminded - Namely Tynwald).

It has it’s own currency, but English, Irish, and Scotish currency is all legal tender here. (not vice-versa though)

Even euros are commonly accepted.
