My dear, kind Lobsang– Thank you for your understanding. See, when you’re stuck in the midwest, you don’t get much exposure to different accents outside the regular regional ones in the States.
Sound absolutely heavenly, if you ask me. Man, I told him I should have moved over there instead of vice versa. Alas, he was certain I would go crazy in such a small town as Gretna. Sigh.
Hey there are some fun posts on the SDMB. I just started one.
Well it might be a little late for Lobsang to join in but maybe in the morning he can add to this thread:
I hope I don’t anger the mods too much with the topic - but it’s fun.
With a title like “Topics you KNOW the mods will shut down fast” I know I’m running a risk - but I like to have fun.
Maybe it wil stay open long enough for Lobsang to post to it.
Hell, Lobsang, you can’t go! I love your mini (and maxi) rants in the Pit. I don’t even know what I’d do if I didn’t see your name below several threads each week. You’re one of my pet SDMB “staples”.
There’s no one here that isn’t smarter than me, but I stick around. True, I’ve never started a thread, and do more drive-bys than most Crip members, but hey…I never planned on being “productive” here! I just like to read and learn! YOU are one of those people I read and learn from, whether you realize it or not.
If you feel you need a break, by all means, take it. But definitely come back. You are one Charter Member I’d rather not do without, if it’s all the same to you.
I hope you will reconsider. I enjoy reading your posts. Plus, for some reason my brain shorts out every time I read “Isle of Man” under your name and I think of Easter Island instead and picture you sitting amongst the giant stone heads of Easter Island happily typing away on your laptop.
Stupid, yes, but it makes me laugh. Or at least giggle for about 2 seconds until the rational side of my brain kicks in and informs me that I’m an idiot.
It occurs to me now that I do derrive fun from this place. It’s fun to rattle off a few philosophical (or anecdotal) threads before bed and then check the replies the next day.
My boredem with the place mentioned in the op is probably due to having too much spare time to browse it at work. It is an amazing place but by browsing it all day every (work) day I am asking too much of it.
I have already said this in the thread but I’ll say it again - I’ll stick around. I get alot here by asking for information so I shouldn’t feel pointless by not being able to provide information.
[sub]P.S. This is one of those times when an edit feature would be useful (I’d add “(edit: not leaving)” to the title)[/sub]
Lobsang
Thanks for visiting the thread I started. See? This board has a WIDE variety of topics with an equally diverse membership.
That quote you posted about the duck - it is from “In the Line of Fire” with Clint Eastwood and it is spoken by John Malkovich. Nicely-placed relevant quote in your reply.
I’m glad you’re going to stay; I pretty much always click on your threads (although I may not always reply). You’re one of the first people I argued with on here.
Sorry for bumping this thread but I wanted to let you know I appreciate you.
I, for one, make a point of reading your posts, Lobsang. Take a break if you need one, but don’t heave off permanent, like. We need more posters like you.
