It happens on an almost daily basis. I just copy and paste any long posts.
It’s still a pain in the ass, but I like this board to deal with it the only possible way there is to deal with it, by leaving.

Stickies are meant to stop the same sort of post from happening over and over as this topic inevitably does as well as providing information about the board are they not?

She said nothing about just putting up with “crappy, sub-standard service.” You read into her words what you wanted to read, rather then what’s, yanno, actually there. Thus, difficulties in comprehending what you read. It’s really pretty simple, although I can draw you a picture if you’d prefer.

And I have to wonder, just to the room at large, if there’s anyone who honestly thinks that the employees and volunteers here don’t realize when the board times out? Seeing as how all the mods and most admins have to log in, read, and post on a regular basis, I’m pretty sure they’re among the first to notice problems.
I’m not saying Pitting board performance is unwarranted. I’m all for it. TPTB should know how upset y’all are about it. But they already know it’s a problem.

Except for the rare times when the board crashes so bad that Jerry actual takes it down for repair, I gotta say I’m not having the problems you all describe. If it is slow for some, I see it as a good thing. Keeps away some of the impatient whiners. Imagine how many more there would be if this was always zippy.
Exactly. Implying that getting pissed off or complaining about it doesn’t do any good. (which I have to agree, it doesn’t). But if you don’t complain about the crappy service, but instead “go do something else”, you’ll never get better service.

This is ridiculous. The boards didn’t work, the front page didn’t work, and every. single. other. web site. I visited during that time popped right up.
“but but but the problem could be between you and our server.” No, it’s between the keyboard and the ass of the person sitting in the chair in front of it, who’s supposed to be responsible for keeping the place running.

Scheduled timeouts are one thing, but periodic unexplained blackouts are another thing entirely.
We’re paying now, the board should react accordingly (within reason).
I haven’t been able to post and/or view the Dope for the past 50 minutes. I was playing videogames from 3 hours before that time. I’m so mystified that I started a thread in ATMB about it.
…and, we’re back! I have just returned to these boards after a 3 1/2 hour-long period where the boards have consistently been timed out. It started for me at about 8:11 CST and I finally logged back at about 1:50. I haven’t been sitting here the whole time staring at the screen, mind you. After about a half hour surfing other sites, I said, “Fudge it!”, made some dinner, watched “Eureka”, watched “Damages”, came back to the computer, surfed about another half hour, before making back to here. Yes, it is a pain in the ass. It’s these kinds of outages that make me seriously reconsider whether to renew at the end of my year.
And yes, every other site I went to, including the crappiest free sites loaded up for me with no problems…and I’m on dial-up!
I hate bitching about the boards, I really do. Here’s my evidence that I’m usually a bigger voice of praising the board and the administration.
But this is getting bad, so I just wanted to add my voice to the call that something needs to be fixed.
There are a lot of people that come here that never step foot in the Pit, even more so in regards to ATMB. IMHO is the place for polls, and I think a tastefully stated poll there, would accurately represent the feelings of our populace.

I never get timed out. Ah, the joys of being the only Doper in my time zone. (Finland might be in my time zone, actually…I think there are some Finnish Dopers.) One of the benefits of living in BFE.
