This day in History - MMP

Tonight TVMan and I watched a KISS concert from 1996. It was interesting, actually. And I was totally grossed out by the cutout thigh areas in Gene Simmons’ pants. Ew.

I’m home and going to bed soon. We’ve only got two lunches tomorrow and I’m welcoming a bit of a breather. My lunch delivery is only about 7 minutes from home and then it will be a well-deserved nap.

Squeeeee! My first YouTube Video!

Home and tired. More work tomorrow.

Pay attention to me!

Fox News is reporting on some US Energy Savings scam going on - basically, they lock you into paying $1.16 per therm for several years, claiming that in the long run this saves you money because the price of gas is continually rising. Apparently a lot of people have signed up and then when they find that their gas bills are actually going up, they try to cancel - only to discover there’s something like a $600 fee.

I found this interesting because I almost fell for it myself - they came by our neighborhood and the woman (who was a smooth talker) made it sound like it really would be cheaper in the long run, but after I signed up I took the time to actually look at their fees and compare it to my gas bill, and it seemed like a bad deal to me - their own material showed that even when gas fees are at their highest, they’ve never been $1.16 per therm. So I called and cancelled within three days (no fee). I told them I wasn’t even sure I’d be living in Illinois next year (which is true) and they tried to convince me that if I moved I’d be able to cancel without a fee, but that was bullshit - there was nothing like that in the contract.

The interesting thing is that anyone who takes the time to read all the paperwork they give you can discover for themselves that the whole thing is more or less a scam (unless gas prices shoot up exponentially within the next few years). It’s amazing what people will sign without even taking the time to read what the hell they’re agreeing to.

Oh yeah, I think Inept College (the school I’ve been working at since last summer, not the new school) is going to go back on their offer of sponsoring a visa for me. I did have a suspicion this might happen, since the president agreed to it without talking to the administrator that handles this kind of stuff. For some reason the administrator in question doesn’t like me. Or maybe it’s just that he doesn’t want to have to go through the endless paperwork that it will entail. Or maybe he begrudges me the $600 fee. But seriously, for $600 they can lock me into a three-year contract - I won’t be able to break it, unless I no longer want to stay in the US (or unless I find another visa sponsor). They don’t even have to hire me full-time. And at the risk of blowing my own horn, I am one of the best teachers they have right now - most of their teachers don’t give two cents about the students. They’re constantly dealing with teachers who disappear in the middle of the semester, leaving them high and dry. I have never missed a day of work and I put way more into these classes than what they’re paying me for. ARGH.

It’s extremely frustrating. I wish there were a way to reclaim my green card. I mean, I was a minor when my parents moved back to Korea - it’s not like I WANTED to give up my permanent resident status. I’ve been trying to find out if there’s some kind of exemption for people in my situation (ie, forced to give up their green card because of their status as a minor) but I doubt it.

Morning all. HRH is on a rampage since yesterday - full o’ beans and there’s just no stopping her (except for sleeping 12 hours straight through at night, thank OG!)! No time to talk - ciao!

Awake. Why?

That’s 'cos we own the place! Luminus, when I was looking for somewhere to rent (and take this little bundle of fluff with me, I had a lot of trouble finding anywhere that would allow it. After a few unsuccessful discussions with letting agents, I found one who decided that cats weren’t actually “pets”. Their definition of a pet was something that needed constant attention, made a lot of noise, was potentially messy and destructive, and shouldn’t be left along all day in the property. As far as they were concerned, that meant dogs and not cats. They’d obviously never met Orly.

A spider bit your toe.

Bad case of insomnia. Got into a fight with Complicated Roommate. Hate this.

When can my life go back to some semblance of normalcy? Can it be soon?

I had a real friggin’ busy night at work.

OR’s, traumas, bleeders, and even some kids.

I did a couple of these on the fly, so their not my finest work, but I didn’t want to disappoint you day-walkers with an empty promise of no lolcatizing.

Good morning!

Marnin’. Nice work, beebs!

Good job, beebs! Very nice lolcatting.

I’m awake a little bit early this morning because a certain muscle in my right shoulder has decided to start it’s spasming routine. Thanks to the stress that has come my way this week, I can barely move and it hurts a little bit to breathe. Hopefully I’ll be able to make it to work.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ here. Purtification for work to commence soon. Other than that I got nuttin’.

Good job beebs. I think I like taxicat’s the best. Made me laugh out loud (I should say lol just to be topical but I didn’t. Get over it.).

Later Y’all!

Morning everyone - had a game of squash and won one game, lost three. Ah well, improvement on the last time I played that guy.

About to sit down and do some heavy duty catch-up TV as I have three shows to watch. With some soup - yum!

Scary - to be honest I haven’t investigated too deeply whether I can have a cat or not, I just saw the clause and assumed (but then at the time wasn’t fussed about having a cat so didn’t really care). I’m now thinking I would like one but even then my flat isn’t that big so not entirely sure I could accommodate one. Think I’ll just vicariously enjoy all your kittehs from pics and stories.

For now.

When the pull of the purr becomes too much, you could always consider adopting an older cat, they’re often happy to spend their days sleeping in whatever they decide is the warmest place in your home.

Happy Firday everyone!

Up and caffeinating here, getting ready to head out to work. Should be kinda quiet at work today; several co-workers work from home on Fridays (including the boss! :)). This week, we found out that one co-worker got another job at another govt. agency, and the new co-worker who was scheduled to start on 2/18 declined the offer because they got a better one from somewhere else. I think my boss was rather glad that he’d be working from home today, unfortunately. :frowning: One good thing, though: I got two extra feet of space in my cubicle! They had to reconfigure the cube behind me and apparently it was “larger” than normal size, so that’s how I got two extra feet of space. Now I just gotta find something to fill that space up … (hah, like that’s a problem for me!!).

Well, I’m running late today, so again happy Firday all. Woo hoo!

It’s official. I am NOT going to work. My dad is going to go for me. Putting my coat on brought me to tears and I’m not sure that I would have been able to drive since my car is a 5 speed and the spasm is on the rh side. :frowning:

I want my hair up in a high ponytail, but I can’t lift my arm that far.

Up and off to work. If I get Nelly a cat, I’m naming it George.

Great LOLcats, beebs. SOON is the best.

mornin’ all!
